  • I first heard of Don Walser on NPR (National Public Radio).

I immediately went out and bought his latest CD "Rolling Stone from Texas".

I'm sorry to hear he has passed. His voice is very unique and I can recognize it anywhere.

  • I don't know what I looked forward to more, Don & his genuine smile or knowing that Patricia Jane was going to be there to greet everyone.

I first saw him ~14 years ago @ Babe's & from then on, it was like Don & the Pure Texas Band became my own personal discovery of a treasure chest that only I was able to open.

Thanks for keeping his memory alive.

  • I love Don and his music. He is still with us in out hearts. I love the joy he sends me with his voice and song. I'll never forget him......

  • I really love your dad's music. I think he got his Natonal Heritage Fellowship Award the year before I did.

  • Wonderful entertainer - his music has won the hearts & ears of my 10 & 12 year old children - almost brings me to tears watching/listening to them sign his songs almost "word for word"

  • i love don walser. i wish i could have know him. I saw a picture of him at the broken spoke last night. He was a pretty funny guy....cheers

  • Great talent!

  • Sure miss Donny. He used to seranade us after supper at summer camp at Fort Hood when we were in the National Guard. Bill Storey

  • Thank you for this post. Don seemed to give his heart and soul in each melody.

  • I had the great pleasure to meet Don in 1995 at SXSW and he was a true gentle giant who left the deepest impression of humility and kindness as you could ever hope to meet. Don Walser was a true American ORIGINAL. Thanks for this post.

  • I was raised on cotton farm in Caddo Mills, married girl from Lamesa I discovered Don's music from 95.3 in Dallas. His music harkens back to a gentler time for me thanks!

  • years ago ,when I lived in Austin I would go see Don Walser at JAZZ on 6th st., love his music so much, and he was such a big happy guy, would hang out with everyone during breaks and after his shows, telling stories and jokes.

  • I'll never forget the night back in 1999 when i had the joy of watching mr wallser perform outside in Grapevine. That old Texen flag was flying above him lit up and flutering in the night breeze as he performed on a grandstand...it was a moment that i wanted to freeze and remember forever.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this tribute. I didn't know of Don's passing until now. My sincerest to you and yours. Your daddy's yodelin' and vocal style influenced me a lot in my performing and singing conjunto music here in south Texas. As far as I'm concerned, NOBODY could sing or yodel like your dad. I'm sure the world would agree with me on that. He's problably already swinging and yodelin' to the multitudes upstairs! Thank y'all again for sharing. God bless and Happy Holidays..

  • I had the privelege to meet your Dad when he played in NYC approx 5yrs ago w/ Bill Kirchen. He played down at Battery Park & then at the Mercury Lounge. He was a real nice guy & a true professional. God Bless him.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this. I loved your Daddy's voice and music. He is very missed.

  • Don Walser one of my favorite yodelers of all time,along with Slim Whitman,Kenny Roberts,Kerry Christensen,Taylor Ware,Melanie Oesch,Margret Almer,Angela Weidel!!(afandan)

  • The true, pure voice of an angel and a Texas Treasure. God Bless and Keep Don Walser.

  • Somehwere at the end of the dusty trail when I pass the last cactus and I stand before the Pearly Gates I will stop and catch my breath and in the silence of that evening I am sure that I will hear hear Yod'ling and it will be coming from Don Walser who will be inside and in that moment I will know that I have come to the right place ;)
  • i miss you papa......and this is true

  • I like so much he singing in the movie "the secondhand lions"...it's very very nice!!!

  • Thanks for posting this. I have been a fan of Don's since the early 1980's when I first saw him in Austin. The was a true ORIGINAL. I did see him in a singing part in a movie with Woody Harelson. Don's singing fit in with the time frame and really helped the movie. I will miss him. Andy B.

  • Living up im Michigan I came across this amazing music. I rarely but music but I bought all his. Always play it while working and I hope like hell he knew what a gift his music was to the everday man. Love to yours

  • Don's recordings have got a lot to teach to these days' so-called 'super-stars' fillin' the country charts today without a touch of real country.

  • saw this great artist in Scottsdale AZ Oct. 1995.

he created a great dancing memory for me and many of my friends, we were all in our 20's and 30's then and and loved Don and a person, his music, and his amazing voice.
