  • Dragknight represents someone who refuse to go along with the smoking crowd and not snoke, The dragons first trys to pressure the dragon to snow, eggs him on, and has the head dragon send his hunchmen to fight. He prevails because of their smoking. The head dragon challenges him and he prevails against the dragon, but he dies soon after that. The message of the psa is called. Don't start smoking it can cause lung cancer and other diseases. Tell them you don't smoke.

  • I don't know what's worse...smoking or art/architecture/animation from the 1960s and 1970s. Simply horrible. (But this has a good message, and is admittedly necessarily low budget.)

  • @Rationalific Actually, The animation is pretty good here in that it is "full animation" Full animation means that each frame is a different drawing instead of, say Yogi Bear, where The characters bodies are one drawing and the moving parts like the mouth are a separate cell. This movie looks like it was shot in this style on purpose because they were just being weird and artsy on purpose. The only reason animation is smoother now is that we farm out the artwork to sweatshop countries.

  • @drbotanus Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, and Mickey Mouse are also "full animation". And they were done in America and look a hell of a lot better than this. Now, everything is being sent to developing countries to cut costs, and I guess animation is no exception. But damn, sweatshop workers these days do a better job than Americans in the 1970s. Still, yeah, props for full animation. Not every corner was cut. And again, I understand that this was very low budget at that.

  • @drbotanus Part 2: I just looked at the first 5 seconds of this video, and it's 3 frames of an arm (of another shade of green from the body, meaning that it's its own frame, and not of the same frame as the body) tossing a ball into the air, and one frame of eyes blinking. So where did you pull this "full animation" stuff from?

  • 4th part of my post : ...message of this cartoon is : "SMOKING KILLS!!! Don`t smoke, dear children!" It was not meant to be racist at all. Sure, that line about turning yellow was not exactly a lucky choice of the writer but PLEASE! Stop being so paranoid, people! Don`t look for racism everywhere! By the way, what do you like more? Chocolate or vanilla ice cream? A hotdog with ketchup or rather with mustard? If you don`t dare to answer that honestly, there`s something wrong with this society.

  • 3rd part of my post : ...I come to the conclusion that all this racist-cartoon-theory is bullshit. The green colour of dragons is just a fairytale stereotype or maybe a symbol of nature, life and health. The red colour symbolizes fire or hell. The yellow colour as the typical colour of hepatitis and of ill and dead (white) people was (in this particular case) meant to symbolize (surprisingly) the effects of smoking - yellowing of teeth, nails and (sometimes also) skin. That`s all. The only ...

  • @TaToHaluz

I think it is hilarious that you wrote all this.

I was just joking when I said it was racist. I dont think its racist at all.

I just wanted to see who would respond to that absurd statement.

  • @drbotanus You have spoiled my big dramatic ending :).

  • 2nd part of my post : The reddie regrets his actions at the end and the greenies regret him. Moreover, the reddie has an apparent relationship with a greenie which is generally accepted by the group. Now, one of the key lines of the hero "Nicotine has turned you yellow, fellow." can be seen as anti-Asian (that`s the biggest racism of this cartoon, in my opinion). But the final twist is yet to come - all the greenies turn to yellowees - the yellow race wins. Considering all these facts, ...

  • 1st part of my post : It can be seen as a racism on many levels. The red dragon could be Indian (more likely) or black. The green dragons could be white. However, both the reddie and the greenies are presented as complex developing characters, not simply as a bad guy and his stupid victims. The greenies worship the reddie and bully the non-smoking hero (of their own colour) at first. The hero beats the reddie and becomes a leader of the group after the health problems of all the others begin.

  • Way to generalize dragons as a bunch of chain smokers, thats some BS.

  • Last time I saw this was 1988. It was required watching in my Kindergarten class.

  • Anyone think that this is a little racist.

  • no. unless you think the red dragon was a nigga!

  • The back ground music was also used on the 1967-69

    Spiderman show.
