  • @digby72 I've heard of various situations similar to this. W always practice back and fourth or toss the gun as to not get in the habit of handing it back for that very reason.

  • lol i would just point the gun at him with my left hand arm, he hasn't countered that

  • this shit is tight i only see this stuff in movies

  • thats really good, i take karate, but i know it would be very usefull in these days to learn these techniques. i should try to sometime

  • you shouldnt hand guns hand to hand!, always throw on the floor for the other person, or else in a real fight, your just gonna hand the gun back to the attacker even if you know you shouldnt.

  • :28 BITCH!

  • My two cents here, no harm intended. A British cop (bobbie) was practicing counter gun techniques just the way you do, immediately handing it back to his partner every time. When Murphy visited him and a guy pulled a gun on him, he took it away just like in practice... and then handed the gun back to the criminal, just like in practice. Just something to think about... other than that, all the best to you!

  • @digby72 all that says is that that cop is a total retard

  • Some of this is OK; some of it looks like an easy way to get a bullet in the brain. It doesn't matter how good you are, a bullet will move faster than you can. If the guy has a gun, give him the money: the risk of getting shot rationally outweighs the chances of a successful disarm. No disrespect intended, but I think trying to disarm someone with a handgun just can't be a good idea. Call me a wuss.

  • PINK FLOYD FTW

  • who cares if it is kenpo, or if the borrowed it from another art? it is great to learn from other arts and blend it into what you already know. it is called evolving. martials arts that refuse to change with the time, or learn from other arts, will soon become useless in real life situations.

  • thats krav maga

  • I wanna learn gun defenses as well. This is very useful and I am not even Kenpo. well thought out guys. Thanks for posting, forget the haters.

  • Ya when im going to rob some one or kill some one im going to hold the gun like a pussy and not be ready to pull the trigger !!

  • @madox750 if you're robbing someone with a gun you already are a total pussy

  • Guys, i'm sorry. I work in this area for a living,,, Close protection in Guatemala. Some of what you do is ok and some is bull. take care what you post on the internet, some people will think its all good and end up getting shot. Plus are you sure its kenpo,,, it looks a lot like Krav Maga,, and in this art i am a master trainer & student of Grand Master Danny Hazan,, 9th dan in krav maga. Have A look at AIKMA on googel.

  • What does N.S. stand for?

  • @bushwhacker2k North Shore

  • These are good techniques.. The same as Krav or goshin Jujitsu

  • Krav Maga techniques.

  • i would never do a disarm by yanking the gun away towards your face!..trigger goes off.its over...

  • the gun facind anywhere in his back moves were bad and slow. he wouldve already been shot. unless a black guy had a gun then your safe.

  • We use airsoft guns so when ever we mess up, we get shot.

  • Cool, how many of you douchebags have acutally a) had a gun pointed at your head. b) had the gunman dumb enough to be that close to you and c) tried to snatch a loaded gun pointed at your head and succeeded.

  • @DiscoFunk70 I've had A and B, but I wasn't foolish enough to try for C.

  • Maybe you should change your name to "SubmissiveAnarchist". No that wouldnt work, dropthe "Anarchist" too and just put "pussy" at the end. That would be more fitting.

  • I love it.

  • ma porco dio siete dei pagliacci

  • Now... where is the kenpo? I guess its right. Krav kipes stuff from other systems with no respect, so turnabout is fair play.

  • inside wrist trapping works rather well, it gives you the ability to allow the shooter to shoot himself before you take his gun away.

  • im never convinced these techniques would work in real life - i mean, what about fear, adrenaline, the idea that your life really could be taken in a split second - what if theyve taken your kid? what if theyve already stabbed you in the stomach? what if your been running trying to escape and theyve caught you?

id love to speak to someone whos really used these kinda techniques for "real" and shown they actually do work...

training is good - but is no subsitute for a real life situation...

  • Many self-defense scenarios (both hypothetical and actual) dictate that reaction beats action.

After all, if this was based on "action beats reaction," these drills would involve assaulting the gunman before he posed a threat.

  • gun would win from far away

  • Of course it would, that's not the point of the exercise.. most muggings don't happen at the guns max range :P

  • That's kinda self-explanatory. Kenpo is for trapping range; guns are for projectile range. It's like saying that a sniper would beat someone with a pistol from "far away." It doesn't mean that one is better than the other; it just means that one is more effective from a certain range than the other.

  • This is F.I.G.H.T. AKA HAGANAH from Mike Lee Kanarek who I have been training with for over 15 years now!

    Knifes & Guns!

    GODZILLA!

  • You are right, as soon as I saw the first technique I knew it was HAGANAH

  • i trained kenpo. nope nothing here was kenpo. i thought it looked krav (i do not like krav) so Haganah sounds better.

  • @FusBoxe NS kenpo is the name of our system. Its our kenpo, so every video has the title ns kenpo. In any event ,you are right on the money, our weapons disarms are from krav and haganah. We trust their application the most. Our channel page profile describes our system and the styles we have trained and give credit accordingly. Our main thrust of the training is shaolin and american kenpo for its theory and application. Our style is pure hybrid with kenpo being the back bone. Hope that helps.

  • @FusBoxe Kenpo is actually a Jpanese word that genralises Chinses martial arts, just like the english word Kung Fu. There are tonnes of diffrent forms of Kenpo, as there are many forms of Kung Fu. Saying nothing in this vid looks Kenpo, is like watching a Tai Boxer and say nothing he is doing looks Qi Gong.

  • Good drill, I like 99% of what I see! What makes these techniques good is they are simple entries, and the defender gets off line.

  • no one can be fast then a bullet

  • Its not the bullet that you need to beat, its the person's finger on the trigger.

  • Exactly. The bullet cannot fire itself.

  • I actually argee with MouthforWar's well thought out comment. The concept of risk resides with being in that situation to begin with and being able to gain controll is the edge. Doing nothing in that situation makes for an easy target.

Thor605, thank you for making and putting these videos on YT!!

  • Pleasure. Hope you find some value added info. in them.

  • I agree. Just give them what they want at that distance, but when they get within arms reach then you have options. In the end, it's about being smart and choosing the right action for the situation.

  • I think although it is very very hard to be fast enough to pull off these techniques in time, it is definitely possible.

I've done some training like this with an attacker with a loaded paintball gun, which gives a pretty good idea of the speed required to be faster.

I guess even if you move as fast as you can it still takes a good amount of luck to do it.

I estimate a regularly trained person can be able to do it in about 60 - 70% of the cases. Question is: is that enough to take the risk..?

  • Respectfully you should not give the gun back to the "bad guy". In a real life situation you rely on muscle memory. This actually happened to a soldier in the military he took a hand gun from a real life attacker and the promptly handed it back to the bad guy. Not because he was a idiot it was muscle memory...that is how he had practiced the technique hundreds maybe thousands of times. Who ever takes the gun from the bad guy becomes the next bad guy is how it should be practiced IMO.

  • "This actually happened to a soldier in the military he took a hand gun from a real life attacker and the promptly handed it back to the bad guy."

Bullshit, there is no way that a soldier in combat would do that, I don't believe it.

  • I realize people will argue back and fourth on the practicallity here but keep in mind when someone pulls a gun, it's not always with the intent to kill. Yes that can be the end result but there is an element of intimidation and controll and the gunman has something to gain with this form of leverage. With those motives in mind also comes a hesitation on the gunmans part. this training takes advantage of that.

Nothing is full proof. But this training is an edge...

  • We couldn't agree more. Good luck in your training.

  • @MouthforWar78 correct. And the only reason the gunman may shoot you is because you scare him by spinning around and going for the gun.

  • doing nothing is a good way to get a bullet in the brain to

  • fantastic techniques!!! sorry that all is only fantasies, you need less time to pull the trigger than the time you need to make one of that moves, im black belt in Di Er Dai Kenpo Karate, my master was 7th Dan and he was Ed Parker s student, he said to me that all that kind of techniques only works with lots and lots of good luck

  • We agree you need lots of luck , great timing and skill to hopefully increase your odds of survival, nothing more. Good luck in your training.

  • i apologize i didnt want to be rude

  • An excellent way to get a bullet in the brain.

  • I like your techniques...They are straight to the point and effective...

  • Thanks for the comments.

  • good

  • excellent speed. If you'd like to make things more interesting, sometimes I like to get one of those nerf toy guns, and what your ukie can do is fire it the very second he sees you move to see if the technique actually works. So far, I haven't seen any of the brown or black belts get shot, but it makes the demo that much more realistic. Happy training.

  • Yes we like to experiment with different drills as well. Thanks for the comments and good luck in your training.

  • I see you have Comment pending approval. Not posting my previous comment would be another act of disrespect. I hope integrity win out.

  • These are Krav Maga tactics. Any reference that these are Kenpo gun defenses is an insult to Krav Maga instructors. I would recommend that you alter your title. Krav incorporates along with it's own original tactics, boxing, muay tai, BJJ and a touch of Judo. We make no misrepresentations. Neither should you. We take pride in the fact that others around the world without weapon defenses use ours. But no need to call them yours.

  • First and most importantly N.S. Kenpo is our academy and curriculum name ( North Shore Kenpo ), hence the title used on every one of our videos. I suggest you look at previous comments and more importantly look at our channel page desciption. We cross train in many systems, krav and haganah being some of them. Our weapons defense work is from them. Hope that helps you . Thanks for the comments. Good luck and continued success in your training.

  • I appreciate your explanation and leaving my post up. After teaching Krav Maga for some 14 years, and watching it get devalued and watered down here in the USA to almost a cardio class with crap instruction, I get a little sensitive. There are a few decent schools. LA is very good but rare. It is my hopes that if you teach Krav make it tough and challenging to a live action level. No need for push ups and sit ups half the class. Bang it up and truly prepare your students. Rick

  • Rick , We couldnt agree more.

  • cigar anyone?

  • The best defense against a gun is another gun.

*This doesn't mean that martial arts is not important for effective self-defense.

  • nicely done.

  • wouldn't it be wiser to move your had when you grab for the gun?

  • Pretty good defence. However, i look at this and can't help but notice the time it takes to control the gun. He hits him about 2 or 3 times before taking away the gun. Innocent people could get shot. Not trying to insult you guys or anything, but if it were me, i would get off the lazer line then take the gun away as fast as posible.

  • fucking absurd. if a man has a gun to your head you say 'yes sir' and do whatever the fuck he says.

  • We dont disagree. Its a bad situation to be in, with poor odds of success. However sometimes you might not have a choice. If we could increase our odds of success with solid fundamentals and hard training we will take it.

  • I'm gonna have to disagree. Real life isn't like the movies. If someone pulls a gun on you and doesn't shoot you immediately they probably want you to do something. You should play along until they screw up and present an opportunity (gun not on you, attention elsewhere, finger not on trigger ect.). Until then, its just idiotic to try anything.

Thats just my opinion, but I'll stand by it.

  • I don't like well practiced people trying to teach everyday joe schmoe's to do as they do. they can't...not enough time on the mat like you do.

but...if I were in a situation where I feel I'm going to die anyway, I'd probably try to remember your video and try your moves, hoping I get the upper hand. I don't wanna die without at least trying.

    thanks for the vid! :)

  • Your welcome. Thanks for the comments.

  • On the street your dead from 10 meters away. On a hit they put a .20 cal. gun to your head below your ear, pull the trigger and you're dead. Low cal. with the compression of gasses on the side of you head make almost no sound. Low cal. also means no exit wound as it is to small to penetrate the skull. In reality the only reason someone would pull a gun on you is to threaten you. Just give him what he wants and report him to the police later. Besides what if he has multiple guns?

  • Completely useless. Only an idiot would get that close with a gun.

  • pretty similar to Krav maga, still cant say wich is better, never trained kenpo

  • I was just about to say this looks alot like Krav Maga..In fact..I think it is Krav Maga =x

  • I like all arts. When it comes to guns distance is paramount. Try to extend the gap or close it depending on where you are at the time. I was taught to say something crazy l-...no offense intenteded-My sister sucks di@k for crack and I found out my brother is guy and now this. Act scared and close distance the entire time ur talking. Crazy huh.. lol. DO not duck it wastes time, pivot to the side or move your head to the side. ALWAYS GET OUT OF THE LINE OF FIRE QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

  • looks great and all but how do you know when the attacker will pull the trigger before you try the fancy technique

  • thats why they move befor they would have the opportunity ti fire

  • looks like steven segal \o/ LOL

    great job guys!

  • WTF!! That is not Kenpo at all. Those are Krav Maga drills.

  • We cross train in many styles, kenpo being our main system. However our weapons work is from krav and haganah

  • I see. I was expecting kenpo, sorry. I do like some KM weapon disarms. I find for the most part though the Krav Maga system is a scaled down version Kenpo.

You should try training with paint ball guns. That is fun (can be a little messy and painful as well).

  • Thanks for the comments.

  • whats with the chipmunk version of pink floyd in the back?

  • Kenpo?... Look more like Krav Maga

  • Yes

  • But what if he dident stood so close?

  • You're screwed. Use verbal skills to diffuse the situation or to close the gap.

  • Cry out for your mother!!!! ha ha!!!

  • wat was the name of the song

  • "have a cigar" by pink floyd

  • What? No take-downs?

  • right on, this could actually work against a coward with a gun...who else wields such a weapon...

  • Coward? Yeah, go ahead and tell that to anyone in the Marine Corp, PLA, or the IDF and see what happens.

  • I think you might end up shooting yourself in the face with some of these moves.

  • If you take another look, you will see that once the weapon is seized we do not pass in the line of fire. Thanks for the comments.

  • yep, that was by the textbook, I don't know what aarc was talking about.

  • props, thats some really cool stuff right there

  • Thank You

  • They should done it with a watergun!!

  • these guys are bad-ass. the floyd was an excellent touch.

  • best thing to do is give up your possessions. i would never try this

  • Is this not Krav Maga?

  • Yes, our weapons work is mostly from krav and haganah

  • first move is always get out of line of fire. I like the moves you guys are using. I have some different ones from the military that are effective. Also, the guy with the gun never had his finger inside the trigger gaurd. In real life they will have their finger in the gaurd and it will get broken when disarmed. Not downing your moves, I like them very much. Best wishes, Chris Lucus

  • Thanks for your comments. You are correct about the finger in the trigger guard. Even with a training weapon your finger gets pretty mangled up. Good luck in your training

  • when he is pointing his gun at the back of your head, shouldn't you duck and turn at the same time instead of just turning? He could pull the trigger if he sees the slightest rotation...

  • The ducking action could possibly keep you in the line of fire longer depending on how low the gun is on the rear of you head. Also adding a duck to the turn will slow you down as you need to close the gap quickly. Good luck in your training

  • A lot of these moves resemble Krav Maga disarm techniques which are very effective even against skilled gunmen and even soldiers. However, there are some that would not be effective for many people. For instance, the first disarm of the video is only effective because the victim is much faster than his assailant. Most people are not fast enough to execute that move. For anybody else, it would be extremely dangerous because you are in the line of fire for aproximately 2/3 of the of the move.

  • Thanks for your comments. Yes our weapon disarms are from krav and haganah. The first disarm in the video is gun to the forehead. We drop our height while capturing the weapon and push it above our head ( out of the line of fire in the shortest distance ) and twist the weapon torwards your attacker for the strip and hopeful finger break.

  • amazing moves. I have to say though, a skilled gunmen could still get shot on you.

  • Thank you for your comments. We agree with you about facing a person skilled with a firearm. Whether it be a firearm or knife it is a situation where the odds are not in your favor but we feel through proper training and sound tactical moves you can increase your odds of survival.

  • good that you have a realistic outlook on that. I agree it ups the odds of survival. I think grabbing the gun could be dangerous, but if you know the guy is gonna shoot you anyway, what choice do you have.

  • cool stuff. my fave one is when hes like a foot back and he just takes it from him. hahaha i got your gun.

  • Wow, I've been in Universal Kempo for 20 years and we use the same techniques!! Great stuff guys.

  • Thank You.

  • I want to learn this. Were can I go?

  • Our weapons curriculum is from two systems, Haganah and Krav maga. You should be able to find a school near you. Good luck

  • the gun defense from the front at 0:21 is a similar technique we train in CDT. all other techniques we train in krav maga. good job fellows!

  • Thank you. Yes our weapons training is from krav and haganah.

  • nice! i see some resemblances in the gun defense techniques our instructor taught us!

  • SOMETIME SPEED ISNT TE KEY

  • at :25 seconds thats almost like whatu.s. marines do :) exept if it was a marine the arm would be broken, jaw broken, ribs broken, neck broken, AND the gunmen would be shot several times. lol

  • Agreed. For purposes of the drill and video it was deleted

  • You really should not train yourself to hand the gun back to an attacker.

You will do it in a real life encounter if you train to do that. I am warning you because it has happened before.

Do something else with the gun afterwards. Like throw it to the ground and run.

  • haha, i was told by an officer that what you just described, has happened to one of his co-worker. the off duty officer was able to disarmed the gunman. but because when he trains in gun defense, he has the tendency to hand back the gun to his partner. he did that in the real life situation.

  • Thank You

  • Brings me back to the good old days of speed drills...It's great to see a good demonstration of some real techniques. I also appreciate the fact that it shows several different situtations rather than just one or two. Nice video.

  • These tactics are Krav Maga...NOT Kenpo.

  • We cross train in several styles. Our weapons work is from krav and haganah. You are correct.

  • who cares if these techniques are from krav maga or kenpo! as long as they work, use it. it's not like krav maga has a patent on these techniques.

  • kempo is very similar to jeet kune do.. cross training, mixed arts, intercepting fists, absorbing what is useful and discarding the useless. I'm both a Kempo and jkd street defense student (i dont go very often to street defense, pretty far.)

Im only a yellow belt at Kempo but hey i'll get there soon enough and maybe be able to teach it. good vid btw :] much respect

  • Thanks for your comments.
