the socket is located in the corner of the ipod. you just slip the battery ribbon cable into the socket. you can push the select button right after you install the battery without closing the cover to see if it turns on to see if you installed the battery right.

A bit fiddly, but atleast you got it in the end.

Next time, try to not 'twist' the pry tool, instead use a gentle small crow-bar movement.

The extra pressure applied might've been why the screen was damaged (you don't need to apply much pressure at all, just enough to 'click' out the little flaps).

yeh, When I took apart the original ipod I did not have the pry tools, only a flat blade screwdriver and ended up snaping off the flaps. I did read a review somewhere that said that 5th gen ipods do not come apart easily, they blamed it on a Apple scurity measure!? but if you have the right tools then its a different story
