Tell ya what most games of today cannot compare to the old ones... especially this one... this game was as much of a memory game as it was an action adventure game. I love the game and the cheat for it is to name your file character ZELDA (start off in hard difficulty from the start.)

@r00tcause It's the other way around. This here is the Japanese Famicom Disk System version. The FDS has better sound than the NES (I think one extra channel). The game was released on the FDS over a year before the NES version came out, so I'd call this the original.

Koji Kondo, who is credited as "Konchan" in this game, might have listened to the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black" and sort of used that song as inspiration for the way the song of this game opens up, especially the first few seconds: I could imagine Charlie Watts's opening drumbeat coming in before the rest of the instruments just after the intro.

I remember when I was a kid going to the mall, and my older brother bought this game, and he told me it was something called, "Zelda." He took it home and the cartridge was all shiny and gold. I had never seen a shiny gold cartridge before. I knew right away that because the cartridge was shiny and gold that the game was really good, and I was right!

It was one of the best games I ever played, and it was so hard. It took me ages to beat, and I worked for every little secret.
