Thanks so much for all your comments - we both really appreciate them, and we're now planning an album of musical fragments like this too. I'm happy to see how you interpret it - to me, this is a really bittersweet piece. Like when you've lost something, and you're sad that it's gone, but you're grateful that you experienced it. I played it a lot of times this year to people who were very old, some actually dying, and they felt that same bittersweetness too.
