  • Pilaf likes Target better than walmart... haha! so far so good.. Great job Pilaf

  • What a good girl! The look on her face when you put the collar on her was priceless! :)

  • i find it very sad that puppies, who are growing up to be guide dogs have to be deaden like this. puppy is supposed to be wild, energic and responsive. overly calm dog just seems not very happy and responsive to me. don't get me wrong, i'm not implying you're abusing her. i'm just used to very playfull pupps who love explore, not the ones who are made to mentally grow up too soon.

  • @bububububak most of the day she spent playing and being a normal puppy. And now that she is comfortable going out she trots right into the store and seems very happy to join. All these puppies grow ar their own pace, if they are not mentally ready for something they are not pushed. Pilaf is a pretty mellow puppy and even at home when she has the freedom to run around she often takes it upon herself to calmly chew on her toys. Just because a puppy is calm doesn't mean they are not happy.

  • @GrowingUpGuidePup i'm happy to hear that. i guess it might be the breed too. labs are quite calm dogs, aren't they? i've got a 4 year old APBT and she's a turbo dog. wouldn't pass to be a guide dog:) i was always concerned about the wellfare of dogs like this, who undergo very complicated training. i mean, things can go wrong and the pressure might be just too big. one has to know what he's doing, because there are many unnatural things the dog is made to do. are they social at all afterwards?

  • @bububububak Labs can be calm but they can also have a lot of energy. Not every puppy bred for guide work makes it as a guide. If the dogs are not happy working they don't work, but those that do become guide really do enjoy their job. And yes these dogs are very social. Most of them have are serious when working, but when the harness comes off they are normal goofy dogs.

  • @GrowingUpGuidePup well thanks for your view:)

  • Thank you for uploading this! I was just wondering how you learned the dog to walk with the head collar. We would like to use it on our dog but she tries to get the collar off. Any suggestions?

  • @16mayo16 sometimes food helps, most dogs will fuss with the head collar at first so use some food, praise and some patience :)

  • Pilaf did awesome on her first outing! It looked like Target. We like going to Target for one of our first outings too. We don't use a head collar with our guide pups, but I like using them on my pet dogs. Thanks for sharing Pilaf's progress!

  • Great episode! Bring on week 5 :D

  • Pilaf is doing Great! Keep up the Great work!

  • Not as much training the dog as it is the owner. Dogs learn quickly and have a high learning retention. Owners on the other hand....

  • I know it's early in the process, but Pilaf seems less distracted than Ricki was last year. Was this just a good day or do you think things look promising in that area?

  • @greeenpro2009 So far Pilaf is really only very dog distracted, so yes in the distraction department she is doing a little better than Ricki, but at home Ricki was way easier to handle :)

  • Go Pilaf!

  • 2:25 when she looks at the camera...priceless!

  • Wow!!! Pilaf did really well on the store! ;-)))

  • Great episode. I can't wait to see Pilaf's progress in the next one. :D

  • She is so CUTE!!!!! I am also really impressed by how well she behaved at the checkout.

  • LOVE Pilaf!

  • Yay! Go Pilaf! :D

  • Target was Haiti's first store!

  • @HannahBanana559 it's a great place to start, not to mention we did have some shopping to do :)

  • @GrowingUpGuidePup Of course! She went on daily hourly walks there.

  • GREAT SHOW PILAF IS SO CUTE ........GREAT SHOTS TWO TUMBS UP

  • She handled the outing pretty well it looked like to me. Great job!

  • BRILLIANT! :)

  • I loved the video keep up the great work!

  • Just wondering, why'd you switch channels?

  • @flaper41 we switched channels to keep each season seperate, hopefully it will be easier to find episodes this way.

  • Ricki says "you handled that head collar great just like I did!"

  • Pilaf impressed me this week.

  • Is/was Pilaf easier to train to walk with you then Ricki was around this time in her training? Is Pilaf a little easier?

  • @MeganTheVampire1 Pilaf is very different thatn Ricki. Ricki really wanted to please us and leaned house manners very quickly, but she was difficult to crate train. Pilaf was super easy to crate train and already walks pretty well on a leash but she has been very difficult to teach house manners to. Pilaf is very impulsive, she will grab at anything that catches her eye without thinking about if it is acceptable or not.
