My grandfather(pappy) flew the p-38 in WWII, south pacific, he said it was a wonderful aircraft to fly but was vary unforgiving. He was later put in a p-51. He said it felt like he was cheating on his wife(the p-38), the “51” was his mistress. My grandmother always gave him “the look” when he said that. Truly a great plane!
