I do agree that sometimes people evaluate and magnify situations to the extent that seems unnecessary but its very important to always take other people's feelings into consideration.
Some people are more sensitive than others due to reasons that are both biological and psychological; so its harder for some people to control there emotions. As we know, these cartoons were created during a time period were racism was very social acceptable and many people in the past have fought hard to get others to stop thinking these negative stereotypical thoughts.
I don't think that is very fair to disregard the efforts made to end these prejudice claims by simply claiming that its the responsibility of the person to control his/her emotions. It's difficult to think this is actually harmful. Nevertheless, you have to consider that stereotypes do shape the way we see each other. At this level it might be even naive, but try to think of large scale discrimination based on false conceptions of the Other and you're going the right way. Being a mexican I find it quite stupid to think my country looks like the one on Speedy Gonzalez, but I can see how this misconception is carried on, starting at this silly and seemingly unharmful place.

@Goltermann87 the monkeys are suppose to represent African Americans beacuse many people at this time thought of African Americans as monkeys. The King monkey wants to be a human because humans have civil rights unlike animals. This is a reference to how African Americans didnt have rights when they were slaves. When he says " i wanna be like you" he means he wants to have rights.

@jake88ize thats still a little far fetched. i think ur interpretation is a little sought for, as i dont believe the Monkey equals Negro terminology. King Louie just want to be as intelligent as a human being (which includes knowing how to fire a gun and by that reason being the über-race). The issue is not between human races, but between people and animals.

The singer is proposing that the first native american was white and that as soon as he kissed a girl he blushed and his skin permanately remained that color. When it gets to the line " and we all been blushing since" he's referencing that his new color trait was passed down to the rest of the Native Americans.

I understand completely what #6 meant, the Japanese from late twenties until the end of WWII where invading different countries and islands and expanding their empire, and they needed a lot of oil (gasoline) to drive their war machine (tanks, ships and planes) hence the gag they used in that cartoon, so much so that when the US cut their oil export to Japan, the Japanese began plans to, basically bomb Pearl Harbor

The crows were voice acted by the Hall Johnson choir, black performers who were allowed to put their own style to the crows, and the housekeeper who always has to chase and throw Jasper(Tom) out was made after her time. People talked like that.
The only one I can say that seemed genuinely racist was the asians.
The rest are just a self-created stereotype of their own.
But I still found it funny.
