mine came shaving sharp out the box, stropped with green compound like 6 strokes each side and it cuts wet paper towel clean O_o dunno what trouble nutnfancy had :D
@LWRCftw this is slimmer, lighter and much easier to withdraw from a pocket than cold steel.. elegant looking and pretty damn strong with titanium frame and lockback (one of the strongest locks imo, probably not as good as triad but close) 440C with a good heat treatment is on the same ballpark as AUS-8 with more rust resistance, better edge retention but a tiny bit more difficult to get a razor edge on. I got most cold steels and not a fan of boker, but I have this knife and love it :D
How about the laws in the USA & Canada for carrying a knife? In Australia it could wind you up in serious hot water with the law. For this reason I have a Leatherman that I carry in the car & when I'm out camping or travelling about in the bush I have it on my belt as I can justify it to the authorities if questioned. It's very handy with it's multiple tools and good quality BUT.........heavy as.
@Kylef7735 - I confess to having to 'google' Idk. For a while there I was scratching my head. But all sorted now. I'm not a fan of State to State Laws but I guess there's a reason for it. I'd hate to cross the border and find that what is legal in 90% of States now has me in bother with the cops. Some cops use their common sense and I swear some have none.
@BelloBudo007 Sorry about that man, ill try to keep my acronyms to a minimum.

Awesome review! Thanks...Blade says "china" where meets handle on 2:56 when you were describing jimping (or lack thereof), to answer your "where's it made" question you posed during review... thanks again, Rob
This video made my day, i have a Boker (sorry i don't care for the dots over the o) Magnum (the american branch) that i scored for $20 at Bass Pro Shop or a year ago and it has NOT lived up to expectation. Blade dulls fast and is chisel so you need to go out of your way to sharpen, and the pivot screw is loose/ doesn't stay tight. Mines the Piranha model. Great review Nutnfancy!
0:47 i have a knife that is exactly like that orange EMT one... i'm not sure if it is boker though, I got it on ebay for like $8-10... Is boker a cheap brand?
i dont have very many good EDC knives. im 19 and in the US army and dont have a lot of money, so bang for the buck, im torn between this and the spyderco tenacious. what would you recommend?
Interesting. I've had some decent...DECENT!...Smith & Wesson 440C blades. Its huge Homeland Security Tanto is a pry bar, but sharpen it sometime! It actually holds an edge. But Boker -- forget it. You can't ever get the blade sharp. Even its 440A Magnum knives are duller than soap.
Boker should have the reputation of S&W and in some cases worse. Having owned a couple, keep the titanium. This is a beautiful knife, though. It would be a great letter opener!
@MuzzleBlast357 Böker sells knives of (very) different qualities. Böker Magnum, Böker Plus, Böker Manufaktur, Böker Arbolito ... The Magnum knives are usual the inexpensive ones.
I'm seeing a lot of anti China comments on this review.
Good
I hope the manufactures (just the American ones) pay attention and if they don't bring the back to the states then perhaps they could at least have the work done in a country that is actually a friend and ally of America.
My goal from now on is not to buy any more Chinese made knives even if some (like Kershaw) do a great job. I've got the Volt II and OSO Sweet because I didn't do my research when picking gifts last year
Beautiful knife and another great review...At 4:48, it looks like the edge is slightly rolled over...might be why you had some trouble getting it sharp. Do you use a strop or piece of wood to finish your softer bladed knives?
+1 to a Boker Catalog review. Nutn, there are some seriously great value blades I wish you'd take a look at. Boker Vox Rold, Boker Vox Rhino, and Boker Plus Clip (Pardue design).
What is it with all this China hate?lol Do you guys really believe that all things made in China are crap? If you do, you are deluding yourselves I have to say. Perhaps I shouldn't be on their supporting side since I'm brazilian and the chinese are taking over Brazil with their products, but China's competitiveness can't be all down to cheap labour and bad materials can it?
@nutnfancy Im borrowing a computer for now, gotta get some money for a replacement screen. No matter what i will have a replacement end of june.
(Im gonna be working at a buddy of mines firework stand (Here on youtube Hissatsu5/Camokid1ss they are brothers) so by then i will be fully back online.
@richardmilk I can't speak for everyone here but I don't believe that everything made in China is crap. I'm very sure that they make some very good products and the kershaw knives are just one example. Of course I wouldn't buy any Chinese made baby toys. I'm kind of picky about lead.
I personally try to buy American or at least from our friends. The Chinese aren't our friends they are trading partners and if you believe that patents have meaning then they are also thieves.
Nutn, I bought this knife after watching your review. I have to thank you for recommending it. After carrying it and playing with it a lot, I am in love with it. The titanium handle is mind-blowing in it's strength AND looks. Feels light enough to edc. The blade shape is useful for lots of edc tasks. I had to do my own review, not because I could do it nearly as well as you did it, but because I wanted to post my own passion for it. Thanks for turning me on to it.
I also have a boker. its a subcom. i use it for edc if i dont want to whip out the larger edc folder that i cary larger knives usually freak people out so i tend to avoid using it if i can. One thing i hate about boker is that there are a lot of FAKES out there.
As far as I know Boker Magnum and Boker plus are made in China. Boker Arbolito is made in Argentina and those of Solingen are the only ones made in Germany.
China! ouch but pass, nice knife for sure, but buying china made stuff is a lot like slitting your own wrists in a long run. buy American or australian or european.
@WoodenChicken1 WoodenChicken lives...great to have you back dude. Honestly the ten minute format is a 50/50 split on love/hate from TNPrs. I am leaning towards these short formats though. Just not a lot of time for any sidetracks though...of any kind.
@nutnfancy LOL, I never left bro. It's just that you've hit the big numbers of subscribers--no time for us little guys. Just kidding buddy, I think between 10 and 15 minutes are my favorite times for your knife reviews. No matter what, keep doing your thing. It's the information that makes you who/what you are. Peace.
my boker plus g4 came super dull and after much work it did not get much better. i dont think its actually 440c at all. maybe the chinese company lied to boker. seems too soft. a pro had to sharpen it for me. and he did it twice before he was happy. maybe can we havfe an in depth investigation of this so called 440c from boker plus. yes we want a catalog review.
@PavlovSandor Excellent commentary and you might have something there. This knife's edge took a bit of work to get it right. Thanks for the input (everyone) on the catalog review.
@nutnfancy Please do a review on one of the boker Ceramic blades. I want to get one but have no idea as to how a ceramic blade perfoms or lasts or sharpens. Please trial one and post it.
It will be broken on your first outing with it. Nothing made in China is quality, nothing... also there are plenty of comparable american made knives that are way better value and keep jobs in the US
See Boker BO004 -- Same overall length. THREE ounces. Full thick blued titanium liners under against brown bog oak scales. Simplified inutitive one hand opening system that every MFR ought to outright steal. And the best gimping in the bidness. Only ten bucks more.
The knife you don't like are made in China of the cheap Böker devision called "Magnum". Leave these knives alone lol they are not even worth mentioning. Those knives are throw away pieces you don't cry about if it gets lost.
Only the devisions Böker Plus, Böker Arbolito (made in Argentina) and the original Böker knives made in Germany with the tree symbol have good/decent quality.
Yo Nutn! Try to email to Boker-USA and ask if its anything wrong with your knife. 440C shouldnt perform like that. Maybe its heat treatet wrong-I think they will sovle your problem with edge that stays dull:)
I could say my: "experience with S&W folder..." if it would not fall at first use. So I will stay on opinion that "I havent got experiences with S&W folders;)"
Problem is that I find S&W as a most copied/fake brand of knives on earth. When you add a "cheap folder" (not "afordable or "with good price to quality") idea of designer/maker and you get garbage like this:/
@CutleryNovice Also 440C isnt Chinese steel. European, American, Japan yes but not Chinese. 440C can have even 1,2% of carbon so if proper heat treated (or cryo treated) its get an superb cuttin edge comperable to those with premium steels!
@MrKansai1 Very correct, the Chinese version if 440C is actually 7CR17MOV (nearly identical) ,440C is my favorite steel because it's easy to sharpen, pretty good rust resistance and it holds an edge longer than AUS8 and other similar steels
@CutleryNovice 440C is also steel that recives finnest (of all steels avaliable) results from cryo hardening. There are custom knife makers that place it (440C-cryo) in their products just between S30V, S90V, D2, Elmax and Damast -example? Shirogorov:) IMO best treated 440C comes from Benchmade-sadly they dont use it as much as they used to few years ago...
@MrKansai1 Glad to see somebody else on YouTube who knows about steels,440C is also used by some custom makers because it takes a better polish than other steels,I have mixed feelings about Benchmade but they do make OUTSTANDING knives I'm just not a huge fan of some of their designs (Griptilian,Presidio,Ambush ect.) opposed to Spyderco designs like the Manix and Sage but that's just my personal preference.
@CutleryNovice HAHAHA:D Man I Love Ambush and 710-D2 :D So you like Spydies? My best friend likes them too. He used to say "Spiders eat those butterflys at breakfast;)" I think quality of Spyderco knives just beated Benchmades last years. Just check out how this Navaja is built...Awesom precision/quality!Earlier BM was best... but what can I say?, it wont stop my love to knives with butterfly;) Thaks for interesting conversation bro:) Keep up!
@MrKansai1 I think that the Spyderco Manix 2 was kind of a middle finger to the Benchmade 551HG,think about it they have the same grind, same steel, same size, same price, same clip placement and a similar locking mechanism, just my opinion lol,I do like the Benchmade Vex and Ares knives but sadly they were discontinued lol, some earlier Benchmades intrigue me a bit,the AFK is one of them, overall I'd say they are on par companies much like how CRKT and Gerber are on par and KaBar and Ontario are onpar
@CutleryNovice I heard about AFK thats it was a prototype prepered for Spyderco, but they didnt liked it so designer sold this project to Benchmade. Talkin about bigger knives with a hole I must say that I absolutely adore Spydeco Resiliance:) What a great piece of pure sickness this knife is:) Using it as a EDC knife a lot. I would also be glad to purchase Police SS but it has non reversible clip I think...
@imtheomegaman it removes ads within flash videos, also it blocks out ad banners from homepages. works very good for me. sometimes (very rare) an ad sneaks through, like 1 in 1.000
@Cr0cket20 Thats very old brand from Solingen-Germany. In Poland good knives from Solingen are known for about 100 years. Earlier (XVIII-XIXcentury) they were making swords and sabers. Sadly Im to young to tell you how those swords performed ;)
@Nutnfancy if you look at the underside of the blade on that knife right in front of the finger choil on the non sharpened part of the blade,I am pretty sure it said China. So I assume it is made in China. Actually look at frame 02:56 you can clearly see China etched. Well you have the Knife so I guess you can look at it. I heard you say you weren't sure where it was made so there you go. Keep up the great work, Love the reviews hope to see run and gun when you are ready!
I think you should ACTUALLY try out some of those knives that were referred to as "gimick" knives. Those little "turtle shell" blades that Boker makes DO have a place. They fit more neatly into some "Apparel Systems,,,," or rather,, Clothes. they also work for basically Anything that an EDC blade needs to do = basic tasks.
LETS SEE A REVIEW OF ONE OF THOSE LITTLE DUDES YOU "DISSED."
great review, btw the stainless, its made in china, caught that at 2:57 when you flipped it over IF ANY TNPER REMEMBERS THE KNIFE IM BOUT TO DESCRIBE PLEASE REPLY: I lost and would love to replace a 3.25 " kershaw i bought at lowes of all places a couple years ago and lost on a scout trip with my son (my fault not his) It had a partialy serrated belly and a green plastic handle with a intregal molded belt clip. Cheap too, sub $20 if I remember, just hoping somone can source it thanks
I'd LOVE to see 'reviews' of CATALOGS, I like a LOT OF OPINIONS on gear before I invest, friends, magazines, internet, youtube, etc (SCORED with that technique on the 'Gen.3' 930 SPX and 590A1, which should be here within a week!!! Why NOT have a bayonet mount on a scattergun, lol). It might be more of a 'niche' market, but I'LL be watching!! Love the knife, might have to pick one up.
Has anyone ever heard of a FIE TITAN 380? i cant find any videos on youtube about it, i purchesed one last sunday and im picking it up tomorrow and i dont know much about it, all i can find is a few fourems talking about it and a lot of people who own one say they love em and make a great night stand gun. But the company went out of business in 1990 and so i cant find any information on whats ok to shoot out of it and all that good stuff
Doubt in its abilities and reliability? Boker makes also ceramic folders-to do that they must have firm technical background, high quality standards and good infrastructure:)
I think this would be great for a POU that I've never heard you talk bout..........Food preparation, I've only heard you talk bout it in your that spyderco, the over sized tennacious. I always carry a small knife for that it has to be small, lightweight, and I like completely metal, don't care what kind makes it easy to clean up, the blade has to be rust resistance too
440C gets the job done, though it seems a shame to put 440c on that sweet looking titanium looker. I gravitated away from Boker years ago due to not being impressed with designs and admitted material snobbery on my part.
The DMT Aligner is a good sharpening system for people who aren't good at hand sharpening with benchstones. I started out with one when I wasn't that good at hand sharpening and get knives hair shaving sharp.
Regarding the edge retention: might be a matter of heat treatment. If not heat treated correctly the edge will have incorrect hardness.
I think it says "China" on the blade. Saw it at the beginning of the vidwhere he showed the liner.
Titanium sacrifices weight for thickness. Thermoplasts and composites will sacrifice thickness for weight. Aluminum is somewhere in between IMHO. A matter of preference and yes, titanium looks sick (have a titanium wrist watch, I love the tint).
I would say get the Sog Twitch II over this, very similar knife, similar price takes a good edge, and the aluminum body is nice, and it opens super fast making it just fun to play with
@Whisper6911 I got S&W BushHog Kukri and it cuts through steel sheets, old nails, screws and hardwood soo nice! And when it slow down I help him with hammer hit! I have cut down trees with trunks 30-50cm -diameter! Only duracoat dosnt look like new-I use it very hard for about 5-6 years;) S&W folders are crap but BushHog Kukri rocks!

How about the laws in the USA & Canada for carrying a knife? In Australia it could wind you up in serious hot water with the law. What are those knives at :47. I want a good rescue knife with seat belt cutter and glass breaker. And those look pretty decent ?

See Boker BO004 -- Same overall length. THREE ounces. Full thick blued titanium liners under against brown bog oak scales. Simplified inutitive one hand opening system that every MFR ought to outright steal. And the best gimping in the bidness. Only ten bucks more.

The knife you don't like are made in China of the cheap Böker devision called "Magnum". Leave these knives alone lol they are not even worth mentioning. Those knives are throw away pieces you don't cry about if it gets lost.
Only the devisions Böker Plus, Böker Arbolito (made in Argentina) and the original Böker knives made in Germany with the tree symbol have good/decent quality.
bfgguns 10 months ago
Yo Nutn! Try to email to Boker-USA and ask if its anything wrong with your knife. 440C shouldnt perform like that. Maybe its heat treatet wrong-I think they will sovle your problem with edge that stays dull:)
MrKansai1 10 months ago
I could say my: "experience with S&W folder..." if it would not fall at first use. So I will stay on opinion that "I havent got experiences with S&W folders;)"
Problem is that I find S&W as a most copied/fake brand of knives on earth. When you add a "cheap folder" (not "afordable or "with good price to quality") idea of designer/maker and you get garbage like this:/

440c and China made. $40 seems overpriced to me.
I am glad you are back to your standard knife reviews. Those are my favorite.
26point2madness 10 months ago
@26point2madness AUS8 by coldsteel, also made in china, can go up to 80 dollars. with a nice titanium handle, i consider this cheap.
xxkid123 10 months ago
@xxkid123 AUS-8A ad AUS-8 are Japanese and Taiwanese steels
CutleryNovice 10 months ago
@CutleryNovice Also 440C isnt Chinese steel. European, American, Japan yes but not Chinese. 440C can have even 1,2% of carbon so if proper heat treated (or cryo treated) its get an superb cuttin edge comperable to those with premium steels!
MrKansai1 10 months ago
@MrKansai1 Very correct, the Chinese version if 440C is actually 7CR17MOV (nearly identical) ,440C is my favorite steel because it's easy to sharpen, pretty good rust resistance and it holds an edge longer than AUS8 and other similar steels
CutleryNovice 10 months ago
@CutleryNovice 440C is also steel that recives finnest (of all steels avaliable) results from cryo hardening. There are custom knife makers that place it (440C-cryo) in their products just between S30V, S90V, D2, Elmax and Damast -example? Shirogorov:) IMO best treated 440C comes from Benchmade-sadly they dont use it as much as they used to few years ago...
MrKansai1 10 months ago
@MrKansai1 Glad to see somebody else on YouTube who knows about steels,440C is also used by some custom makers because it takes a better polish than other steels,I have mixed feelings about Benchmade but they do make OUTSTANDING knives I'm just not a huge fan of some of their designs (Griptilian,Presidio,Ambush ect.) opposed to Spyderco designs like the Manix and Sage but that's just my personal preference.
CutleryNovice 10 months ago
@CutleryNovice HAHAHA:D Man I Love Ambush and 710-D2 :D So you like Spydies? My best friend likes them too. He used to say "Spiders eat those butterflys at breakfast;)" I think quality of Spyderco knives just beated Benchmades last years. Just check out how this Navaja is built...Awesom precision/quality!Earlier BM was best... but what can I say?, it wont stop my love to knives with butterfly;) Thaks for interesting conversation bro:) Keep up!
MrKansai1 10 months ago
@MrKansai1 I think that the Spyderco Manix 2 was kind of a middle finger to the Benchmade 551HG,think about it they have the same grind, same steel, same size, same price, same clip placement and a similar locking mechanism, just my opinion lol,I do like the Benchmade Vex and Ares knives but sadly they were discontinued lol, some earlier Benchmades intrigue me a bit,the AFK is one of them, overall I'd say they are on par companies much like how CRKT and Gerber are on par and KaBar and Ontario are onpar
CutleryNovice 10 months ago
@CutleryNovice I heard about AFK thats it was a prototype prepered for Spyderco, but they didnt liked it so designer sold this project to Benchmade. Talkin about bigger knives with a hole I must say that I absolutely adore Spydeco Resiliance:) What a great piece of pure sickness this knife is:) Using it as a EDC knife a lot. I would also be glad to purchase Police SS but it has non reversible clip I think...

Cr0cket20 10 months ago
@Cr0cket20 Thats very old brand from Solingen-Germany. In Poland good knives from Solingen are known for about 100 years. Earlier (XVIII-XIXcentury) they were making swords and sabers. Sadly Im to young to tell you how those swords performed ;)

fisheral87 10 months ago
@Nutnfancy if you look at the underside of the blade on that knife right in front of the finger choil on the non sharpened part of the blade,I am pretty sure it said China. So I assume it is made in China. Actually look at frame 02:56 you can clearly see China etched. Well you have the Knife so I guess you can look at it. I heard you say you weren't sure where it was made so there you go. Keep up the great work, Love the reviews hope to see run and gun when you are ready!

XxFuNkYPaNdAxX 10 months ago

But the company went out of business in 1990 and so i cant find any information on whats ok to shoot out of it and all that good stuff

MrKansai1 10 months ago
Doubt in its abilities and reliability? Boker makes also ceramic folders-to do that they must have firm technical background, high quality standards and good infrastructure:)
MrKansai1 10 months ago
I think this would be great for a POU that I've never heard you talk bout..........Food preparation, I've only heard you talk bout it in your that spyderco, the over sized tennacious. I always carry a small knife for that it has to be small, lightweight, and I like completely metal, don't care what kind makes it easy to clean up, the blade has to be rust resistance too

MrSparten123 10 months ago
Price explanation:
-If it would have frame lock in titanium, it would be definately more expesive.Simple flat scales- they shouldnt be very pricey.
-Made in China-Tajland makers got knives in higher quality somehow..
-440C blade-great steel and relatively cheap, also in processing/treatment
-simple project- inexpesive to produce..Thats big PLUS:)
MrKansai1 10 months ago

440C gets the job done, though it seems a shame to put 440c on that sweet looking titanium looker. I gravitated away from Boker years ago due to not being impressed with designs and admitted material snobbery on my part.

Nutn, why do you like duracoat so much?
frank123612 10 months ago
Regarding the edge retention: might be a matter of heat treatment. If not heat treated correctly the edge will have incorrect hardness.
I think it says "China" on the blade. Saw it at the beginning of the vidwhere he showed the liner.
Titanium sacrifices weight for thickness. Thermoplasts and composites will sacrifice thickness for weight. Aluminum is somewhere in between IMHO. A matter of preference and yes, titanium looks sick (have a titanium wrist watch, I love the tint).

I would say get the Sog Twitch II over this, very similar knife, similar price takes a good edge, and the aluminum body is nice, and it opens super fast making it just fun to play with

uknow what we call a dull knife where i come from?
we call it: a stick.
Whisper6911 10 months ago
dude -10 points penaulty for speaking of smith & wesson as if they are making real knives.
anyways, wtf is the point of having a knife u cant keep sharp???
imo $40 is extremely expensive for a knife u can only use hard once, and then it becomes useles.
i normally like your reviews nutnfancy, but on this one you are breaking your own rules.
2nd type of cool is making u blind to the fact that a dull knife is a dead weight.
also: dont u normally use them before reviewing???
Whisper6911 10 months ago

@Whisper6911 I got S&W BushHog Kukri and it cuts through steel sheets, old nails, screws and hardwood soo nice! And when it slow down I help him with hammer hit! I have cut down trees with trunks 30-50cm -diameter! Only duracoat dosnt look like new-I use it very hard for about 5-6 years;) S&W folders are crap but BushHog Kukri rocks!
