@ksb100pr No, we don't get to list what types of patients and issues we can work with. The one issue we can choose to opt out of is participating in an abortion. In the very rare occurrence when a woman might need an emergency abortion there are plenty of nursing staff available who aren't conscientious objectors. The ab is done on an ob floor or in an or, where the pro-life nurse is simply replaced by another member of the nursing staff. Same is true for doctors.

Now, two years later, the clause still protects us. No one can be fired for refusing participation. As far as pro-life docs, there are plenty. The AMA has a "concscience clause" protecting the right of a physician to refuse participation in any procedure which disagrees with her ethics, or professional/personal standard of care. Second of all, the term "first do no harm" means that health care providers are supposed to enhance the patient's quality of life, NEVER to purposefully harm them. Any medicine has side effects but if that's the most effective way to improve their health, the benefits outweigh the risks. Abortion kills the patient that no one considers. You have every right to disagree with me but at least try to be a little more diplomatic.

honestly, I know this sounds cold, but there is not a difference. We all have the choice to perform or not to. Abortion is played out so bad as a "murder". My first girlfriend and I decided to have an abortion at 6 weeks. We both know that was the right decision. If the doctor would have wussed out on us, it would have been pretty awkward, since that is part of his job duties. If he didn't want to help us out, he could have decided to work somewhere else where abortion was not an option.
