  • Anyone know the date of this performance? I don't understand how there can be ANY dislikes. Can't have anything to do with the music.

  • thats a true celtic voice

  • Bless you, bigrico27; you ARE big in soul. I'm more Irish than Scottish and more English than either, not counting the German and Cherokee, but this music makes me weep every time. I esp. like The Corries's traditional approach.

  • Why do I never get tired of this and the Corries altogether (-: ? Just discovered them 10 days ago when looking for a good version of Loch Lomond. I have viewed their videos over and over again and each time they are as fresh as before.

  • like if your drinkin a dram o whisky listing ta this

  • Sends shivers down my spine! I may be a" kiwi" but Scotland is the land of my forefathers and this stirs my soul

  • I'm so grateful and proud to be Scottish.

  • we´ve got a scottish teacher in my school and we have a folk club and we sing this song. its so beautiful im a singer and loves deathcore and emocore but i thats so awsome i love it soo much!.

  • Independent, Gaelic and Free. Saor Alba.

  • We have weathered several World Wars together. We've been through a lot together. Surely to English and Scots that ought to count for something? We might have a history, but that IS history of shedding each others blood. Those times have passed. But why must people be so derogatory?

Also to the person who told us to stop using English..it is Germanic in origin. So if centuries of speaking it don't matter..maybe you ought to stop speaking it by that reasoning as well.

  • @DemeterNightmare fuck off you cunt english have shed blood in scotland not the other way around ask yourself why ? nd several world wars how old are u did u even go to school 2 world wars cause the germans wer tryn to conqore europe as 4 the other four its probably bn sum middle eastern country englands tryd to invade and just brought us along 4 the show bye..

  • @FraserMGZR I would like to say that for your information I am Scottish born and raised. I can trace my family back centuries, through my Clan. I'm a proud Scot. Get over your narrow mindedness and educate yourself a little on details. By several I meant two and I've volunteered at a care home for ex-soldiers who fought in those wars. And seriously it was Austria-Hungary who really initiated WW1. So try to get your facts right and it wasn't about conquering Europe. Oh, and learn how to spell.

  • I'll drink to the health of the highland and lowland Scots, to Geordies, Mancunians, to the Cornish and everyone in between. We are united, where once we were divided - even within our own countries, with various kings (not to mention the war of the roses and the like). In the same way, Japan used to be split by warring regions, and Italy too. Can we not celebrate our various identities and be stronger for it, rather than always seek to dwell on our differences? Here's a toast to all Scots.

  • always sing this song at the end of a family party (drunk i might add) love being scottish.

  • Went to many of their concerts in the good old days - brilliant pair!

  • I love this song always have always will, and the best think is I am from the same small town in Scotland as they are and I am proud of that.

  • I wish my Ancestors never came to America from Scotland. I would do anything to be able to live there in the 1800's.

  • Im a proud Scotsman.Where ever your from, you should be just as proud.FREEDOM FOR SCOTLAND

  • Well I'm German and I love this song. My father has been to Scotland and Ireland so many times and friends of ours are in a band that plays such folk music. But this sing I love most of them all. It always takes me back to the rough mountains and green valleys of Scotland :)

  • Well. I'm American, which makes me feel strange about even commenting, but what the hey. My dearest dream is to go to Scotland for university, hopefully to Glasgow. As much national pride as I have, something about the British Isles, especially Scotland, has always called to me. I just hope that dream comes true.

  • Our land is far to beautiful and far to small to be splitting up. Call it selfish if you will but i want to call it all my home. And if ever i go travelling in this world, speak proudly of the whole of Britain. Im proud to be British and find as much pride in this song as would a song like Jeruslem.

  • hail, this song has reinforced me throughout.scotland the greatest pour your braveness on me forever.

  • Scottish people wear their pride and love of their country in their hearts.I'm a proud American but Scotland is deep in my heart with my ancestors. You have to wrap the love of your land around you and keep you warm no matter where you may roam.

  • This song makes me shiver, I am always proud to be Scottish and will always believe in an independent Scotland, but in response to the last poster, never be shy to take pride in being English, thats what u are, thats where u are from, England and the English have had a phenomenal impact on the world, England has acheived more than most countries in the world can dream, England has a rich, diverse and interesting history and culture of its own, I have no idea why they dont want to embrace it.

  • @bigrico27 Nice to see you being positive about the English: my wife is English and I have two sons - one plays football for England and the other wouldn't dream of wearing the 3 lions! Funny old world. I'm proud to be Scottish and don't feel the need to slag off our neighbours.

  • @bigrico27 What you talking bout Willis?

  • @bigrico27 England is a great land! With great history, culture, landscape... and that does NOT mean we should occupy Alba. You are your own land, and I will personally ALWAYS fight for and support your independance, you deserve it. Though, I'd beg that Scots stop using English; it doesn't make sense for you to keep using a foreign language.

  • @bigrico27 Nah, couldn't possibly be because England's history is so closely entwined with Scotland's that viewing them as separate makes no sense. Yeah. They must just be ashamed to be English.

It would take me longer to get from Texas to Oklahoma than it would take for the average Englishman to get to Scotland. -.-

  • @bigrico27 It has many horrid sad feel down versions to muck up your emotions. Only this version, the ghost lovers' version, is the good one. It's only good when it's this version, where you shiver to look forward to being a ghost 3:23 and how being a ghost is always the answer to injustice. The most worthwhile pride is in being a "ghost in the machine", the ghost-body dualism of Descartes

  • beautiful. im English and i wish we took as much pride in our country as Scotland..they are an example to the rest of the world

  • I spent in Scotland the whole year and from the first moments I loved it. Even though at the beginning I really missed my home back in the Czech republic, at the end I felt like true Scot. Hope I will get an opportunity to see this country full of breathtaking nature and friendly people once again!!! I really miss you, bonnie Scotland!!!! Jan from the Czech rep.

  • i play harmonica...i would kill for the tab with this song....

shot in the dark here but....anyone have any clue where i might find it???

  • If this isn't the definitive version it hasn't been recorded yet

  • Great performance. Thank you for sharing this :)

  • A slightly different version of Loch Lomond was my lullaby when I was little. I collect this song both recorded and written and as near as I can find out this is the oldest version of Loch Lomond.

  • Does anyone else get a tear in their eye when they hear this song?

God, I would give anything to be able to hear them sing this live!... Too bad that won't happen. : (

  • I can honestly say i've yet to hear such a heavenly voice... it gave me chills the way he could shape the beautiful tones... oh to be a Scott... How I so wish to be one of them Kilt-wearin' sons of guns!

  • Et Suavis Et Fortis~

Harper Clan. Sadly never been able to live in Scotland.

  • Wow, love!

  • I've got Irish, Scottish, and (sadly) English ;) in me.

  • @MichaelGallaga me too and some russian or swedish this may explane my love for vodka whiskey and beer

  • RIP Roy. His voice was pure love. Also this is the best version of this song.

  • dauntless in battle and tender in love.....makes me proud to have Scottish blood in my veins.....

  • Whoa. His voice is beautiful!

  • wish so bad i was scottish...

  • to be honest i'

m never proud of anything but to be scottish i feel proud and free and this song reminds me of william wallace , robert bruce and all the men that died for scotland and the time i spent in loch lomond . what bonnie banks the were...

  • i'm brazilian and i don't know much about scotland nor about scotish pride. all i know is that this legend is absolutely charming. as a matter of fact, if i die abroad, my soul will tak the low road and i'll be in brazil afore all of ye...

  • @penseur99 Nice :)

  • I will always send my heart to the scotland ... scotburn43@gmail.com

  • I'm Irish. :(

  • lyrics?

  • Touching everyones soul, beautiful!

  • I wish I were Scottish. :(

  • @KarmStarkiller Everyone wishes they were Scottish.

  • @Irishborne I would live in Scotland if I had, millions or billions of pounds and Loch Lomond would be a place in Scotland I would live in.

  • @rojblake82 ye dont need millions ta live here it costs less than it deos ta live in england hay am a magician please check my channel

  • @rojblake82 dont midges wuld kill you ! not that ur gonna win the lottery .

  • @Irishborne I used to wish i was Scottish, but then i took an arrow to the knee.

  • @KarmStarkiller. Actually, Scottish clans do adopt members into their clans who are not of Scottish ancestry. So what you can do is if you have a friend who is Scottish and the two of you would go to a Scottish festival where his or her clan would be at and tell them you want to join their clan. So ya feel free.

  • Stunning. This is a beautiful song, wistful and proud. The simple backing and the audience softly singing along in the chorus complement each other perfectly.

  • Superb.

  • @X0Xdasie0X0

    as am i...as am i (:

  • The Corries are good!

  • Nunquam non paratus - Never Unprepared!

    ~Johnstone Clan

I am proud to be scottish and The Corries always remind me of my friends there.

  • This is so beautiful :) Thanks!

  • TUTUM TE ROBORE REDDAM Clan Crawford

  • MacDonald and Craig!!

  • CLAN MACGREGOR!

  • Though across and ocean, my heart lies in the highlands and lowlands. From an American of Clan Fergus(s)on.

  • Fraoch Eilean!! From Clan MacDonald.

  • I had never heard of The Corries until this evening. WOW! This is ABSOLUTELY the best version of Loch Lomond that I have ever heard! Well done! I am a fan for life. The lead vocal has "the voice" and the notes that he creates soothe my soul. Thank you for sharing your God given talent with the world.

  • 1.Fc Köln

    ur hymne !!!

  • I love that there are hardly any anti-English comments on this vid. Scotland shouldn't be about that.

I love my country and of course this song, it was my favourite tune as a wee youngling, I remember humming it because I didn't know what it was I was humming XD

  • SCOTTISH INDEPENDENCE BY 2015 whos with me

  • Made famous by Runrig, this is still a great version,

  • @stewartshedden MInd I think it was rather a famous song before Runrig ever recorded it. :-) Thoiugh Runrig's was the original Alicia Spottiswoode's version. This is a later set of words.

  • @gaconnochie I have to agree with you, I think this song was famous long before Runrig ever recorded it, I've still yet to hear Runrig's version yet... first time I've heard of Runrig actually.... so yeah.

  • @stewartshedden Runrigs very popular version of this song is (in my opinion) excellent. However the song was very famous in Scotland before Runrigs version which was recorded approximately 140 years after the song was first published. I do agree with you that this is a great version (although I am a very biased Corries fan).

  • @rabnuds I'm not sure if it was the specific video of the Runrigs- Loch Lomond or what, but I don't really like it... Do you have a specific video that could maybe change my mind? I have an open mind about many things :)

  • @stewartshedden Made famous by Runrig? You think this was made famous by Runrig? Jesus Christ!

  • hey 310avila we are from the auld country if we feel it, it must be in our bones and blood .Cheers from me in Oz.

  • Sublime...

  • A proud Scottish right here!!

  • hates not only most of his fellow scots (the majority of whom regard themselves as British as well as Scottish) but that he hates the Welsh too. If a Scot hates the English then he'd say that. Scots know the difference between England and Britain. However not self identifying as British - which is the case for many Scots - is not the same as saying you hate the British. By the way a proportion of English people don't self identify as British either. It is not restricted to Scots.

  • are no different. There was a small anti-English fascist element within the SNP (Siol nan Gadhael) but they were expelled from the party about 40 years ago. William Wallace was 700 years ago and is of no relevance to the issues today! As for reading up yes I have a large library of scottish history books. I don't need to get my Scottish history from Braveheat! I've never heard a Scot say he 'hates the British'. I can't even imagine an ardently anti-English Scot would say that as it implies he

  • hate the English. In truth we get on rather well with each other. There are of course a minoriy in every nation who are bigoted against other people but don't judge Scots as a whole by a few posts by net nutters on here. In truth the vast bulk of so called anti-Englishness in Scotland is nothing more than teasing over sporting rivalry. If a Man City fan wants to see Man Utd lose it doesn't mean he hates people from Manchester!

  • it's my b-day and i'm rocking my kilt all day. "Sero Sed Serio"

  • I don't know much about Scottish history so I don't understand all the arguments on this board, but...what a voice! What a song!

  • One of the finest vocal portrayals in any genre. This is just awe inspiring. I am an American but it makes me want to be a Scotsman. It makes me sad to know that Roy had died almost 2 decades before i ever heard The Corries. I would have loved to had a chance to see them live.

  • amhrán álainn

  • Saor Alba gu brath

  • Saor Alba gu brath

  • james devlin, i will never forget you

    Bazi !!!

    Bonny scotland

  • were me and my true love will never met again :/................ love my country

  • Alba gu bràth

  • I learnt the refren in your scottish language, and proudly sing it! Wish you the bests from Hungary!

  • @cheetachaataa Miert nem tanulod meg a Szekely Himnuszot is?

  • @cheetachaataa

We are so proud of the corries, wish they were alive to celebrate independence day! lol !

  • I am not ashamed to shed to tears to this day for the slain.

  • We doona need ta be explainin' what the high road and low road mean. Some of us know well what this song means and we doona need any dafties explainin it. I am american born and bred and I still doona need a weenies explanation...got a brain o' me own.

  • @beanofthesouthern Yeagh but I was asking the question to the poster who complained that he didn't know what it means. So like I say rather than moan why not just ask?

  • @gaconnochie So it begs the question of why someone would keep listening to a song they canna understand. Just imagine what the song, "Jock O' Braidosly" would do to that poster's head let alone "Flower Of Scotland" That person would never sleep again :) They either get it or no...it's in the blood and if one doesn't get it...then it's no in their blood.

  • @gaconnochie

"As long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours, that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself" Unfortunately there are few who know the USA is free because of the scots. No props are ever given to the noble men who gave all.

  • @beanofthesouthern I've been trying to post the very same you have posted. Thank You! It is a shame that so few know where the passion for freedom was born in re: the USA.

  • @beanofthesouthern Declaration Of Arbroath...1320..now That is food for thought.

  • Oh for fuck's sake, you people are useless. This song is so hard to understand and all I ever see is a misguided history lesson? I watch this video every few days and I've seen nothing of any value written on this board. I've almost figured it out myself at this point and I have a version for Americans to sing. I'm starting to think I'm the only person who has listened to this song and been inspired to do anything productive. Isn't it supposed to be inspirational? I hate all of you.

  • @toomanynamesful If you don't understand something why not just ask what it means?

  • @toomanynamesful

    asswipe

ye hate the Scot, well dont forget us of Scots ancestory, there is a lot of us out there, so if you want a fight, Bring it on, If you cant understand this or not the intelligence to ask just fork off

  • @ac130ugunship I don't hate Scottish people. I hate people that get on youtube and try to make a political forum instead of merely discussing the video they are watching. I wanted to know what people thought of this song.

  • @toomanynamesful

Can understand that but you made the comment "I hate all of You"

am a Kiwi decendant from the Cameron, especially in the internet we are judged by our words, best we be careful what we say

    1RNZIR "Onward"

  • Im proud to be scottish <3

  • @X0Xdasie0X0 Clan MacDougall!

  • @X0Xdasie0X0 i would be too

  • @TheAlienesque Then don't read it. It is easy enough to do that.

  • @TheAlienesque You tend to find that it is people outwith Scotland who have this insane thought that Lowlanders and Highlanders still hate each other. It is nonsense. Highlanders weren't the only ones to persecute Presbyterians. It was mainly the Scottish govt in Edinburgh and their military led by the likes of Claverhouse (ie Bonnie Dundee). There is no basis for the hatred your spewing towards Highlanders. Get over it - it's history! No-one is following you about. Get over yourself.

  • out but there simply wasn't that many Catholics in Scotland. Right through from the early 17thC the religious struggle was between Presbyterians and Episcopalians.

  • @TheAlienesque I don't know what you've got against Highlanders. There have been dreadful deeds done by Scots of all persuasions and from all areas. Why pick on just Highlanders. By the way you are right the risings were a Scottish Civil War but 'within Scotland' the Jacobite risings were not a Protestant versus Catholic episode. The bulk of Jacobites in all the said risings were Protestant with most being Episcopalians (ie Anglicans). Sure the Pretenders were Catholic and many Catholics came

  • @TheAlienesque The Norse came to Scotland and for centuries controlled not only the Northern Isles and far north of the mainland but also the Hebrides and parts of the western seaboard. What we now thing of as the Gaelic Hebridean islands are jam packed with Norse place-names and that area didn't even become part of the Scottish Kingdom until the mid 13thC after one of the Alexanders (forget which one) rested it from Norway after the Battle of Largs.

  • @TheAlienesque Gaels are people who speak or maybe who's ancestors spoke Gaelic whether it is Scots Gaelic or Irish or Manx. surely nothing to do with blood types?

  • @TheAlienesque Who cares about their blood types - it's culture that I'm talking about. . .beyond that tho' the Gaels settled in France as well as Ireland and Scotland. And keep your tongue - there's no need for foul language. Why would anyone be so defensive about such a thing?

  • @TheAlienesque Who cares about their blood types - it's culture that I'm talking about. . .beyond that tho' the Gaels settled in France as well as Ireland and Scotland.

  • Stop condescending me with your key stage 3 knowledge

  • @TheAlienesque they were not pure bred jutes dont be daft...what are you 18? The nose elite had even interbred with locals in modern day Normandy by the time they took on the saxons. Not all saxons lost their lands either in England

  • @3tangle3 Norse*

  • @TheAlienesque but why are the highlanders treacherous? they are a group of gaelic ancient settlers.....just as much immigrants to Scotland as the english elite who trickled in

  • I am from Brazil, South America and I love this song .

  • I found these guys about 3 years ago and haven't stopped enjoying their music.-from Indiana

  • The Scots and the Irish trace their Gaelic roots to France - there is still a close connections - the Stuarts were Scots who married French royalty.

  • love this wonderful song thanks for posting

  • Could anyone help me out with the chord progression for this song? Would be much appreciated, one of my all time favourites

  • @Cynical131

I always play it like this:

    F I Dm I Bb I C I

    F I Dm I Bb I C I

    Bb I Dm I Gm I Bb C7 I

    F I Dm I Gm C I F I

  • @hobbychirurg Thanks very much, I'll try this out when I'm back home :)

  • These are are real men...never again shall we see their like...god help the 21st century..

  • For those who haven't enjoyed the Corries for more than this one song, I highly recommend clicking onto all of their other songs on YU. Sadly one has passed away, so there will be no more Corries. But the other still performs and keeps the memory alive. My favourite is "The Loch Tay Song". Has been since I was less than 10 yo and I sang it to my girlfriend at 17 yo and again at my great Uncles funeral some years later. I can't sing but sometimes the lyrics are more important than tonality.

  • @madphilgreenballs Lest we forget him!

  • love this song I am researching two family lines that came from Scotland. Clyde n Brownlee. These songs and this group hit me very strongly.

  • @va2gin

Greetings from California! I happen to be from a line of Brownlee from Lanarkshire (Bonkle to be more precise). Robert Brownlee left Bonkle in the 1830s and ended up with the '49ers after traveling through New York, Arkansas, then to California via the Arkansas Trail.

  • @haitipi I was lucky enough to have the main Brownlee researcher see a post I had made in a genealogy data basic so I didn't need to do as much research on my 3rd great grandmother Rachel Brownlee of IL as I normally would.

Clyde is one of my road block.

  • Very very beautiful song!

  • Hey markmywordswell,.....that's pretty close on how the lyrics were written but,..

you're right, it was a Jacobite soldier waiting to hang in Carlisle gaol,..the lyrics were him writing to his girlfriend/wife,...you take the High Road,...& I'll take the Low Road,......he's saying I'll be dead before you butwe'll meet again.

  • I am from Chile, South America, and I love traditional songs from different countries. This one is great.

  • @bichomaldito I am Scottish. I enjoy music from your end of the world as well. Si vas para Chile. Una cancion mortal!

  • This song is really beautiful.

My Scottish friend told me that pretty much everyone knows this song up there. England has no equivalent, which is a real shame.

I wish I could give it more thumbs up!

  • this is BEAUITFUL, this boy can sing, lovely voice...and the harmonies at the end from both of them, perfect!

  • Ein Sehr schönes Lied, das mit Herz gesungen wird.

  • Brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it! Goose pimples and all!!

  • I wish i was Scottish :/

  • @310avila

As long as you hate the British your a scotsman in my eyes!

  • @UFOAnswers So tell me do you actually know many Scottish people?

  • @gaconnochie

As a matter of fact I do. Half of my family comes from Scotland - and I don't mean like hundreds of years ago - I mean they are actually from Scotland. Also the area in which I live in has many Scottish immigrants.

  • @UFOAnswers Well the reason I said that was two fold. First of all I'd expect someone who knows lots of scottish people to know that Scotland is part of Britain. Why would Scots need to hate themselves to be seen as Scots in your eyes. It's ridiculous. And before you say Scots aren't British I know that 30% of Scots don't regard themselves as such (in reality making a political statement) but 70% do so. Secondly if by British you actually mean English then of course the vast bulk of Scots don't

  • @gaconnochie

It is in somewhat a political statement when Scots say they hate the British. It goes back hundreds of years. Read up about William Wallace (hate to sound cliche but it's a good place to start.) It's an Independence issue. Also, I'm not sure if your aware of this but there is talk that Scotland is planning to break away from the United Kingdom. Real shit.

  • @UFOAnswers "I'm not sure if your aware of this but there is talk that Scotland is planning to break away from the United Kingdom." Good grief of course I know that. The Nats won a majority in Holyrood - and I voted for them. They plan to hold a referendum and I'd support the 'yes' campaign. However none of that is about hating the English. It is about how best to run the country. There are a tiny minority of Scots who are ardently anti-english. As I said all countries have their bigots - we

  • @gaconnochie

You need to learn how to read, I said William Wallace was a good place to start. I never said go watch Braveheart, what a moronic statement. I also never said that all Scots hate the British, I clearly said that "In MY eyes," Its what I think, not the whole Scottish world, I also said it was my family and the Scottish people in my community LOCATED IN AMERICA that think this. LEARN HOW TO READ. I speak for myself and the people who live by me, not the country of Scotland moron.

  • @UFOAnswers "You need to learn how to read, I said William Wallace was a good place to start. I never said go watch Braveheart" No but I'm suggesting that maybe you've picked up your history from that source! The trouble is when you spout nonsesne about Scots on the net then actual Scots are likely to see it and maybe comment on it. That is life!

  • @UFOAnswers Man you should just shut up. this guy clearly knows more than you. Your probably just some kid that found out he has scottish roots, watched braveheart and decided he hates the english. next time if you dont want to sound like a complete dick, don't try and tell someone about there own countries history.

  • @UFOAnswers Scots ARE British, moron. Until Scotland wins independence (cross fingers) from the United Kingdom, Scotland is part of Great Britain. The word you're looking for is "English".

  • i love this song i actually drove round the trossachs wen i passed ma driving test with this playin such great singers fkn legends rest in peace roy

  • Aye.. that visualizes me when I was in Scotland for the very first time..

I was 18, just got me drivers-license and went over from Germany with me old trusty Hannomag.

I would give money if I could see my face when I got the answer on my first ask for the way there.

The most adventures journey I ever made in live. An absolute incredible fun.

  • i was the 666,666 viewer...

  • A masterpiece.

  • Remind me of my Girl Guide days in Singapore when we sang at campfire. Very nostalgic indeed.Thank you for posting this, its wonderful song

  • This is quite probably the greatest four minutes in the history of music.

  • what an uplifting feeling this gives me, just makes my stomach warm and smiley :)

even though its a sad story :(

  • i love this song because of what it is about it sounds completely wrong for the topic but it is amazing

  • @madhammy09 how is this wrong? isn't it about Culloden?

  • @stjulienlepauvre what i mean is most scottish music is gentle though the music is mostly about war, battles or daily strife.
