My Mainecoon Jake looks exactly like yours, with the same white markings. He is such a sweet and gentle cat with me, but with the other cats in my house is the MASTER LION. He will tolerate my new little kitties, but the older ones KNOW not to even try to mess with him. He'll give them one swat of his mighty paw and they KNOW to back off. He is so gentle when he delicately takes a treat from my hand, while the others just grab them. He's the best ever!
I have a Big Red Maine Coon named Petey and he is by far the coolest cat in the world, as OP said he is NOT a lap cat, and he will only abide a few seconds of picking him up and squeezing his fat body with bro hugs.....
but he is always following me and playing with me, refuses to be nice to my dogs(which he rules with an iron fist despite being out weighed by both dogs.

Yep, thats a Maine Coon. I had one for 6 yrs, drove cross country with him, and even though he went deaf, he was still the coolest cat, or pet for that matter that I ever owned. And then...he just vanished about a year ago. Dont know if someone stole him or if coyotes got him.
I had two western forest cats (brothers) and man were they smart. They used to open the freezer and sleep inside of it during the summer and in the catch tray underneath the fridge during the summer. They could open kitchen drawers, close them, and sleep in them. We lost one at my dads house one time from that trickery. They just got to big for me to take care. They were adopted by a retiree.
I am getting my two Coon boys next weekend, can't wait to play with them, only had Persians before, never Maine Coon breed, they seem so much more interactive, watching this vid made me worried, I now realize I am not prepared for them at all, right after this, I will rush to a pet store and request 5 kilograms of cat toys, including board games, if they have them :)
I have a 14 year old maine coon. She's a bit eccentric; when she was younger, she used to love to ride in the car unlike most cats; in fact, she would dig her nails in when I tried to get her out. I must admit, they are pretty smart; she will run and fetch like a dog and listens to voice commands
i also think they r hypo-alergenic, despite being such long furred cats, i cant remember where i heard this but im pretty sure they are, if i had a cat itd be a coon, + they r real big if u can tell from the vid, now that i think about it its either the maine coon or the Russian blue, that is the alergy free cat.... hmm, cant remember. o well itll come to me. the reason i say all this is bcuz im asthmatic and cant hav a cat under normal circumstances -_-
@BasariosRock Sorry, there is no such thing as a hypo-allergenic cat. Allergic reactions are caused by the FeLV proteins in cats' skin and saliva. Some cats like the Siberian make less of those proteins so they maybe a better choice for people with allergies. It's got nothing to do with their hair lenghts.

It's very unusual to find a Maine coon kitten in nyc so i guess it was destiny. If you want to get one be ready to leave this cat alone, they are not lap cats at all but they will follow you from room to room. He loves to eat with me always. He is one smart kitty. @nilia75 actually Maine Coon's tend to be much more affectionate than other cats. yours may be different from being a stray but generally they're very loving cats that want attention all the time.

I believe Maine Coons are the ticket for those who want a more interactive cat, as they are not aloof like many other cats, and really love to interact and communicate with you! i miss my kira, we got him and his sister jackie from a lady who was giving away free kittens then later on we found a picture of a cat that look identical to kira on a main coon website, and we realized he was at least pat main coon (explained why he was so big and fuzzy)

Buying from breeders means hundreds of thousands of shelter animals are put to sleep every year.
If your looking for a particular breed, nearly half of the dogs and cats in shelters are pure breed so finding a maine coon wont be too hard.
As a bonus it will be cheaper and you'll save a life :D

the breed is known for it, my b/f has one and his fur is wonderfully soft! You want to snuggle up and go to sleep with him ( unfortunately he's a bit of a curmudgeon)

How cute!! Maine Coons are known for their dexterity and yours is obviously no exception. :)
My Maine Coon, Neo, has that dexterous trait too and often eats his food with his paws.

they are very curious.. everything becomes a toy to them. I grew up with dogs but am a sworn maine coon convert.. mine was a rescue, hard to believe people get rid of them..

i miss my kira, we got him and his sister jackie from a lady who was giving away free kittens then later on we found a picture of a cat that look identical to kira on a main coon website, and we realized he was at least pat main coon (explained why he was so big and fuzzy)

i loooove maine coons!!! i have a 3 year old black and white one and he is soooooo smart! the really cute thing is he waits in the bathroom while i get a shower and plays with the things on my brothers and my counter and then when i open the door when im done, he waits by the steps for me to go down stairs. best kittys evaaaa!

my girl does the same thing only with whatever objects are on the table. Ill have my keys, pens, etc. on the table... she will go up and knock em off just to watch them fall and make noise!

Loved this video. I search YT for vids that show charming cat behavior- kitty is totally into the game, sitting politely, waiting for the next move. And, it's a unique video- only one I've found of cat playing chinese checkers, and cat really is "playing".

This cat seems well trained----- to attack all of the "black ones" without disturbing the "white ones". Intresting. Does this cat have any black friends? Or are they all "bad luck"? I'm just pondering, don't mind me.

The kitty loves those little balls. Just goes to show that you can buy all those junky toys in the store and they won't play with them.
I dragged a dead branch in from the yard and put it on the floor. It's my Maine Coons favorite thing to play with.
