I am going to be completely honest with everyone who appreciates TRUE gaming.
I to would prefer old graphics, But the thing is, HD graphics has messed me up, as hard as I try, I can never get attached to these games as I did when I was younger, I can play it and be like "FUCK YES MY CHILDHOOD" But It's not the same, I see all the "Flaws" and it really bugs me why did people have to screw me up :/
I need to know if anyone has played the Iphone version of this game from the app store. I'm considering getting it and I need to know how it controls.

Not really a fan of this sort of RPG, but I will play this sort of game if I find the story appealing enough, I'm just more of a fan of Fallout 3 and Skyrim, not Chrono Trigger and FFvii, that's probably because I grew up with an Xbox, and not a SNES

@MetalGearSolidNick1 obviously chrono trigger i have played dq 9 and it is nothing special. if you are willing to get a great dq game get dq 7 or 8 if you don't have them already
If you've played FF4 before, they basically took the ATB system (active time battle system) and revamped it for this game. Basically, each characters speed stat determines how fast the ATB meter fills. Once it's full, a character can act.
@CaptainKaze i always hated that active time battle system used in some RPGs... it just rushes me, and that stresses me out, makes me nervous, unable to think straight, and takes all the fun out of the game.
Even making a retro game like these ones is SO difficult, yeesh ,especially for how limited the graphics are and making them look good enough is the real challenge.

Actually,most of you guys are wrong.This game isn't about graphics (i didn't try it yet though),its about story and the feeling of the "old" rpgmaker games,which are still produced even nowadays.There are games where graphics do matter (i have an x360 too),but this isn't one of them.The stories of nowadays games are usually crappy,so you should try one of these games on for size.Thats all i wanted to tell ya.

Sorry to point it out but graphics and gameplay are everything nowdays. This game is old and outdated, like ive said in previous comments they could have easily updated the graphics for this game on the DS like the Final Fantasy titles, but no they were to lazy and decided to keep the orignal lame snes graphics. That's the soul reason why i'd never play this again.

@L337Zealot Gameplay alone makes the game great. TF2 and Super Smash Bros don't really have any story, and they're absolutely incredible games. It really does just boil down to gameplay, with story and graphics, etc, being bonuses.

I'm only on disc 2 and atm you can't select your character in battle. It's a good idea as people who are new to RPG won't be confused. Whats so different from the battle system in FF13 to this? or yeah wait in this game you get to press the left,right,up and down buttons.

and you can't just say "it gets better later", it's 35 goddamn hours if points a to point b, ONE CHAPTER of, you know. actually playing like a normal jrpg except with no towns or anything. and then it goes back to going from point a to point b. in those first 35 hours of linearity i could have completed another, much better jrpg.

You can actually tell from the copyright info that this is the SNES version of the game. I agree the DS version could have been slightly better done, but at least it wasn't as bad as the PSX version. You didn't have to wait 2 seconds every time a battle started, etc.

I played this game So long ago.....Since I had a Super nintendo emulator for the comp I decided to Dl it.....It's actually kind of fun to play....Takes a while to beat tough lol.
@AttackOfTheInterwebs The guy that designed the battle transitions in Chrono Trigger went on to design the battle system in Final Fantasy XII. So they were both made by the same guy. :-)
neither were based on the other, they just have the same character designer/author. Dragon Quest also has the same art style. Blue Dragon too. all by Akira Toriyama

That's a sign of a very good RPG. Most of them don't have the greatest replay value due to their length. At most people usually don't play them any more than 5 times or so within a few years. Nice. That increases my excitement for this game. It just looks so good. I can't wait to play it.

It's possible. Took me a while to recognize it myself.
Anyway, this is different. The battle approach doesn't begin with a screen blacking out then re-appearing in an altered setting. Cool. I wish I had this. I really hope it comes out for the VC. That would be wonderful.
Looks like a great game but Secret of Mana is my favorite this seems a little slower. Is it multiplayer and how many characters do you get at a time?

They're both fantastic games.
If you're looking for a more modern experience, with a bit more grinding and hand holding then go with IX.
If you're looking for a classic game with an interesting story and take on Final Fantasy's battle system, then go with CT.

You can actually tell from the copyright info that this is the SNES version of the game. I agree the DS version could have been slightly better done, but at least it wasn't as bad as the PSX version. You didn't have to wait 2 seconds every time a battle started, etc.

I played this game So long ago.....Since I had a Super nintendo emulator for the comp I decided to Dl it.....It's actually kind of fun to play....Takes a while to beat tough lol.

the dragonball z cast existed before this game.
neither were based on the other, they just have the same character designer/author. Dragon Quest also has the same art style. Blue Dragon too. all by Akira Toriyama

That's a sign of a very good RPG. Most of them don't have the greatest replay value due to their length. At most people usually don't play them any more than 5 times or so within a few years. Nice. That increases my excitement for this game. It just looks so good. I can't wait to play it.

It's possible. Took me a while to recognize it myself.
Anyway, this is different. The battle approach doesn't begin with a screen blacking out then re-appearing in an altered setting. Cool. I wish I had this. I really hope it comes out for the VC. That would be wonderful.
