  • Holy shit.

  • Tolkien would have loved this.

  • You know when you read a book by Tolkien, and you get to a part where some character sings a song, and you feel really awkward reading it because you have no idea what melody the words go to? From now on, I'm going to sing the songs in my head to the Godfather theme =)

  • Thumbs up if your are tired of people thinking elvish is a language when its actually a language family group

Elvish is just like European, many languages spoken by 1 race

  • love it! :-D

  • You are raping the classiiiic!!!!

  • It is a good idea and your voice is nice, but you sound off tone sometimes

  • HAhahaha. You're awesome. Nice voice as well!

    Totally made my day

  • @JohnRaptor Thank you! :-)

  • Wow this is great. You're right, the words do flow rather well with The Godfather theme.

  • @wayne62682 I'm glad you like it. The connection is marvelous, isn't it. :-)

  • Okay, Speak Softly Love is my FAVORITE song and I just starting Elvish and this is the perfect birth of both. Thank you! How did you learn this.

  • @callmetricia You are most welcome! Discovering the combination was serendipitous. I suddenly realized that this tune (one of my favourites, if not the favourite) and the most famous (and best) Quenya poem fit together. I learned Elvish from Ardalambion (folk.uib.no/hnohf/); I know Namárie by heart.

  • Oh, darn, sorry I missed it heh... Hanta lye (?) =')

and wow, I stumbled upon your video on your Master's Thesis... althought it might need some audio fixing. Maybe I could tweak it a bit if you'd like? I'm sure Tolkien fans and academics would find it helpful =')

  • @Shadoufang Hantanyel! You are free to tweak it, for sure. :-)

  • @ondotambaro - great! sounds almost like the original.. it has the same feeling! BTW, have you noticed the similarity between the Godfather theme and the Elves theme when they arrive at Helm's Deep.. it's scary!

  • Mite sä oot oppinu puhumaa Quenyaa? :O

  • @Scealic93 folk.uib.no/hnohf/

  • lol amazing work!

  • @friendryfire Thanks!

  • @Sirgilwen Thank you! Yes, I'm going to make an album this spring and summer. I'll make it available at Lulu and/or some other self-publishing site (don't know much about them, though).

  • Petri Tikka, you are a wonderlful singer. I wish I knew as much elvish.

  • thank you for the translation.

  • You're a hero :O

  • mae govannen^^

  • I just wish there were subtitles (English and Quenya). Otherwise great enough ='D and I like the voice... congratulations!

  • Thank you! The subtitles are there on the bottom right corner. Just choose Quenya or English.

  • @ondotambaro YESSS! Thank you ='D I was just hoping for Quenya subs, you even added English. Props to you Elvish sir! ;')

  • @Shadoufang You're welcome! But don't thank me so much, all of the subtitles were there since I put the video on YouTube. :-)

  • In my opinion, the Godfather theme doesn't suit Elves very well. I don't think it sounds like something they would compose I find it too powerful and lacking gentleness. That's just my opinion, however. Also, it's hard for me to judge the performance, since the quality of the recording is quite low.

  • I'm happy to hear your opinion, especially as you state your criticism in an appropriate tone. That is rare on YouTube. I'd say the Elves are a rather powerful people, not only gentle. They can also be quite proud, as seen in the Silmarillion. I'd especially point out the story of Feanor and his family, leading to the fall of the High-Elves.

  • Note also that the Godfather theme is coposed by an Italian, and the intonation of Quenya is inspired by that language. The theme has been been given romantic lyrics in Godfather 3, so it is not inherently a "violent" theme.

  • I understand. Nevertheless I can't shake the feeling that the tune isn't appropriate. I guess we can't agree upon that. I think your voice has something to do with my reaction. It's beautiful, but in my opinion it sounds too operatic. I imagine Elvish singing as more natural.

  • Yeah, I understand your point of view as well. You have to forgive me for my operatic voice: my father is an opera conductor. ;-)

  • god damnit, very nice O.o

i love quenya, im learning it btm but im not very good at it right now :D

  • Man, this is actually brilliant. Not to mention you have a nice voice.

  • you rule!

  • i love this......fits well. Congratulations...

  • Kaunista! Tervehdys Puolasta.

  • Kiitoksia! Tervehdys Suomesta. :-)

  • omg... aweseome! lol

it's the first time that i heard a song that fits the lyrics!

  • Brilliant idea to combine Namárië with Godfather's theme.

  • äh, Koivu ja tähti :´-O, viish siitä

  • Another work of Elvish Art! Saved it in my favorites and yes, you have a gift. You really need to make a CD with your rich voice!!!!!! What more can I write, your fan club is here in Revere! X's and O's! Would love to have been there while you made this video, wonder what your family and friends were thinking? That would also make a great video, their reactions to you sing in Elvish....Awesome!

  • ...and I can hear that your finnish origin fits it perfectly. I bet Tolkien would have liked it (though I don't know regarding the film footage)! :D

  • Who knows. Tolkien was a Catholic, the Corleones are also.. Similar themes about the corruptiveness of power and the mystery of forgiveness.

  • True, but I thought more about the violence and corruption. But thinking again I might agree with you... middle-Earth is filled with that too.

  • Great voice!!!! ever practiced professionally??

  • Thanks! I've had some singing lessons.
