Pop tends to be about trivial subjects and is typically performed by untalented or over synthesized performers. That's why I don't really think that two songs being in the same key is really great proof of much anything other than that there aren't that many musical keys to write in.

Pop can be artistic, yes it can also be artificial/manufactured/vain and lack depth but it doesn't necessarily have to and hasn't always been that way. ie.David Bowie.
