@conversejunkie2222 As a Human and as a Teacher I couldn't believe The way he talks to some of his students in other youtube video's, Regardless of Cello Talent, Compare to YoyoMa. he is a 100% at teaching and not being a dooshe. Look up "masterclass video series on youtube and you will see what i'm talking about. the guy Lost all my respect when I saw him talking down to his students
@fishfrizbee really yo-yo is a great teacher? yo-yo is an amazing person and human, and obviously an incredible player, but i wouldnt say that until you take a masterclass from him. ive seen that he not at all a "100% teacher". Plus teachers like Starker and Isserlis are hard on students not because they are asshole, but because they seriously want the student to improve
again i must apologize for the bad sound quality - i just had a very low rez canon P&S with me - a truck was backing up outside ( beep beep beep ) and he says with mock disgust and dialing up his accent, "what was that ?!"
Ahhhh, Mr Isserlis. How I love thy music. I've always loved the cello, however more so after seeing his performance with the Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2003. He returns this year in August for a couple of shows with the ACO and I purchased my tickets a couple of months ago when released. No way I will want to miss seeing him again. My fave CD of his is the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto #1 - magic.
Why is there so much Isserlis hate? I think he's great! If it wasn't for him I would have never heard the mendelssohn sonatas or the faure sonatas for cello.
I've got all Isserlis and all Shafran recordings - although Isserlis was inspired by Shafran, my goodness, the playing is worlds apart. Shafran was great, but a bit limited to Russian music, whereas Isserlis is at home with everything he plays. VERY different playing. I love both, but the thing they do have in common is perhaps their love of great music. Copy? Take another listen. I wish you well.
how can you say that? Isserlis is one of the top 5 cellists of our day, who cares about what the music sounds like instead of how much money he gets for playing it
The comparison IMHO is not even close - apples and oranges ! Why put things so negatively - The world needs great music and if we have two ( and more )wonderfully diverse interpreters of the masters all the better
what are you going on about? Isserlis really cares about the music, he plays it from the heart instead of doing it for the money. That is what a true musician is. He does not like to copy, he is not a copy, but if you dont like his playing thats ok (he cant please everyone) just dont say hes a bad copy.
im trying to sort that out, to put it bluntly, im his son and have access to lots of his music. i just dont have the time and knowledge of how to transfer videos of his to youtube. dont worry, ill try and get one or more of his things up after my exams :)
That would be wonderful! Thanks in advance! We listen to your dad's beautiful recordings often in our house. A great cellist, musician, writer, person, etc. is he! Have anything from his conducting debut?
so good to see your post here. your dad appeared with the njso and was very gracious in doing this talk and play for the kids of the youth orchestra. the kids loved him and he and they had a lot of fun with the q&a.
i was a brass coach at the time and had my little canon point and shoot and made this tiny film - the sound quality of a p&s still camera is mediocre at best but the incredible intensity he brought to the opening bars of the elgar is amazing even thought this is just a demo and early in the morning
sorry about the sound quality - i used a canon digi p&s - when he asked if there were any more questions two kids asked in perfect unison "what's your name again" and he answered "i really can't remember"
I heard him play the Elgar with the Minnesota Elgar a few years ago. It was amazing. The clip at 1:51, he did that a lot when I saw him perform today. Also Amazing. He's scary as a teacher though. When was this?
he always wears cool T-shirts XD hahahaha

What does he say between, "we must go forward" and "alright, it starts like this"?
It causes everyone to laugh but I can't make it out.

He's got the best tone. I don't know any other cellist today who has such an incredible "golden" sound.

mlunapiena01 4 years ago
Well on a one on one bases, it's probably a bit scarier, and kinda intimadating. Hard to say why...He told me he's not scary, just firm
