i truly respect chris and he and i are a lot a like i spent 5 years hitchhiking canada and have spent 3 months in the wild aka no mans land ultimate freedom i made some travel videos check em out on my page
I have stood on a bluff over looking Lake Superior in the teeth of a 70 mph gale. I had a shelter built from the land and a fire made with no matches behind me. I had my pack and my shotgun. 5 days, myself and the spectacle of nature. I hunt and scavenge effectively and I ate well. I have a picture of a sunset that nobody can take from me. I have lived this song, in ways most cannot imagine. I have.
@TheRambo4real If he had actually tried to withstand a 70mph gale with a shelter and campfire, he would not be an enviable figure. He would be a drowned rat. I call bullshit.
@ppitm i agree, the fire wouldn't even be able to sustain a flame at 70mph gale force winds and for that matter a 70mph wind is what is generated from hurricanes, it can uproot trees, rip power lines from the ground and cause sever damage to houses. so how his shelter and fire were able to survive is a scientific impossibility unless his shelter was made of bricks and cement on a solid concrete foundation with the fire inside, in which case I would hardly call that roughing it. so he is a liar.
@luketdrifter2100 You don't know how I am or what I've done, sonny. But by all means, tell me about the time you went ice skating with polar bears on Mt. Everest, you intrepid woodsman, you. You couldn't start a fire in 70mph winds if you were using napalm. Talk to a blue water sailor and maybe you'll have some sort of idea what that sort of windspeed is like.
@luketdrifter2100 your fire wouldn't even be able to sustain a flame at 70mph gale force winds and for that matter a 70mph wind is what is generated from hurricanes, it can uproot trees, rip power lines from the ground and cause sever damage to houses. so how ur shelter and fire were able to survive is a scientific impossibility, not to mention how u were able to hunt in those conditions, tracks would b gone and all wildlife would be hidden or left the area, you Sir are a liar.
@BetweenTheFade And you sir, are an idiot. I didn't say I built the fire and shelter on the bluff. Read things, hipster. We have things here called "trees" which grow in large large bunches called "forests" and animals, they live in these things...where exactly are they going to go in a "hurricane" that you speak of...which of course means you've never been NEAR the Great Lakes or you'd know you were an idiot. Do you think the head to the Marriott when the weather get's poor?
@luketdrifter2100 LOL chill bro. no ive nvr been to the great lakes but i live in canada and im surrounded by 5 lakes. im aware of things called trees, 70mph gale force winds can uproot a tree, so how can ur shelter made of sticks and branches survive something of that magnitude, unless u r over exagerating or clearyl lying. and 5 days in the woods is called camping.
-This song reminds me of this great paragraph from "The call of the Wild" by Jack London.
"There is an ecstasy that marks the summit of life, and beyond which life cannot rise. And such is the paradox of living, this ecstasy comes when one is most alive, and it comes as a complete forgetfulness that one is alive. This ecstasy, this forgetfulness of living, comes to the artist, caught up and out of himself in a sheet of flame; and it came to Buck, leading the pack, sounding the old wolf-cry.
straining after the food that was alive and that fled swiftly before him through the moonlight. He was sounding the deeps of his nature, and of the parts of his nature that were deeper than he, going back into the womb of Time.
He was mastered by the sheer surging of life, the tidal wave of being, the perfect joy of each separate muscle, joint, and sinew in that it was everything that was not death, that it was aglow and rampant, expressing itself in movement, flying exultantly under the stars and over the face of dead matter that did not move."
Now this song always makes me tear up because of the Deadliest Catch playing this on all of their Phil Harris tributes and it makes me sad to think what it would be like to lose my dad...
he's such a talented man, with a amazing voice that speaks to our hearts.i hope when i get older i can go to one of his concerts.....i love you pearl jam

Such a shame it featured in deadliest catch .. It's way better if you just know it from into the wild .. Eddie writes the best songs . Perfect fit for the theme of the movie .

@theforgottenwork I will be there with you mate with my gear packed from New Zealand. I hope you find what you are looking for in life my friend. Enjoy yourself and stay safe.
@theforgottenwork I'm going to laugh when you walk out your front door with your backpack and walking stick, then come right back to your house after 30 minutes when you realize how stupid you are.
@hoitdoigs we can all dream that walking away is so easy, in reality it takes a lot more to actually stick around, home is where everything is...............its nothing as it seems, all that he needs..................is home
@theforgottenwork I agree! If you ever walk into the wild and need company let me know! I will go myself! This world is sooooo fucked! Nature is all we got left to cleanse our souls!
@johnbruder01 who the hell are you, this song was in into the wild, made for into the wild and quit acting like you know the guy "oh lets not focus on the commercial aspect of harris blah blah..." well then take your douchebag know it all comments to a vid that isnt of a song from a COMMERCIAL
Gee Whiz! Thanks for letting us know this was used in a commercial and was from "Into the Wild"!! Guess us stupid ones can't like a song that was used in a commercial. Thanks for letting us know. And how should we dress for dinner? Did it ever occur to you that we may just like the song? Dang, guess that doesn't work. So sorry!!
@ceb2633 ok not really following that. but read the reply i gave johnbruder01, and i wasn't trying to inform anyone/command anyone, i just proposed that these comments be taken elsewhere to me it lacks relevance to his death and if you cant see where im coming from, well, maybe i do need to pick out your dinner clothes for you. i could get someone to help you put them on too, you know, if you cant handle it, but if you cant wait for me to send help just be careful, and remember to take it slow
Thanks for the advice. I am sure I can find someone to help me to remember to put on shoes. The rest I can handle myself. Oh, by the way, I did hear the song before it was on a commercial. Probably dreamed it, in my senile state. Have a great day.
@kfry55 you are into the commercial aspect of the movie into the wild. let it go. watch episode 11 12 13 and 14. i spent 2 years under Captain Phils tutelage you simpleton. Johnny boy. that is me. I now run 3 boats in the great lakes of Michigan because of Capt Phils generosity you simpleton
@johnbruder01 ok ill acknowledge your attachment to captain phil but like i said, y this video? y not tribute video to him? i BELIEVE, that this particular video is not so fitting for deadliest catch fans to be blowing up. i BELIEVE this video more suitable for comments about eddie vedder, the song, and the movie into the wild, which this was MADE for, and i like into the wild because its an amazing story and i also have the book there is nothing commercial about that as there IS with DC
this song alone has inspired me to learn the mandolin, eddie vedder has been put into a new light in my eyes and i hope he keeps his solo stuff up because its phenomenal.
not that it isnt sad that the crab fisherman dies, but seriously...this song was in Into The Wild before that commercial for Deadliest Catch so how bout we not stray to0 far from the music with all these comments, the only thing relevant between harris and this song is the tv show, find another vid to tlk about that, comment on the music, this vid is only mildly relevant to deadliest catch
@Deekonmix23 Capt Harris was a man who spent his life, catching live crabs for the rich. his life was momentarily recorded on television for all to see. please forget the commercial aspect. he was much more than that.
@Deekonmix23 alaskan crab fisherman who died not to long ago hes from the deadlest catch and this is the son they have on the commercial for the new season
To Captain Phil Harris....a father that loved his sons deeply,a man that sailed the the sea with passion, and a captain that brought his crew home safely without fail...fair winds and following seas skipper...rest in peace..
23 years sailing the water ways of the world as a u.s. sailor. i never met capt phil, but i know many, many men like him. each and every one working like a dog to pass on a little something for his kids.please keep the coffee hot and the BRANDY warm dear captain. we all will get there oneday or another.
32 people have forgotten how to dream and how to wander.

@kfry55
Thanks for the advice. I am sure I can find someone to help me to remember to put on shoes. The rest I can handle myself. Oh, by the way, I did hear the song before it was on a commercial. Probably dreamed it, in my senile state. Have a great day.

@ceb2633 not quite sure when i said youd never heard this before but hey your senile like you said

@johnbruder01 ok ill acknowledge your attachment to captain phil but like i said, y this video? y not tribute video to him? i BELIEVE, that this particular video is not so fitting for deadliest catch fans to be blowing up. i BELIEVE this video more suitable for comments about eddie vedder, the song, and the movie into the wild, which this was MADE for, and i like into the wild because its an amazing story and i also have the book there is nothing commercial about that as there IS with DC

this song alone has inspired me to learn the mandolin, eddie vedder has been put into a new light in my eyes and i hope he keeps his solo stuff up because its phenomenal.

not that it isnt sad that the crab fisherman dies, but seriously...this song was in Into The Wild before that commercial for Deadliest Catch so how bout we not stray to0 far from the music with all these comments, the only thing relevant between harris and this song is the tv show, find another vid to tlk about that, comment on the music, this vid is only mildly relevant to deadliest catch

listening to this song makes me want to be an Alaskan crab fisherman

Can someone tell me who Phill Harris is and what he did please?
Deekonmix23 1 year ago
@Deekonmix23 Capt Harris was a man who spent his life, catching live crabs for the rich. his life was momentarily recorded on television for all to see. please forget the commercial aspect. he was much more than that.
