@ksb100pr No, we don't get to list what types of patients and issues we can work with. The one issue we can choose to opt out of is participating in an abortion. In the very rare occurrence when a woman might need an emergency abortion there are plenty of nursing staff available who aren't conscientious objectors. The ab is done on an ob floor or in an or, where the pro-life nurse is simply replaced by another member of the nursing staff. Same is true for doctors.
@ksb100pr This video was made when the issue was raised that the Freedom of Choice Act might endanger the Conscience Clause that already is in place to protect conscientious objector health care staff from being required to participate in abortion. Now, two years later, the clause still protects us. No one can be fired for refusing participation. As far as pro-life docs, there are plenty. Watch some videos of speakers from the Christian Medical and Dental Association.
@SoDarkSunshine Also, just so you know I'm praying for you, because you've got to carry around a lot of hurt inside, to possibly think it's acceptable to be that rude to complete strangers. You're in my heart and my prayers sweety.
@SoDarkSunshineThe fact that you are trying to demoralize the efforts of concerned American citizens, through heinous comments on youtube, worries me. Honestly if you think you being a perpetual, vulgar, crude human being is going to do anything to stop us you are wrong, it will only make us fight harder. Just so you know 1/3 of the current generation is missing because of abortion, so pick one out of your three closest friends and imagine they're dead, because that's what you're supporting.
@TempusFugit101 Just because nobody ever wants to have sex with you, and therefore every child you conceive is a god-damned miracle, don't tell me what I can and cannot do to a ball of cells growing within one of my organs. Piss off, you arrogant fucktard redneck hick.
@TempusFugit101 If my mother had not wanted to have me, I do wish I would have been aborted. However, she did want to have me and had the resources to raise me, so I've had a wonderful life. Does that answer your question? I can honestly say that as a college student, if I did get pregnant right now, especially with the numerous contraceptive precautions I am taking, I'd abort it. I would never be able to raise a child right now but I loove me some sexy time. You aren't going to change my mind.
I am a future anti abortion nurse. There is a great shortage of nurses in the US, making it harder for some people to be nurses is just going to mean there are even less nurses.
@Vrijheidx I am thankful you are going to be a nurse as well. The world needs more nurses... rather than labeling yourself as a pro-choice or pro-life nurse, why don't you learn to focus on the health and well being of your patients and less on labels. Your patients will thank you for your unbiased care.
I noticed 11 thumbs down...probably by those who claim to be "pro-choice"...What about "my" choice to have a clear conscience? What about my choice not to participate and my choice to believe it's wrong? What about MY choice you who claim to be "pro-choice"? I think you're not "pro-choice at all...I think you're mostly "pro YOU". Who's next? Old people? The disabled? Or me for having a thought?
XD if you don't like abortion you cannot be forced to preform one in your line of work. My mother is a nurse, and it's unethical to force someone to do something they are against. The same way a veterinarian can refuse to euthanize.
There is no law being passed that requires doctors to perform abortions... that would be so highly immoral and illegal. Radical anti-choicers like this "Be Heard Project" are no different from the birthers or truthers... make up lies, and use them to justify big government legislation. You do it with Crisis Pregnancy Centers, and now you're doing it here. When will it end, people?
If you have ideological, political, or religious hang-ups that prevent you from performing duties entailed in your job description you probably should find another job. Imagine if police officers arbitrarily refused to enforce laws they disagreed with or if bus drivers turned off their engines with passengers in tow mid-route because his religion forbids him from operating a vehicle after sun down.
@NyBob85 No one's asking to be allowed to refuse to do their job. The AMA has a "concscience clause" protecting the right of a physician to refuse participation in any procedure which disagrees with her ethics, or professional/personal standard of care. I've nursed in the US for many years, never has my pro-life stance interfered with my commitment to safe, effective patient care.
I'm a retired nurse, and fully aware that not all nurses are women.
My comment "...the right of a physician to refuse participation in any procedure which disagrees with her ethics..." was in reference to doctors, not nurses. and yes, I know that not all doctors are women, either.
@SoDakSunshine The children who've been aborted, if they could speak, would probably not buy your pro-child claim. As you are someone who was not aborted and can therefore speak, can you tell me, would you have preferred your mother had you aborted?
Obama aint forcing anyone to carry out abortions. If facilities are equipped to carry them out, then MDs and NPs must be fully aware of their job descriptions. It's the healthcare practitioner's choice to work there so they shouldnt complain
Uhh yes but a person's moral conviction should be respected! If you wanna go kill babies, go ahead, but if you ask me to assist you, I would definitely say NO.
as a nurse i support expanding the conscience clause. we should all be able to opt out of anything we consider wrong. i don't believe in giving pain medication, i should have the right to let a pt writh in agony so as to not violate my conscience. let them suck it up for so i can feel better!

This is so stupid! If you're a medical professional, you HAVE to do what the patient tells you (I know that's very oversimplified but still). If you can't handle abortion, then DON'T BE A FRIGGIN NURSE!
There actually is a reason why the ruling elites in the US (the people behind the "beheardproject") want the lower classes to reproduce against their will: more wage slaves to work for the big corporate bosses who make cash off their sweat and bones. Fuck capitalism and fuck pro-lifers.
You most certainly do not have to do what a patient tells you. There should clearly be regulations in place. I would like you to picture something immoral. Now imagine your boss tells you to do it. Hopefully, you think your boss does not have the right to do this. A nurse's job is to care for patients, and if they feel what they are doing is killing a human being, then they have the right to abstain from it.
1. They are being forced to reproduce if they're not able to get an abortion, yes.
2. How is my channel "Jew-hating" exactly? I have nothing against Jewish people. What I have a problem with are the Israeli state's unethical actions against the Palestinians.
Unlike you, I don't support states or the interests of states. Unlike the people who made this ad I don't think states should be enforcing religious morals on people.
1. Ahem no, this add is asking the president not to force those of us who are of faith to perform abortions. It has nothing to do with "being forced to reproduce". There are plenty of medical staff that can kill your child for you. Roe V. Wade is still the law of the land.
2. Even if Roe V. Wade was not the law of the land it would be completely false to say that anyone is being forced to have children. You can be responsible and use contraceptives. Or you can practice abstinence.
3. Where is your condemnation of literally thousands of Islamic attacks against Jews, Christians and other Muslims? Where is your condemnation of the Gazan Terrorist Hamaz government which straps bombs to children and has put crucifixion back on the books. Where is your demand for the Palestinians to immediately recognize Israel's right to exist and cease launching rockets at civilians?
@BorislavX There is no evidence that Hamas straps bombs to children. The only sources which promote that myth are Israeli propaganda groups.
What Jordan (ruled by a British puppet gov. none the less) did to the Palestinians is no justification for what Israel does to the Palestinians. That's just like saying Hitler wasn't really bad because Stalin killed more people.
I would never support a Jewish state. I wouldn't support any state. Why should any state exist? Tell me.
Israel occupies a tiny patch of land, yet it is the ONLY Jewish country in the world. There are dozens of Arabic Islamic states which surround Israel and could not care less about the Palestinians. Where is your condemnation of those countries?
Where is your condemnation of Jordan which killed more Palestinians in Black September 1971 than Israel has killed since the first Antiphada till today?
Again, you are a Jew hater. Otherwise you would know the above.
Considering how many people your cause has killed and tortured (with your opposition to assisted dying), I'd say that revoking the conscience clause is a fair taste of your own medicine.
Considering how many people your cause has killed and tortured (with your opposition to assisted dying), I'd say that revoking the conscience clause is a fair taste of your own medicine.
George Carlin is an idiot. That just shows you how little he knows what he is talking about. The eggs you buy at the supermarket for food are unfertalized eggs. Thats why they dont hatch into baby chicks. Its just a yolk in a shell. Its the equivilant of a woman having her period. You dont make omlettes from fertalized eggs. There is no comparison.
@MrAbolitionist Why, what makes humans so special and so self-centered that they're better than every other living thing on this earth? And what makes other people so special that they believe that they can force their beliefs on other people. If a nurse has a problem with abortions, fine. But I'm pretty sure that they know the job description ahead of time. So why work there???
@t003lit3 yes and if you're a male citizen your required to submit to a draft, should we get rid of conscientious objection and tell quakers to go to war or resign from citizenship? abortion is not just something that someone "dislikes" it's a serious question of ethics, to tell a pro-life nurse to perform an elective abortion or get fired is forcing beliefs.
i am 100% pro-choice, but i have no problem with of a person being able to avoid taking part in an abortion. nothing unreasonable about that. i would hope that if an abortion was taking place, and something goes wrong during the procedure, and the woman is in peril... people of such convictions would do anything they could to help the woman. to not do so would be contemptable and hypocritical. but i don't think people should be required to be part of the procedure itself.
Whats next? Force women to abort in order to keep the population down? Only allow women a certain amount of children & force them to abort any more than that?! Pro-choice accuses us of trying to take their "choices" away...& now thats EXACTLY what they are doing to these health care workers!
I have read some of these comments & my jaw drops to the floor...some of these ppl are acting like its nothing more than emptying a bedpan! "fire then for not doing an aspect of their job" ...Apart of their JOB!?! pro-choice dehumanizes the issue & they get angry if you dont support abortion...screaming about takeing their CHOICE away...& now they want to take away the CHOICE of others who dont agree with them...they want to FORCE someone to do an abortion! ...cont..
"It is only if human life is respected from conception to death that the ethics of peace is also possible and credible," concluded the Pope. "It is only then that non-violence can express itself in every direction; only then that we truly welcome creation, and only then that we can arrive at true justice." Pope Benedict XVI
Considering that abortions go against the Hippocratic Oath, all of them should be illegal solely on that basis. But since I don't see that happening any time soon, nurses should have every right to refuse to assist in abortions. I love this video and this cause!
First of all, that was completely rude and unnecessary. Second of all, the term "first do no harm" means that health care providers are supposed to enhance the patient's quality of life, NEVER to purposefully harm them. Any medicine has side effects but if that's the most effective way to improve their health, the benefits outweigh the risks. Abortion kills the patient that no one considers. You have every right to disagree with me but at least try to be a little more diplomatic.
The only thing eliminating the "conscience clause" does is that it makes people responsible for their actions. If people do not want to perform one aspect of their job, their employers have every right to fire them.
Even some actively Pro-Choice medical providers and professionals feel that the provider or professional in question should have the right to say no due to good conscience.
We strongly disagree about the life issue, and probably other important issues. I do agree with you that individuals and businesses should be left alone by government, unless there are illegal activities going on. Let's hope that our God-given liberties continue and are restored, where they have eroded; and that we can pursue our lives, dreams, and goals - in accordance with our own personal convictions and consciences - without government oppression and dictates.
Its part of the job... if you don't want to perform certain aspects of your duties then get a different job! If a busboy will clean the dishes but cleaning the bathrooms makes him uncomfortable, he gets fired, same with any other job.
Do you think that perhaps being directed to kill a human being may be a bit different than being directed to clean a bathroom? Can you maybe understand that one involves a matter of conscience and principles, while the other doesn't? You don't see a difference? Come on - no one is that ignorant! You really aren't advancing your point of view very well with a comment like that!
honestly, I know this sounds cold, but there is not a difference. We all have the choice to perform or not to. Abortion is played out so bad as a "murder". My first girlfriend and I decided to have an abortion at 6 weeks. We both know that was the right decision. If the doctor would have wussed out on us, it would have been pretty awkward, since that is part of his job duties. If he didn't want to help us out, he could have decided to work somewhere else where abortion was not an option.
Thank you for your honesty. I am dumbfounded by your thought process. An unborn baby is a living human being, from the moment of conception - by any scientific, biological definition. Therefore, killing an innocent human being is murder. Despite your aversion to a possible "awkward" moment, forcing doctors to commit murder against their consciences is tyranny - whether you agree with their beliefs or not. Unfortunately, there are plenty of willing doctors that you can go to.
well, we can argue all day on whether "unborn" is the same as "alive". Regardless, nobody is going to put a gun to a doctor or nurses head and force them to perform an abortion. It they don't want to do it, they'll find another job or sector of medicine. We all have to come to terms that hospitals, churches.. etc. are all businesses and should be left alone by the government because, "thank god", we are capitalists in this country.
thats a great argument, i like kaniesha better. and the catholicorgan, they do have a right to say no, everyone in the medical will still have that right. but if you work at an abortion clinic, and you don't want to give the gift of an abortion, you'll be fired.
I Do Support This Video!!! I For One Do Not Want My TAX DOLLARS To PAY For Someones Elses ABORTION. These People Have A Right To Say No To Performing An Abortion that Kills A Human Life!!!
To force doctors, nurses to violate their oath, to not administer any deadly drug, to do no harm, is an abomination against humanity. Doctors, nurses, all that are in the health care profession, deserve the highest respect and honor.
I was to be aborted as per my father's request and saved by my Mother.I have been a Registered nurse for 22 years, how many lives have I touched or saved by being alive ? BE HEARD !!!!!!

This is exactly why I keep saying they are not pro "choice" they are pro ABORTION.

i am 100% pro-choice, but i have no problem with of a person being able to avoid taking part in an abortion. nothing unreasonable about that. i would hope that if an abortion was taking place, and something goes wrong during the procedure, and the woman is in peril... people of such convictions would do anything they could to help the woman. to not do so would be contemptable and hypocritical. but i don't think people should be required to be part of the procedure itself.

So does everything with a side-effect, you retard. :P
Should we outlaw chemotherapy?
Perrine234 2 years ago

If a busboy will clean the dishes but cleaning the bathrooms makes him uncomfortable, he gets fired, same with any other job.
pmclen 2 years ago
Do you think that perhaps being directed to kill a human being may be a bit different than being directed to clean a bathroom? Can you maybe understand that one involves a matter of conscience and principles, while the other doesn't? You don't see a difference? Come on - no one is that ignorant! You really aren't advancing your point of view very well with a comment like that!
kaniesha1996 2 years ago
honestly, I know this sounds cold, but there is not a difference.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of willing doctors that you can go to.
kaniesha1996 2 years ago 16
well, we can argue all day on whether "unborn" is the same as "alive".

I wish you could be fired as a responsible human being considering you didn't want to perform certain aspects of YOUR 'duties'.
jlyn723 2 years ago 3
thats a great argument, i like kaniesha better. and the catholicorgan, they do have a right to say no, everyone in the medical will still have that right. but if you work at an abortion clinic, and you don't want to give the gift of an abortion, you'll be fired.

To force doctors, nurses to violate their oath, to not administer any deadly drug, to do no harm, is an abomination against humanity. Doctors, nurses, all that are in the health care profession, deserve the highest respect and honor.
