Once you get a lot of practice dialing in a 4-jaw chuck it gets really easy. If you want a little bit more of a challenge, try dialing in a square or rectangular piece in it. Or something a little bit harder is dialing it something off-center.
@bigeve Thank you, what a lovely beginning to your workshop, I am just in the process of moving mine and my dear wife has said I can go bigger, so this time a bench for my daughter to paint and make messy things on can go in one section. She drilled her first holes when she was two and enjoyed it. she is now four.
I am working on a simple steam and gas engined locomotive for the complete beginner, quite a challenge.
"like trying to machine kryptonite" lol
get some 303, much easier to cut

Single acting is when the piston only is pressurised on one side, double=pressure on both sides. It has nothing to do with the crankpossition

See if your camera has a "Macro" function. Very useful for zooming in to show full detail in its glory...

Bill, get yourself another chuck key ( or make one ), it makes adjusting that chuck SO much easier.

and your first steam engine that you showed us will move MUCH more freely with steam, as it also acts as a lubricant!
