@Binglung Have you actually listened to anything else from Strung Out? Go back and listen to something from Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues or Another Day in Paradise. Strung out has been around since the early 90's and their sound has changed and evolved so much. They have more talent than you can imagine and a large enough punk following to keep them going -STILL-. Now, by all means, go back and listen to the same cookie cutter bands that make the same sounding albums every single release.

Punk was basically created as a backlash against mainstream "pop" music. It wasn't about any message or belief, it was about being different, experimenting with music and challenging what the popular consensus of what music was. Ever heard of the Residents? They were considered a punk band, but they sound nothing like Dead Kennedy's or Bad Religion. The angstier, more aggressive bands became know as punk rock. Point is, trying different things is the whole point of punk music.

Last time I checked, Strung Out isn't considered punk. Yes, they started in the SoCal punk movement. But they evolved and blended elements of punk, mainstream rock, and metal.
