when playing drums to a song, do u guys recommend using headphones or inner-ear earphones?

headphones. thats what i use. they dont get damaged from having the volume up high to hear the drums the way the inner ear phones do.

The point is, Im using high end closed headphone (studio headphones actually) so I don't even need to have the volume very high. Anyway, whatever headphones you use, they are better than earphones cause they also protect your ears a lot better.

i'm planning to get a pair of AKGs but i cant afford expensive ones so im thinking of AKG 121, but im not sure if it has enough isolation to use it for drumming.

do you have any recommendation?

my budget will be up to $120

Yes you are ;) best headphones I ve ever had so far. They are very neutral, comfortable and so light! Just put the headphones on, settle the ear-pads around your ears, and you're done. They stay where they're put more than well enough, and they don't clamp your head unduly either. Besides, when they're not on your head, the switch is off, the K 271s also have a plug-in cable which is pretty handy.
