  • 1) I don't desire nor enjoy close relationships.

    2) I have no interest in sexual or romantic relationships because of my severe chronic social anxiety. Of course I would like to have sex once in a while, but my personality makes this totally impossible.

    3) I take pleasure in few, if any, activities.

    4) I don't have friends, I only speak to my parents.

    5) I'm very concerned about what others think of me; I have severe chronic social anxiety.

    Conclusion; I may have SPD.

  • @Metsada007 You just sound like an Avoidant.

  • @Micro8Bit

    Is avoidant less problematic?

  • @Metsada007

I'm not qualified to say stuff like that but in my view Avoidant is worse due to the fact that you are suffering from anxiety. The ideal schizoid is satisfied with solitude and isolation and usually do not care too much about how others perceive them. They are like extreme introverts I'm told.

  • I just learned that you don't necessarily have to have all the symptoms relating to Schizoid personality disorder. I only have 4 (or 5) out of 6. I guess I'm schizoid, though never officially diagnosed.

  • Im gonna comment even though this is probably over...

Schizoid and schizophrenia are NOT the same thing.

To my inderstanding schizoid pd involved social anxiety whereas schizophrenia is delusions and halucinations etc.

But sorry, i dont know about treatment...

  • I could really help! if its not already done.....

  • As someone in the mental health field, my understanding is that while there may be some similarities, schizoid PD should NOT be confused with schizophrenia. Someone with the PD will not experience delusions, hallucinations, or the same degree of "disorganized" thoughts and behavior. My understanding is that schizoid PD is typified by acute social and emotional isolation (which is why few seek treatment). Check out "Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy" (ISTDP) as a treatment option. :)

  • Yeah ihave it

It has destroyed my life and I am applying for disability

There is no treatment or cure

  • Mmm...i have squizoid personality disorder and in the last years i ve thinking in kill people ...(not now but i dont know why..maybe because my parents are dead =/) but with antipsychotics and psychoterapy i m...well..at least i have a job and i m studing in the university hahaha...but i dont think in a cure because is my personality i think...i dont have much friends and i never date with a girl in my stupid and boring life =/...LOL...well...good luck dude!.Take care and try to enjoy the life=)

  • your picture frame is crooked. The one on the far right bottom. Needless to say, it drove me nuts.

  • Don't take this as fact, maybe you should research my claims, I've noticed that sufferers tend to be on tall side. One other thing, which is documented, sufferers seem to become insomniacal before a Schizophrenic episode. Adjustments to medication are frequent.

  • I understand that schizoid, means a tendancy to have psychotic episodes. Here in the UK, Schizophrenia is treated with drugs such as Respiridol, Quetiapine and Depixol ( I'm not sure of spellings), these are anti psychotics. The sufferers of Schiz, can hear voices, suspicious thoughts, feelings of grandeur and believe that disconnected events are centred around them. Hallucinations can occur, both

visual and audial. Extreme behavior can occur.

  • @zincfreud Whats an example of a psychotic episode?

  • Schizoids can have what are called brief psychotic breaks when stressed. However they get the schizophrenic treatment because all psychosis is treated as schizophrenia here in the US. Look into Finland and their "Open Dialogue" method with an 85 to 90% success rate for acute psychosis without medication. I'm about to start therapy thru Voc Rehab there's not much a therapist can do unless you have other problems. I just want him to sign off on Voc Rehab services.

  • @PsychopathicSchizoid Thanks for the help. I don't wanna pester you with questions but websites are bland when it comes to explanations for criteria. Could you tell me any key symptoms of schizoid personality disorder?

  • @InTheEndIWasRight

1.Neither desires nor enjoys close relationships, including being part of a family

    2.almost always chooses solitary activities

3.has little, if any, interest in having sexual experiences with another person

4.takes pleasure in few, if any, activities

5.lacks close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives

6.appears indifferent to the praise or criticism of others

7.shows emotional coldness, detachment, or flattened affectivity

  • @Metsada007 With the social games being played in school to isolate targeted teens our psychology cannot be trusted as we are literally manufacturing "mental disorders", but "mums the word".

As the goal of these psychopaths are to isolate many cross-over symptoms exist; organized mobbing causes "loss of faith in humanity" which CAN look very similar, but is environmental not organic.

  • @UnoRaza

Interesting point, I agree, but in my case I was always strange. I always felt abnormal around people and extremely anxious or uncomfortable.

  • @Metsada007 It the Organized Mobbing racket widely known in your age group?

This is GREAT news as my teens were put through HELL by "teachers" via "bad-jacketing" and allowing "nature 2 run its course"; IE setups, fake innuendos or hints about cheating or whatever!

  • The schizoid is treated just as a schizophrenic which means antipsychotics here in the USA. I've been fighting with Vocational Rehab because they want me on an antipsychotic in order to receive services. Academics don't translate well in the real world of 10 minute medication adjustments. Psychotherapy is limited if at all available. There are some community programs that help keep people out of Assist Living Facilities ... just received Social Security disability which makes me eligible.

  • @PsychopathicSchizoid But schizoid doesn't have the positive symptoms like schizophrenic does, so why use antipsychotics? I figure using like welbutrian perhaps. Would group and individual psycho and talk therapy be considered some possible "treatment" options as well? In my looking I dont know if I would be considered schizoid or just very introverted or something like that. But the criteria I've seen fit me so I'm not sure.

  • One good thing about being a veteran. "Too poor to afford a shrink and some meds? well, then we'll give them to you for free."

This also means I have no idea what services are out there for all the "civilians", since my service is spelled V-A.

  • @blackacidlizzard From what I see it's mainly individual or group talk therapy. I'm still looking though. This "disorder" is interesting to me though.

  • @InTheEndIWasRight

Wait, is this the same as "schizoaffective personality disorder?"

  • @blackacidlizzard I don't believe so no

  • @InTheEndIWasRight

Heh heh, I thought there was a word where there wasn't. Disregard.

  • @blackacidlizzard It's all good. Any thoughts on schizoid though?

  • Holy shit, I just looked at the chart a bit over halfway down the wiki page and I fit about 3/4 of the bullet points. Guess that makes sense, though.

My thoughts? "Normal" people really are quite fucked up, and often very uninteresting (I mean how bad does karma have to hate a person to make them fucked up in a completely boring way???)

I also think it's fucked that in order to seek to change your mood or personality in an acceptable way, you must be declared "ill." What does that do us?

  • @blackacidlizzard Yea I fit all of it pretty much, especially that chart thing at the bottom. I've always been this way so it's hard for me to say, though I've always kinda know I was "different" but I never really cared. And I agree, I rather like being the way I am for the most part since I find if I was "normal" I'd consider myself "lame" in my own view. I don't do a lot of the things most people my age do or like to do and I'm fine with that.

  • @blackacidlizzard Schizoaffective Disorder is no a personality disorder. Its an Axis-I psychotic diagnosis like schizophrenia.

  • @PsychopathicSchizoid

Yeah, I had thought I had seen "scizoaffective personality disorder" where I actually didn't.

So, there's at least one doctor who's willing to give a schizoaffective diagnosis without any reported hallucinations.

  • I'm sure most of these so-called mental disorders are made up.

  • @Guncriminal

They're categories. Boxes drawn through a landscape which is virtually fractal. They have utility.

  • I thought it was classified as a personality disorder. Isn't "therapy" the only thing that might help with that?

  • Comment removed

  • inaccurate statement removed

  • @dadrogon Most forms of psychotherapy will not address the schizoid trait itself and when present is usually worked around.

  • @PsychopathicSchizoid What is the "treatment" for it then, if any really?

  • why are you studying psychology? Is religious studies booked?

  • Most introverts would probably think they are schizoid to some extent. And since the diagnostic criteria are, imo, a little vague, it's easy to identify oneself with it. That's why the new DSM will eliminate most PD labels and replace them with sort of a rating system for personality traits. It's probably easier to look for assistance for specific problems that bug rather than trying to "cure" SPD. Hope I didn't miss the topic with this comment.

  • @Sphair0n Nah that helps me understand how things might play out, it's all good.

  • @Sphair0n Most introverts would fit the schizoid criteria in the DSM however most would not fit the personality disorder criteria which everyone seems to skip over. When DSM-V hits the insurance I'll probably be promoted to schizophrenic.

  • @PsychopathicSchizoid What would be the PD criteria in specific? Because I think I'm confused as to which is which.

  • checkout my mental health playlist

  • Sounds about right

  • @chitchcott In regards to what?

  • @InTheEndIWasRight In regards to having the symptoms. With effort though, i think it's possible consciously override it to an extent. Eg, that hypnosis thing from Mr Faulk actually seemed to help a little.

  • @chitchcott Sorry I'm a little confused, do you mean I have the symptoms or you do?

  • @InTheEndIWasRight me, of course

  • @chitchcott Oh ok. Do you mind having the "disorder" or are just indifferent to it? Because from what I've read it sounds like me, but personally I didn't care about changing really or however to word it.

  • @InTheEndIWasRight Personally I have a bit of a problem with the word "disorder"; I do fine in this world, better than most I think, so why is this personality branded a "disorder"? Like you I don't particularly care or feel the need to change - it doesn't mean you can't interact with people. I think it may have some benefits as well; the lack of emotional attachment to our arguments in general kind of makes the bigger picture (and people's agendas) more coherent - as far as I feel.

  • @chitchcott Yea I agree, that's why I put it in quotes. Yes I can interact with most people just fine, in fact others say I have very "good" social skills, but I dont think so. While maybe I can interact I really don't like doing so. And I also agree on emotions. Any other thoughts?

  • @InTheEndIWasRight I relate. At least we have the interwebs.

  • @chitchcott Quite true

  • @chitchcott Schizoid is a disorder not because how it effects the individual but how the individual affects others. The schizoid borders on two domains psychosis and psychopathy and when a schizoid is stressed that is where they head. The schizoid can be total unaware of their behavior because their feels are repressed-- emotions are a safety net and without them right and wrong have little meaning.

  • I know three people with schizoid personality disorder. They're all me.

  • got told i had it, then told i didnt, then told i might have it but cant be sure... then thought i couldnt be arsed listening to any more masturbation.

  • Go to a local VA Hospital you will learn everything for your project.

  • It's "schizoid".

I have it. The funny thing is, the worse you have it, the less of a problem it is to you because you just don't care enough. I do care so it's a serious issue for me.

Theres a forum that looked pretty good to me (I'm not a frequent visitor):

    schizoids (dot) net

  • @utuebmakeustupid Yea I always mess it up, I think either because I cant spell for shit or because of how I say it. From what I know of it, it sounds like me a lot that's why I chose it for my project. And yes I'll give it a look, I've recently heard of it.

  • I used to think I had this disorder, but after some extensive introspection I changed my mind. As there hasn't been very much research done on the disorder, there aren't really any treatments available. Those who truly have this PD aren't normally responsive to antidepressants or anti-axiety meds. Therapy doesn't seem to have any affect either. There's a super-secret Schizoid community with lots of good resources and first-hand accounts of those going through treatment. Link coming...
