@feonor26 I have known of police officers that have been beaten up by suspects because the officers didn't take them too seriously. The officers kept beating King because they thought that he was still a threat. I have seen drivers being roughly manhandled after high speed chases end in the driver suspect crashing his car. Police are veterans to conflicts, and they don't take confrontations very lightly. Tell your story to police killed in the line of duty.

Instead of beating him bloody with clubs, they should have overpowered him and put handcuffs on him. This is not the only example of extreme police brutality I've seen, but these days it's easier to pull out a taser instead of breaking a sweat with the baton.

It was reported that the taser didn't work, and the police tried to handcuff King, but he threw the officers off him. Tasers didn't calm him down, he was completely drunk, violent, and on drugs. what the police officers did was necessary. There was a story on about a man in a wheelchair and the police ordered him to get out of the chair and put his hands on the wall. He couldn't. The officer pushed him out of his chair. As the man was falling he grabbed for something to catch on to. He grabbed the officer. The officer beat him and filed assault. He now has an assault charge on his record.

I agree that some use of force was necessary. However, what these officers did went beyond what is considered reasonable. If Rodney King was such a threat, and he put up such a tremendous battle, why is it not one of the officers listed any injuries to themselves nor checked into a hospital. Not one of them received a bruise or scratch from Rodney King. I'm in no way a fan of Rodney King, but this clearly was an excessive use of police force. The Simi Valley got it wrong while LA got it right.

The probably saw it in a very different light because they saw the ENTIRE video (not just the same 20 seconds that the news kept showing) and they heard testimony from people who were THERE and in the conflict in the moment. Unless you're there and going through it personally, you don't know.

@RichieEastside If someone is beating you, you are not just going to sit there and take it. The human body doesn't work that way. The job of a police officer is to neutralize the threat while being lawful himself. You saying if he would have just complied everything would have been cool is not a good defense. What if he was deaf, slow, or just plain drunk? That means he is unable to comply, so as an officer you take him down and put the cuffs on him...that's it.

This drug makes him more or less immune to pain...he is also a pretty big guy, the cops feared for their safety and were probably trying to knock him out. Being drunk or otherwise intoxicated is not a good enough excuse for putting police officers in the position of having to fear for their own safety or their lives and this is the result. I suggest you look up what PCP does to a person, might give u some idea of why.

There is NO WAY IN HELL the cops felt fear for their own lives. They out numbered him, he had no weapon, he was on the ground. No one even made an attempt to hold him down and put the hand cuffs on him. Just imagine that was your mom or brother and maybe you will see it from a different view.

King was drunk driving and sparked a car chase at speeds of over 100 mph...because he didn't want to get caught for violating his parole for robbery. He was highly volatile and aggressive when he was finally caught by police, causing them to respond boldly in order to apprehend him.

@feonor26 I have known of police officers that have been beaten up by suspects because the officers didn't take them too seriously. The officers kept beating King because they thought that he was still a threat. I have seen drivers being roughly manhandled after high speed chases end in the driver suspect crashing his car. Police are veterans to conflicts, and they don't take confrontations very lightly. Tell your story to police killed in the line of duty.

There was a story on about a man in a wheelchair and the police ordered him to get out of the chair and put his hands on the wall. He couldn't. The officer pushed him out of his chair. As the man was falling he grabbed for something to catch on to. He grabbed the officer. The officer beat him and filed assault. He now has an assault charge on his record.

I agree that some use of force was necessary. However, what these officers did went beyond what is considered reasonable. If Rodney King was such a threat, and he put up such a tremendous battle, why is it not one of the officers listed any injuries to themselves nor checked into a hospital. Not one of them received a bruise or scratch from Rodney King. I'm in no way a fan of Rodney King, but this clearly was an excessive use of police force. The Simi Valley got it wrong while LA got it right.

I do agree though that towards the end (the 20 or so seconds always shown on tv), the cops were probably just pummeling him out of frustration, and there's really no excuse for that...but if he'd just complied with their orders the first time, it would have been avoided.

The job of a police officer is to neutralize the threat while being lawful himself. You saying if he would have just complied everything would have been cool is not a good defense. What if he was deaf, slow, or just plain drunk? That means he is unable to comply, so as an officer you take him down and put the cuffs on him...that's it.

This drug makes him more or less immune to pain...he is also a pretty big guy, the cops feared for their safety and were probably trying to knock him out. Being drunk or otherwise intoxicated is not a good enough excuse for putting police officers in the position of having to fear for their own safety or their lives and this is the result. I suggest you look up what PCP does to a person, might give u some idea of why.

Yes, I believe Rodney King was resisting arrest. Yes, I believe that the other officers were only trying to arrest Rodney King. However, I believe that Officer Powell (the officer at 1:00 swinging the bat) should not have been acquitted. He almost hit King in the neck, and he could've easily paralyzed King from striking him in a neck. WAY too excessive force

Im all for police having the power to take the appropriate action to subdue an out of control suspect but,........what if this person was the female jurors son , would she feel the same way?? there are too many officers at this scen not to be able to control one person. And as you see now days, nearly every police department have had their officers re-trained on how to deal with this sistuation...THUS...proving the jurors decision was wrong!!!

I think these jurors were either threatened or plain racist. Anyone watching this video can see EVERY ONE of the cops who were on the scene were clearly out of line.
