I was trying to decide between this amp and the blackstar ht 40, but this demo really conviced me that the ht 40 is the one for my needs, i dont need built in fx i have pedals.
A well thought-out amp for a gigging musician. Forty watts is more than enough for most situations. I played small concert halls with a 45-watt Fender Super Amp through two 2-12 very efficient EV cabinets, was plenty loud and I could really crank the amp without busting eardrums or drowning out the rest of the band. Definitely want the 4-way foot switch, though. Marshall strikes again - nice.
@tauheke hey i just got a boss rc 3 for my marshall haze 40 and when i plug it in to the regular input and try looping the stuff i play makes the loop pause and it only works when i plug it into the back but then i can't use the distortion or volume controls? could you help me?
this is a great amp! i've been using it for a year ! and the only problem i've ever had with it was the fuse, which blew :P but other than that ! it's a fantastic amp with new sound ! much recommended! :D
I own this amp and it sounds amazingly good. The only problem is its quality. It has had major electronical issues three times in one year, so I'm going to ditch this one and move on to Orange.
Its a great amp! I've just bought it! But my 2-way footswitch doensn't work. Does someone have an idea? I really don't know. Only the LED's are working.
Iv got this amp, been using it for about 2 years now.. It's solid!! Only had to replace tubes but that comes with it being played through so often. The sounds are really great, so many different things you can do with it, the boosts are great, effects are brilliant and reverb is great with the clean sounds even at low levels.
its impossible to judge by watching youtube videos. you can only judge by playing through this amp. it sounds amazing. its got that warm full tube tone, and the overdrive is really full and round and fat. the clean is lacking in the bass although. if you hit the boost though, it starts to fatten up alot. but it has that classic tube sound that cuts through the mix.
Regardless of owning the amp or whether its a good recording blah blah blah I simply do not like the sound of this amp. And it's a demonstration OF an amp, and how it sounds IS the WHOLE POINT of the video.
can you get a good hard rock tone out of this amp? (AC/DC, Guns N Roses, 80's metal in general)? What about thrash metal (Megadeth, Metallica)? Or some modern metal (Alter Bridge)
@mjguitar6132 ac/dc and G&R is achievable , Megadeth too.... not too sure on Alter Bridge :P just add a distortion pedal then yeah you can get that omph! :D
—Imathumbswhore. I have heard it, more than a few times. I've owned a Marshall Vintage Modern - it wasn't anything special either. Then, I bought a Fender Supersonic 22 watt - KILLER. Sounds even Marshall at times. So, I should have clarified things.. the Haze to me sounds compressed, constricted. No one ever said you had to spend thousands for dollars. And I'm sorry, this doesn't sound anything like a Plexi. This Haze lacks articulation, crispness - it sounds muddy to me.
So is there an difference between a stack and a combo other than the " cabinets and heads " difference ,like is there any difference in tone or anything at all?
Chris George. Great Demo. May I ask what pickups you are using in this vid? I am seeking a good humbucking sound but don't know where to start.
AS for the Haze. I spent 4 hours in GeetarCenter trying every single amp. They all fell short when I really dug in the EAD chording thing. They all broke up badly and not in a good way except this (Haze) and the Fender Hot rod something.
Not sure why I chose the Haze over the Fender. Awaiting shipment now.
All I have to say, is the amp sounds very muddy with no definition when high gain is kicked in. I much prefer the BlackStar series amps in this same price range which has better sound quality and higher gain with more definition.
would this be loud enough to play without mixing up at live shows in bars etc for example over a loud drum kit ? vie never owned a valve so im not sure
@dakotaufc Yeah. I hear you. I've been through a lot of gear over the decades and I'm STILL always looking for something I'm not hearing. The HAZE has some nice qualities, but as I said, I prefer other Marshalls. As always, it's personal style and preference.
@dakotaufc The Marshall tone is a sonic aspect in all Marshalls, but there's a BIG difference in the SOUND of different Marshalls. That's why prices vary & different musicians play different ones. There is a great vid here called Marshall Haze 40 Guitar Amp-Product Performance . The Haze holds its own nicely. Still, more expensive Marshalls have more to them. The legendary tone = JMP, 1959SLP, SIlver Jubilee etc. 80s = JCM 800. Hear clean tone in a vid here titled Marshall SLP1959 quick demo.
Sounds great! The internal effects are really nice too. I personally prefer other Marshalls, but this would be great in a jam (pun intended). Hard to find one amp that serves all purposes 100% to what I'd like for each need, but Marshall always leads the way there.
im not a marshall fan usually but this sounds pretty nice, good crunch to it. p.s i like that he can play very well but isnt constantly playing the 'showy' stuff.
One of the best sounding amps you've ever owned??? It sounds like a box of crap. I hate the fact that Marshall has so many settings on these amps. Their best sounding amps are over 35 years old.
I recently read a post on forum - can't remember which one. This guy said he can "NAIL" AC/DC tones. Ahhh, I don't think so.
@bongerbob I doubt you ever tried playing through this amp. If this sounds like "a box of crap" to you then you need some serious ear surgery! This thing sounds fucking amazing! All that bullshit about old amps sounding better than everything else is getting really annoying. I'm not paying thousands of dollars for an old amp that can only produce the same old sound that everyone else has already heard a billion times. Haze 40 is fresh, it's an amazing amp, and it fucking rocks!
@qwecars I understand anyone not wanting to pay the ridiculous prices for the old amps but cmon the old marshall's are so much better than the haze. The haze is good sure but it's like owning an epiphone and always feeling a little sad when you see a gibson, it'll never be that good. And if you're used to the warm crisp sound of a vox ac30 or an orange rockerverb then I completely agree with bongerbob, this amp does sound incredibly muddy
Can it be used at bedroom environments and volume in a decent manner? I'm into some small gigs and stuff but if this thing only has one volume (HARD) then it's useless for me to buy it.. That'd mean 600 bucks getting ripped to pieces by my roommates..
why do they insist on putting BS digital effects in these amps??? Making you pay more for crap you rarely use... how bout just a high quality reverb??
@wedge070 I totally agree with you. I own a Bogner Alchemist and they did the same thing. So many cheap bells and whistles. I would prefer just a straight up amp...let me decide what to put in front of it (if anything),
Why are marshall amps so frieaking expensive..I'm kidding of course I think this is a great sounding amp and well worth the 800 dollars even though I've played it just a few times.
I can't help but notice that of all the commenters who criticize this amp, none claim to own one. I own this amp, among several others and it is without a doubt the most versatile, best sounding amp I've ever owned.
@wunwinglo Just bought one today. Got rid of my harsh sounding Bogner Alchemist! I mainly play through a Fender Vibrolux, and this amp will be nice A/B compliment. After messing around for a few hours I noticed it takes OD pedals really well. Especially the OCD and Zendrive! I'm thinking of just using the clean channel (no boost) and using od's. It sounds amazing! The cleans are surprisingly warm and fender like. In short, put the right od pedal in front and it comes alive.
@wunwinglo you don't have to own this amp to know that it just isn't that great. it's ok but not great. play a real Marshall plexi and a/b it against this amp and you'll know what the difference is
in the footswitch the boost should be for clean and overdrive! its just silly, if it was just boost instead of od boost, on the footswitch you could have 4 sound instead of 4!
So many people are complaining about this amp, saying how bad it sounds. If Joe Satriani or Eddie Van Halen or someone like that plugged into it, everybody would be commenting on how amazing the sound is.
sounds like its broke this is an awful amp clean and overdrive suck 700 bucks rip wouldnt pay 50 bucks marshall way overrated and overpriced sounds like a transistor radio this is the worst tube amp ever
@rthunderkiss65 so your saying the hendrix, rhoads, van halen 's tone sound like a transistor radio? marshall maybe overpriced but dont sound like a radio
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if what you need is very clean...cant you plug the guitar into the Return jack of the FX loop, which makes you bypass the pre-amp and therefore the gain?
@CrazyDiamond1968, I totally agree. He is the only person I've heard who can make a Marshall sound like shit. Nick Bowcott works for Marshall, I don't understand why they don't get him to do these demos.
Someone get this guy a descent guitar! =/ I finally got my haze 40 =D teamhex marshall sound way better than fender. Fretboarder- what you gotta do is get this amp with a multi effects processor and they have everything on them like the ME-70 that i have, you can make a 10 watt crappy fender amp sound like slashes amps!
are you kidding? decent guitar? i don't mean to sound angry or any thing, it just that a guitar don't have to be a gibson or fender to be a great guitar! his guitar sounds awesome in my opinion and doesn't look to bad either, so this is GOOD guitar ;)
@fretboarder Hell no, but the dsl is way more expencive. I have a moddet 401 ( bethere tubes and vintage30 speaker ) and it sound as good as any marshall amp. I do have an old 401 so i hade to build a new amp cab to make sure it dose not overheat. New 401s dont over heat anymore ^^.
@braberdebrabel22 i just got a dsl401 used its a 98 model ive heard of someone cutting a hole in the top and putting a grill there from a mg or something..its a cool amp sounds great:)
Another Marshall amps tone DESTROYED BY CHRIS GEORGE AND HIS HORRIBLE GUITAR AND TERRIBLE PICKUPS. Please somebody buy him a new guitar, because this is the dullest Les Paul "wannabee" guitar I've ever heard
@CrazyDiamond1968 how do you know he likes les pauls... guitars shouldent be picked by people... you have to play feel and see how u like the guitar before you buy one... im sure he has played a les paul... maybey he dident like like it.. and i think his guitar sounds just fine... and i think the amp is amazing
@duh464 ...what do you mean how do I know he likes Les pauls?...he's playing one, not a Gibson or Tokai, looks like an ESP, and it sounds like trash....cant you hear how dull and muffled the tone is. The amp is great, I own the Haze 15, but Chris George seems to make the worst Marshall demos around.
Yes, probably loud enough for a talent show or small pub gig but in a two guitar band or gigging without miking the amp it isnt loud enough. But smaller watt tube amps are the most fun cause you can crank em all the way up and really hear the tubes , nothing can match that cranked marshall sound!
@bmpolaris try improvising on an E major pentatonic scale strumming say the open low E and some notes from the scale taken on the A string at the same time...you'll soon get close to that ;)
sounds sweet... this might be a stupid question, but can this be clearly heard over drums on the clean channel? im really considering getting this and that would be the final thing i need to know! someone please help haha
So does this amp just pretty much not have any headroom in the clean channel at all. I'd like for my clean channel to be heard cleanly over the drums without breakup. Don't get me wrong that's a beautiful tone, but I like my clean channel clean. I wouldn't want to have to switch to 6L6s, get it re biased and completely change the tone.
I just got one and im totally impressed! Insane amount of volume if you need it(Great for small venues) Just an awesome (Meat and Potatoes) kinda sound
Wow, you get an almost distortion-like sound without and distortion effect. That's something I'm not used to...is that because I don't use a tube amp?
@AleifrLeifrson i think? ive never had a completley solid state amp. but my vox valvetron that has a preamp tube gets what you call "breakup" when i go on the clean sound and turn the volume and gain really high (gain isint distortion its just the power being put into the channel). it starts to breakup and sound a lil more distorted, but it never got that dirty like this haze did, so im sure it has to do with the tubes.
4.06 sounds really close to an opeth riff, yeah the amps ok I have a mashall acoustic iit has all the effects bells and wistles too all the knobs and such, but i can get past the tone of the vox the small ones ac4tv and the fender champiion in fact fenders amps do seem better they have less belss and whiltes.NOting really replaces the warm valve tone..
I'm trying to decide between this or an orange tiny terror. Somebody please help

Many guys said this amp was shit...
This is a vintage-amp! It isnt a high-gain monster like some cheap transistor or metal tube amps.
Only if you play this haze louder you´ll hear the nice clan sound and the crunching rock sound. But Metal is also possible. :D
You have to know this is NOT an amp for your home. For that it is too loud.
Also: You can´t hear the warm clean sound through your computerspeakers...
Try it louder, then you see what i mean!

@wunwinglo you don't have to own this amp to know that it just isn't that great. it's ok but not great. play a real Marshall plexi and a/b it against this amp and you'll know what the difference is
8thEastTexasBlues 7 months ago
in the footswitch the boost should be for clean and overdrive! its just silly, if it was just boost instead of od boost, on the footswitch you could have 4 sound instead of 4!

Marshall Haze 40 or marshall class 5?
armyqpzm 1 year ago
So many people are complaining about this amp, saying how bad it sounds. If Joe Satriani or Eddie Van Halen or someone like that plugged into it, everybody would be commenting on how amazing the sound is.
DisasterBlaster500 1 year ago
haze 15 stack sounds better.

Not a big fan of the Haze line....i like mny Class 5 and DSL50 wayyyyy more!
jammers5 1 year ago
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if what you need is very clean...cant you plug the guitar into the Return jack of the FX loop, which makes you bypass the pre-amp and therefore the gain?
CharlesMcWin 1 year ago
Should I get this or the 15 watt head? Thanks.
cooldragon111 1 year ago
@CrazyDiamond1968, I totally agree. He is the only person I've heard who can make a Marshall sound like shit. Nick Bowcott works for Marshall, I don't understand why they don't get him to do these demos.
Jank143 1 year ago
would this be good for alternative/screamo?
supapuffy2007 1 year ago
Someone get this guy a descent guitar! =/ I finally got my haze 40 =D teamhex marshall sound way better than fender. Fretboarder- what you gotta do is get this amp with a multi effects processor and they have everything on them like the ME-70 that i have, you can make a 10 watt crappy fender amp sound like slashes amps!
gibarshel 2 years ago
are you kidding? decent guitar? i don't mean to sound angry or any thing, it just that a guitar don't have to be a gibson or fender to be a great guitar! his guitar sounds awesome in my opinion and doesn't look to bad either, so this is GOOD guitar ;)

is this amp better than the marshall dsl401 anyone??
fretboarder 2 years ago
@fretboarder Hell no, but the dsl is way more expencive. I have a moddet 401 ( bethere tubes and vintage30 speaker ) and it sound as good as any marshall amp. I do have an old 401 so i hade to build a new amp cab to make sure it dose not overheat. New 401s dont over heat anymore ^^.
braberdebrabel22 2 years ago
@braberdebrabel22 i just got a dsl401 used its a 98 model ive heard of someone cutting a hole in the top and putting a grill there from a mg or something..its a cool amp sounds great:)

Another Marshall amps tone DESTROYED BY CHRIS GEORGE AND HIS HORRIBLE GUITAR AND TERRIBLE PICKUPS. Please somebody buy him a new guitar, because this is the dullest Les Paul "wannabee" guitar I've ever heard

@CrazyDiamond1968 how do you know he likes les pauls... guitars shouldent be picked by people... you have to play feel and see how u like the guitar before you buy one... im sure he has played a les paul... maybey he dident like like it.. and i think his guitar sounds just fine... and i think the amp is amazing
duh464 1 year ago
@duh464 ...what do you mean how do I know he likes Les pauls?...he's playing one, not a Gibson or Tokai, looks like an ESP, and it sounds like trash....cant you hear how dull and muffled the tone is. The amp is great, I own the Haze 15, but Chris George seems to make the worst Marshall demos around.
CrazyDiamond1968 1 year ago
@CrazyDiamond1968 It's a LAG Imperator and the guitar is great. But I agree the tone is muffled. Maybe he just likes muffled tone..?
grassmover99 1 year ago
The amp sounds amazing my only question is, is it loud enough to use at a small or medium gig? Like a talent show for example
fidelis51 2 years ago

Haemorrhold 2 years ago
So does this amp just pretty much not have any headroom in the clean channel at all. I'd like for my clean channel to be heard cleanly over the drums without breakup. Don't get me wrong that's a beautiful tone, but I like my clean channel clean. I wouldn't want to have to switch to 6L6s, get it re biased and completely change the tone.

what is best this or the 15 watt mini stack ?
guitarnuttty 2 years ago
Watch live demos of them both and you be the judge. Because when it comes to what's best questions, it's ALL about personal preference.
ronspeck 2 years ago
40 watt is mush better !
MultiJacob123 2 years ago
this is way better man. but much more expensive. this is a valve amp and the mini stack is solid state.
777RAD777 2 years ago
so you cant just get a nice clean tone at a high volume?
RHCP2210B 2 years ago
I had a JCM2000 half-stack, and you still couldn't get a decent clean sound in a medium-sized room without miking it.
So: mike it.
Actually, best loud clean sound I had was from a Soldano combo..
mallott2402 2 years ago
Wow, you get an almost distortion-like sound without and distortion effect. That's something I'm not used to...is that because I don't use a tube amp?
AleifrLeifrson 2 years ago
@AleifrLeifrson i think? ive never had a completley solid state amp. but my vox valvetron that has a preamp tube gets what you call "breakup" when i go on the clean sound and turn the volume and gain really high (gain isint distortion its just the power being put into the channel). it starts to breakup and sound a lil more distorted, but it never got that dirty like this haze did, so im sure it has to do with the tubes.
imwarcraftinyo 2 years ago
What guitar is that?

sounds great only thing is its $700

your kidding right... 700 is not a lot for a 40 watt tube combo...

marshall is not my style but if i hear more reviews of this one maybe it's gonna be:)
