All of those things involve animal products and by-products. It's impossible to be truly vegan, so any vegan who says he or she is one is immediately a hypocrite.
Hypocrisy stems from accidental ignorance more often than not, and that's fine. It's what we do when we discover it about ourselves that matters.
@Shukochan it's about minimizing harm, not being perfect. trying one's best to be mindful of the impact on animals and the environment is not hypocrisy. and maybe some people prefer not to eat animal products for personal reasons. you shouldn't feel threatened or offended by that.
I rather think eating meat is a first world luxury. Have you ever thought about that animals need to be fed before killing them? And did you know that you could feed the almost 1 billion starving people in the world by just giving them the soja you would otherwise give to the animals? So if you eat meat, you savour the flavour of murder of both animals and humans. Bon appétit!
lol @ defensive meat eaters. why do vegetarians threaten you so much? people can make whatever dietary choices they want. you're free to eat meat, and vegetarians are free to abstain from eating meat. get over it.
@o0ShashiSharma0o It's mostly because vegans are obnoxious, insufferable retards who prattle on about how they're more ethical and righteous than everyone else because they don't consume the product of animals.
@s0beit making big sweeping statements about any group of people does not reflect well on your argument. no vegan i have ever met has been anything but a humble and thoughtful person. i'm sorry if you have had a bad experience with someone who is a vegan but you really can't claim that that reflects on all vegans. and i have to say, you are the one who is coming across as obnoxious right now. peace.
humans are not herbivores. if you're truly concerned about saving animals and think starving yourself of a bacon will save all the cows in the world, maybe you should reconsider your life
if you're going to be vegetarian, or vegan, don't make "pretend meat," just stick to salads and steamed veggies and the like. any attempt at making non-animal meat replacement just ends up ruining what its supposed to be. its not worth the effort.
When I saw this, I just laughed and said Oh that gosh darn Ron Swanson at it again! I did not however, explore the fascinating world of how vegetarianism is a first world luxury, and from this I get that I am probably an idiot. Maybe I'll go ride a bike or something.
Hey guys and girls. I'm a poet from Chicago. I have started a YouTube Channel to help get my work out there. Please take 5 minutes out of your day to check my stuff out. Like. Subscribe. Tweet. I update on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Your support is greatly appreciated!
Poor people in developing countries don't have the luxury to buy vegan fake-meat, and have to supplement their diet in any way they can. Meat, fish, milk, etc are important sources of protein and other nutrients for them.
LOL! "Gimmie some 'bacon'. *Throws in trash.* "Gimmie some more." *Again in trash.* And I loled when April and him gave each other that bonding look:P
You really believe that? Eating thick cuts of steak and boneless chicken breasts are first world luxuries. Most developing nations have rather elementary diets consisting of rice, corn and various grains.
Reread my post. I am talking about Veganism, which is not eating meat or animal products. Virtually all people in poor and developing nations rely on fish, meat, or milk as their main or important supplemental source of protein. The grains you mentioned do not provide nearly enough protein and other nutrients.
Poor people don't have the luxury to buy vegan fake-meat, and have to supplement their diet in any way they can.
@Intranetusa Thank you! I want to be vegan or at least try it, but I'm a poor college student that barely has enough money to eat and will probably get screwed from student loan debts.
In my junior year, my diet consisted of potatoes, whole wheat bread, broccoli, eggs, chicken, and whatever was on sale at my local grocery store. If there is a local "East Asian" supermarket in your area (the really big chain markets, not the small ones), they usually have meat, vegetables, and fruits that are significantly cheaper than American supermarkets. Good luck!
@Intranetusa I've read the comments and I still think what you said doesn't make sense. I come from a third world country and I know lots of vegans who are poor. Just because you are a vegan it doesn't mean you must buy veggie bacon or veggie sausages or whatever, neither you have to eat at fancy organic raw vegan cafés. There are hundreds of other foods that are cheap and nutritious available.
And you are also wrong about meat products being the only source of protein. Very wrong.
They are not vegans. They are people who are vegetarians by religion or people who simply can't afford meat, milk, etc. The definition of vegan is a person who avoids ALL animal products by CHOICE... People in poor 3rd world country do not deliberately choose to avoid important sources of nutrition.
Never once did I say meat, milk, fish, etc are the only sources of protein. If you bothered to read my comment, I said they are important SUPPLEMENTAL sources of protein.
@Intranetusa You still don't get it. I am saying that I KNOW these people, so I can say with no doubt they are vegans (and not for religious reasons). And I am telling you they eat like that by their own choice. Of course I cannot talk about everyone in all third world countries, but I can certainly say that I know vegans who are poor, therefore your comment was based only on generalization. It's your opinion, it doesn't mean it should be true just because you believe in it.
@NoHate24 Posting from my main account now, I understand my metaphor was a bit extreme but you see my point. Just because it isn't possible in the third world doesn't make it a luxury for the first world.
@Intranetusa Funny you should say that, lentils alone are 26% protein by mass. Huge swathes of Africa and Asia have diets that are entirely vegan and have been so for millennia. Hardly a first world luxury.
"Proteins by mass" is hardly a good way to determine what is a healthy diet and not. All living cells have proteins, you might as well tell people only to eat cucumbers. Human proteins are made up of 20 different amino acids, and it can be hard not to be malnurished if you're not eating meat. These 'vegans' in Africa and Asia are vastly malnurished, and hardly vegan by choice. You should learn a bit about the subject before you tell people what to eat to be healthy.
@Intranetusa it could be argued that it is a first world moral obligation. If we have the means to get the nutrition we need without killing animals, we should. The only reason we do is for enjoyment or taste. To eat a living thing solely for taste is wrong.
@lenny108 I don't eat meat, but this is friggin hilarious. I made it a personal choice for me not to eat meat but I don't care what other people want to eat
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Problem with Ron is that he is stuck on personal interest trap. Ron says he wants real meat from a slaughtered animal but he cant figure what happens to this planet when 7 bn people want the same. It requires to slaughter billions of animals each year and turn this planet into hell. Everywhere animal factories, industrial livestock farming, epizootic diseases, meat full with antibiotic resistance bacteria, groundwater polluted with antibiotics, etc.etc. Pretty much stoneage type of thinking.
@lenny108 what the hell are you talking about? The real problem is that we have to waste valuable resources keeping people like you alive. Sometimes I wish we could enact natural selection on humans.
People have the right to live how they want and eat what they want. Also I'm pretty sure that the vegetative food industry leads to excessive agriculture which leads to the destruction of topsoil, pesticides in our food, and monoculture which in turn leads to disease as well as famine so it's probably as bad as the meat industry. Ron's not a real person so you should relax a bit. It's a show and Ron was designed to be opinionated, sarcastic, and obnoxious.
@DixieDregs22 No doubt about it, if it feels good do what you like and see what happens! I just mentioned that there are 7 bn people on this planet who might do the same as you. Animals require species-appropriate keeping and mostly this is what makes animals sick, locked up in a tiny cage. Plants have no problem with this, they stay at one place.
This reminds me of the Wright Brand Bacon they were sampling at a fishing expo I attended. I kept going back for more, except instead of throwing it out I ate it because it was real bacon.
Those saying we are carnivore or herbivore are both wrong. Actually we are omnivore, like bears, we have the dentition to eat meat and veggies, and digestive tracks are for that too.
Did anyone else notice? At first there is nothing by the table...as soon as the guy says "100% meatless"...BAM...Ron Swanson makes a garbage can magically appear!
" Hey mark.. I'm in you O.S lab.. Great job with facebook man.. Ya know i could've sworn he was looking at you when he said the next bill gates could be in this room.. I showed up late I don't even know who the speaker was" .. Does that bacon sample guy look familiar ?

@billywms Proven? You have the research? How about eating the way our biology is designed to eat: meat, fish, poultry, eggs, vegetables and lots of them, seasonal fruit, nuts, and plenty of healthy fats?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@billywms First of all it is healthy to eat meat. Secondly, you should accept what you are, a carnivore. Humans are naturally cruel and vicious. Thirdly it's a pansy ass way of living and Ron Swanson would be ashamed of you.
@LobsterPotsticker I don't know if he's completely a parody. By that standard Leslie would be a parody too since her liberal beliefs are made fun of too. Both Ron and Leslie have aspects that parody someone with their viewpoints (libertarian and liberal) but at the end they're both supposed to be admirable characters.
@littlefurballs GROSS!! You eat that crap?! This is what happens when that guy stopped giving Ron & April the vegan bacon samples, poor unfortunate people had a chance to eat it. I am truly sorry that Ron couldn't save you from that vegan bacon :(
I am a proud meat eater and avid hunter. I love a great big juicy steak and generally speaking, if there is not meat on the table for dinner I am usually uninterested. All the meat I eat has a chance to run its life, unlike the countless trillions of plants innocently slaughtered in this country every year in the name of "saving the animals". When is someone going to take up their cause? This summer, I was admiring the beauty of broccoli in my garden; it was cut down before it ever had a chance.
I like how legitimate political and economic issues are commonly disregarded in today's conversations, but when anyone mentions diet, everyone starts foaming at the mouth.
What's with all the arguing about veganism/vegetarianism vs. eating meat in the comments? People have the right to choose what they will and will not consume, there is no point in judging one another's lifestyles. (And BTW - I'm vegan and think this scene is hilarious.)
I think it's funny that some vegans claim that humans are suppose to be vegans, not carnivores... And then they eat veggie-STEAKS, veggie-BACON and soy-SAUSAGES.
Brb, i'm gonna go grab some carrots shaped steaks...
@gombie You could make a much better argument against veganism if you did some research, them pressing their food into meat shapes and meat flavors to get meat eaters to give their lifestyle a chance is just good marketing, it doesn't really make a case for meat eating. You could easily make better arguments for meat eating though.
Yeah well, many vegans say they protest the food industry and the mistreatment of animals. And when they're offered ecological meat that's ethically produced, they still won't eat it.
@gombie I still don't think you can "produce meat ethically" but I agree hunting is a much more honest approach to it assuming you eat your kills. The meat industry is americas dirty and disease ridden system for avoiding the guilt of eating other animals.
@AMpufnstuf But it's no different with the farming industry as farms destroy habitats, have historically caused intentional and unintentional introduction of destructive species into the ecosystem, and so forth. Small true organic farming simply cannot sustain the world's growing population and so takes up even more land.
Where can I get one of these magic garbage cans that only exists when I want to throw something away?

i like how ron swanson's character being a PARODY goes completely over some peoples heads
LobsterPotsticker 3 months ago
@LobsterPotsticker I don't know if he's completely a parody. By that standard Leslie would be a parody too since her liberal beliefs are made fun of too. Both Ron and Leslie have aspects that parody someone with their viewpoints (libertarian and liberal) but at the end they're both supposed to be admirable characters.
crazysouthie 3 months ago
@crazysouthie well of course Leslie is a parody
i wouldn't consider her a total lib though. she seems to try to not have a stance on issues
like gay penguins or anything controversial
and her wall has a lot of opposing people like michel bachman, hillary clintin, palin, etc

Seriously, children. Grow the fuck up.

Brb, i'm gonna go grab some carrots shaped steaks...
gombie 4 months ago
@gombie You could make a much better argument against veganism if you did some research, them pressing their food into meat shapes and meat flavors to get meat eaters to give their lifestyle a chance is just good marketing, it doesn't really make a case for meat eating. You could easily make better arguments for meat eating though.
AMpufnstuf 4 months ago
@AMpufnstuf
Yeah well, many vegans say they protest the food industry and the mistreatment of animals. And when they're offered ecological meat that's ethically produced, they still won't eat it.
gombie 4 months ago
@gombie How do you ethically produce meat?
AMpufnstuf 4 months ago
@AMpufnstuf
Well let's see.. By not abusing the animals, by not keeping them in tiny boxes and so on.
Let them live on farms and stuff like that.
By the way, why do vegans complain about hunting? Isn't that basicly more ethical and natural than meat industry's meat?
gombie 4 months ago
@gombie I still don't think you can "produce meat ethically" but I agree hunting is a much more honest approach to it assuming you eat your kills. The meat industry is americas dirty and disease ridden system for avoiding the guilt of eating other animals.
AMpufnstuf 4 months ago
@AMpufnstuf But it's no different with the farming industry as farms destroy habitats, have historically caused intentional and unintentional introduction of destructive species into the ecosystem, and so forth. Small true organic farming simply cannot sustain the world's growing population and so takes up even more land.

The hell is vegan bacon? A quote from Wikipedias bacon article:
"Bacon is a cured meat prepared from a pig." Thusly, if it does not contain meat, it cannot be bacon.
Tell this to every idiot trying to even think of making vegetarian bacon.
