7:24 I don't think Nc5 was that bad, open up the diagonal for his bishop, while setting up Nc4, even though he doesn't choose to take advantage of it. Nc5 does prevent a5, however, and relieves the pressure on d5 / if Nf5, Qb6 is also an option
Why Fischer is a genius ? Because his game looks very clear and simple ,and when u try to copy him ... it doesn't work until u're 2500-2600 at last lol
@samyhere1 i was wondering the same till i saw Nf8 for black which covers it. Hard for white to dislodge the knight on f8 without his dark-squared bishop and hard too for white to bring more pieces to bear on h7
because then white bishop would take black knight at h7 then black queen would take white bishop at h7 then white queen would take pawn on e6 with check and there is no option for black to defend the black knight wich is being attack by the check move
10:50 moving the rook to that square at least let his bishop into a more aggressive position... had the rook stayed there the whole game, it wouldn't have had a chance to get out
You can tell listening to your commentaries that you don't completely know what's going on. You might try checking out some of the commentaries by Kingscrusher for examples of what you could do better. He's a much stronger player, but you would still be well served to improve your analysis.
at 15:34 if black plays ...f6 attacking white's queen instead of exchanging pieces (both the rooks and bishop), does this help or hurt black's defenses?
It definitely could have been a weakness but, at some point much before Fischer's kingside onslaught, he should have played it to give the rooks and queen a clear horizontal to ward off him off.
I'd say all in all it was hopeless because he spend way too much time making irrelevant moves on the queenside and didn't have the mobile to fight back.
@15.06... after white moves the queen, wat if the black had moved his f7 pawn to f6? black has 3 attackers on f6 square. even f white takes with pawn on e5, black can cpture with his bishop adn kickoff whites queen?
@killergoku56 I might be mistaken but white can then play Bxh7+. The black king cannot retake because of the white queen and if the black retakes with Qxh7, then Bobby Fischer can play the nice move of Qxe7+, forking the king and knight and pulling ahead in material. If black does not recapture and moves his king somewhere else, white can pull his queen away and is up by 2 pawns in material.
@killergoku56 After Qg7, White can play Nh5, not only bringing the knight in to the game but attacking the queen. Black then has to waste a move moving the queen away allowing Fischer to play Nf6+ or some other attacking move.
Ok call him "GM" but the constant "BobbyFischer" thing is annoying. I want to focus on the chess, just trying to help, and his chess speaks for itself he needed nor needs nothing from anyone.
really like the direct explanations. a lot of other commentators say the best moves but dont say why, or only give you a foggy idea that leaves you a bit confused. definately what amature players look for, not "but black/white could however.." and not tell u how to respond to a branch off. eddie bravo stuff right here ;d
If Fischer takes that knight and black moves the queen in front of the king what's stopping Fischer from taking the queen that's protected by his knight on G5 and ending the game right then?
@gordieorr you talking about 19:37? Because he wouldn't have moved his queen in front of the king. The knight on H5 would just take it like you said. Panno would have moved his king to F8. If the king is on F8 Fischer wouldn't have any strong attacking moves.
@shirshakbt He is also playing against Bobby Fischer so its not like hes playing some regular player. At this time Fischer was worlds ahead of any player playing the game. He was like Houdini vs. Grandmasters. Its a lost cause.
18:42 best move for black...is Qg7 then Ne7 for black wants to win the game..........im not the best in chess but i would say "Go Disable the SYSTEM"....
@PhilipMe17 ...Qg7 is not the best move. White would just reply with Bxh7+ and black could reply with Qxh7 or Kf8. If black does ...Qxh7 then white could just do Qxe6+ forking the knight at c8 giving white a free pawn.
I really like your videos, you do an amazing job not only explaining what happened but what could have happened. I believe that's what sets you apart from others as that's what many people wonder in chess what could have been done differently.

i personally thought Panno was playing quite silly. Toward the end he definitely should have put his queen right in front of his king, offering a queen trade, he was up in material. Also he should have pushed his pawn forward knocking the e5 pawn off and at the same time opening up a file for his rook, he let that pawn own that vital post the whole game

@aro327 Because black would lose both Knights in the process. BxH7+, QxH7 / QxE6+ and forks the remaining Knight trading one Bishop for both Knights.

If Fischer moves his Knight at f3 he lefts his d4 pawn unprotected under the attack of the queen that easily can enter trough the great defence that Fischer has, and the treat of the knight can easily be defended by Nf6.
to develop your minor pieces toward the center." I disagree, the point of the opening is to create favorable imbalances in the position in which you can use in the middle-game. openings and gambits are specifically designed to accomplish this.
i'm not familiar with chess enough, i can only play it in a basic level. how do they do it in professional matches: do they document every single steps of theirs?
the real point of Bf4 i think from my point of view is to target the big weakness at d6 because black put away the black square bishop from the diagonal f8-a3
Analizing the play at 18:30 on black turn after white pawn is moved, i wonder why panno didnt move the pawn to E4- taking the bishop as the queen now guards the "outpost" in F6 for the white knight, the black queen woud then be shielded by the white pawn at G6 from the white queen. I believe this woud give black a chance to stop the white attack and reorganize the white bishop to D3. Any comments are appretiated.
you are like the color commentator on sports shows that doesn't really understand what's going on at any deep level. Why do you do this? Why won't you let others who really understand the game comment?
after the dark square bishops were exchanged and white had pushed d4 pawn to d5, black cud hv moved white bishop to d3 and then take support of d5 pawn.
b3 was actually to prevent Nc4 which would be an aweasome outpost for the knight...and the Na5 was to allow the move b5 since the bishop would now defend the ´pawn from the white knight...black has to attack on the queen side since the middle is closed and on the king side he has no opportunities
@JohnQuincyAdams1 ofcourse they are which makes them so good but pick up any game and in hindsight u can tell it was always a mistake tht lost the game not particularly a brilliant play tht won it
@MrNoobthenub - I've been playing chess professionally for over 30 years, I've gone over thousands of Grandmaster games and it is very unusual to find one of these games where an actual mistake/blunder was made. Grandmasters don't do that very often, which is why the are the best of the best.
@JohnQuincyAdams1 I think Its hilarious how long you took writing this sentence but the spelling and grammar on all your comments on sc2 and runescape are so poorly written they make you seem no older then 12.
@JessicaAngel22 - I beg your pardon? Spelling? Grammar? SC2? Runescape? Never heard of them. My spelling and grammar are just fine, thank you. Further, what does this have to do with this chess forum. Nothing. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Thank you.
If Fischer hadn't been such a whiny bitch in Iceland, then Spassky would have won. But I respect Spassky for being the well-mannered sportsman that Fischer is not.
@bertlsantos Fischer used under-handed tactics to beat him the first time, because he was afraid. only a call from a Brit who was willing to pay him his money (which is all he had ever cared about) he finally went.
Enter Fischer the drama queen, vs. Spassky the sportsman, uncommon in the chess world and even less common among Soviets.
And in '92, Spassky was an old man, who was well past his prime, and the games he and Fischer played were for the most part, un-inspiring.
Bobby fisher is too good! Panno did amazing too ;D

At 15:53 instead of pawn h4-h5 shouldn't he play Nf3-g5?It's checkmate in 3 moves!!(Then Q takes on g7 and f7)
city12chania 11 months ago
@city12chania
If Fischer moves his Knight at f3 he lefts his d4 pawn unprotected under the attack of the queen that easily can enter trough the great defence that Fischer has, and the treat of the knight can easily be defended by Nf6.

King's Indian Attack is my Favorite opening, allows me to use my Knight pretty early.

31. ...Qg7 instead of Ng5, what happens then? I just do not get Bobbies threat, I guess!?

@chesswebsite you said " you always want
to develop your minor pieces toward the center." I disagree, the point of the opening is to create favorable imbalances in the position in which you can use in the middle-game. openings and gambits are specifically designed to accomplish this.

i'm not familiar with chess enough, i can only play it in a basic level. how do they do it in professional matches: do they document every single steps of theirs?
bercziiiib 1 year ago
@bercziiiib they need a opening that suits their style, just develop and the rest is on their tactics

the real point of Bf4 i think from my point of view is to target the big weakness at d6 because black put away the black square bishop from the diagonal f8-a3

it was game over at white knight to g3, when the exchange was refused

I like the final sentence : "Bobby Fisher never really looks for the obvious moves, he looks for the best moves."

Why won't you let others who really understand the game comment?

why doesnt anyone post some videos where bobby loses
johnmrrs 1 year ago
after the dark square bishops were exchanged and white had pushed d4 pawn to d5, black cud hv moved white bishop to d3 and then take support of d5 pawn.

Can you please just say "Fischer" instead of "Bobby Fischer" in the future? It just gets so annoying.
"Bobby Fischer... Bobby Fischer... Bobby Fischer.........."

Sure wish you'd talk less. At least stop saying "obviously" and "at the same time" so often.

Na5 was just made to allow Bb5, putting some pressure as you said but maybe he didnt consider the loss of time it eventually brought.
nicocola1 1 year ago
b3 was actually to prevent Nc4 which would be an aweasome outpost for the knight...and the Na5 was to allow the move b5 since the bishop would now defend the ´pawn from the white knight...black has to attack on the queen side since the middle is closed and on the king side he has no opportunities

when it comes down to it its really the guy who makes more mistakes who loses
MrNoobthenub 1 year ago
@MrNoobthenub - At Grandmaster level chess, (such as this game), mistakes/blunders are rare.
JohnQuincyAdams1 1 year ago 4
@JohnQuincyAdams1 ofcourse they are which makes them so good but pick up any game and in hindsight u can tell it was always a mistake tht lost the game not particularly a brilliant play tht won it
MrNoobthenub 1 year ago
@MrNoobthenub - I've been playing chess professionally for over 30 years, I've gone over thousands of Grandmaster games and it is very unusual to find one of these games where an actual mistake/blunder was made. Grandmasters don't do that very often, which is why the are the best of the best.

@JohnQuincyAdams1 I think Its hilarious how long you took writing this sentence but the spelling and grammar on all your comments on sc2 and runescape are so poorly written they make you seem no older then 12.
JessicaAngel22 1 year ago
@JessicaAngel22 - I beg your pardon? Spelling? Grammar? SC2? Runescape? Never heard of them. My spelling and grammar are just fine, thank you. Further, what does this have to do with this chess forum. Nothing. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Thank you.

Spassky was such a better player than Fischer.
If Fischer hadn't been such a whiny bitch in Iceland, then Spassky would have won. But I respect Spassky for being the well-mannered sportsman that Fischer is not.
KingThorn00 10 months ago
@KingThorn00 - baloney .... twice beaten by Fischer, so how can he be a better player. You are really a thorn king .... wake up, bum!
bertlsantos 10 months ago
@bertlsantos Fischer used under-handed tactics to beat him the first time, because he was afraid. only a call from a Brit who was willing to pay him his money (which is all he had ever cared about) he finally went.
Enter Fischer the drama queen, vs. Spassky the sportsman, uncommon in the chess world and even less common among Soviets.
And in '92, Spassky was an old man, who was well past his prime, and the games he and Fischer played were for the most part, un-inspiring.
