@topformfitness Well I train the muscles that surround my spine but not the spine itself, I wasn't even aware its possible to strengthen the spine but judging from this video it must be since you arch your back inward (mostly on the log press) and are still standing.
@freshchoresh - I was kinda jokin' with my reply, but yes you can strengthen the smaller spinal extensors ie: multifidus, spinalis, etc. But you're correct that many "Strongman" exercises put your back in flexion under load, which is stressful (especially atlas stone loading). But if you progress properly you can develop an incredibly strong core and trunk, protecting your spine. However, I'm now focusing more on bodyweight training to give my body and nervous system a break.
@topformfitness Ye ano what you mean, i'm into Olympic weightlifting myself, I do conditioning every other week (pull/push ups, dips etc) to give my joints a break; not healthy to go heavy every week.
@bloodcorer - it has never hurt my vertebral column... of course you don't just get off the couch and start flipping cars, for example. It takes years of serious training with the correct program and basic lifts in order to develop the base strength for these activities. But done correctly, big compound movements like this will build a powerful core and strengthen your spinal stabilizers.
Not yet brother... but we will! A few of us have won intermediate level competitions, and some of our members have made the provincial finals in strongman... but we've only been established a couple of years. Watch for us.
