Wouldn't it have been entirely tolerable for McCain to have said "look, I'm the foreign policy guy on this ticket, her strengths play to my weaknesses which I acknowledge having, and vice versa" rather than the skewed logic of "alaskan=oil=engergy independence=foreign policy"?
