I wonder what became of her? Is she still with us or dead? In the 40's, she was very popular. She had such a sweet, beautiful doll face and a voice like an angel. She had great delivery, charism, and charm. She should have been as famous as Lena Horne, but because of the time, there were limits on how many black women could become big. There's many articles on her from the black newspapers of the time. The last thing written on her was in Jet in 59, that said she was working as a barmaid.

They still had class in those days- Didn't know Ida J till now... interesting blend- sort of upbeat Billie Holiday edge to her voice, but her own style shines through-

If you want to hear (and see) a killer version of "Shoo Shoo Baby", Ida James does it in the 1944 movie TROCADERO. It's about the best arrangement of Shoo Shoo Baby you can ever hope to hear, and Ida James is the fabulous little knockout that she always was.
