  • I would like to bring it to everyone's attention that The Yellow Payges have several albums up on iTunes.

  • Really? That's interesting. Who has made them available? The band? A record company? I've never really used iTunes. I guess I'm rather old fashioned, as the idea of paying for music that you never actually get--in physical form, I mean--is just not very appealing to me.

  • I just met their drummer at my school today! He was at a blood drive?

  • Love the song "The Two Of Us" so much!

  • Geez. My friend and I used to go to the Hullabaloo Club on Sunset most weekends to see the Yellow Payges as the house band. This sure brings back memories.

  • John Knox was in this band for a while. Anyone remember The U.S. Males? or Burnside?

  • The YP version of "I'm a Man" is great too - lots of energy.

  • a favorite band for the internet radio channel technicolor web of sound that plays yellow payges and thousands more bands and album cuts from both bands who made it and got forgotten. check it out!

  • Great songs! Hopefully, "We Got A Love In The Makin' " will make it here someday too,

  • seen this band in 69.never thought Id hear this song again.thanks a bunch!!!!

  • Real good stuff from another band deserving more attention.

  • I don't know about the first two songs, but the second two the Yellow Payges didn't play on. They are Tommy Cogbill productions recorded at the famous American Studios in Memphis. This band played on some of the best songs of the late sixties. Suspicious Minds, Son of A Preacher Man, Sweet Caroline, In the Ghetto, Angel of the Morning, The Letter, Cry Like a Baby, just to name a few.

  • I'd say these musicians were a cut above what was happening in regional studios. The beat if 'perfecto' and the singin good, too.

  • "I'm A Man, Here 'Tis," "The Two of Us" and "Devil Woman," rock and roll jams that always cheer me up. Then there was "'Moonfire," soulful and moody, very cool. Perhaps one day those lost tracks recorded for their second album might surface. We can only hope.

  • @Jimmy61stl I found "Moonfire" at a book sale in Asbury Park, NJ for 10 cents, in near-mint shape. I can upload it if you'd like.

  • @HarvestmanMan Good find! 10 cents, and you can't go wrong. Even better if it is in good to mint condition worth a bit more I'm sure, especially to a collector. I have the album in my collection, but I am certain it would provide an entertaining and interesting listen for anyone that was looking for, or stumbling across, the few Yellow Payges bits that have been put up. If you do, attach it to a response to this video, and more people can enjoy it.

  • The Yellow Payges were very prolific. I have 15 of their 45s and by far "Two Of Us" is the best of the lot. "Finger Poppin' Party" would probably be a close second, as is their earlier single for Cameo Parkway. Wonderful stuff.

  • Wow, been search for this for years.

Had a 45 of Vanilla on My Mind that I played and played and played.

    Many thanks for posting this!

  • My first concert in 1969 was TOMMY JAMES & THE SHONDELLS, THE CLIQUE and THE YELLOW PAYGES in San Antonio. We put cotton in our ears as we'de never head anything that loud before. I was only 12 and went on to a career in radio. No doubt music like this had a big impact. Thanks for posting.

  • The Yellow Payges performed in Brownsville, Texas at the Jacob Brown Auditorium and Texas Southmost College gym! I was there for both performances. Bill Hamm was incredible. Really influenced my guitar playing.

  • This was one of the covers my band played in 1970 and also one of of the most requested songs at gigs! I loved playing it because I got to used my wah-wah! Ha! I still have the original LP I purchased in Brownsville, Texas at a Gulfmart!

  • I got the 45 of "Finger Poppin' Party" at a booksale in Ocean Grove, NJ (right next to Adbury Park) for 10 cents. VG+ condition, but something was ripped off the label :(

  • My neighbor back in the early 70's had a step-father who was a DJ. He brought her a stack of 45s from the station to keep. I remember listening to "Follow The Bouncing Ball" by The Yellow Payges. Another great song. Not on UNIversal

Records, though. I remember the label for that song being a dark color - mostly black, I believe.

  • FInally found them!....Hey guys...I was the set up man at Paramount Recording Studios in Hollywood...for your sessions...I 'm glad to hear your sounds once again!!-Gerry

  • Cool song. I'm too young to remember these guys but I know Daniel Hortter personally. He forwarded this link to me. Very cool. Wish I could have seen them play.

  • fuckin' love this song! Makes me want to throw a TV out of a hotel window!

  • I guess you're talking about "The Two of Us," right? Somehow I doubt "Never Put Away My Love for You" would ever inspire violence.

Seriously, I love this band. In my alternate fantasy life I WAS IN the Yellow Payges.

  • I had the 45 at one time.. UNI 55176 was the stock number..and can order it, but evidently did not make the top 40..but it did get some airplay around 1970, i think..

  • where's the song SLOW DOWN?

that's the only song i remember by Yellow Payges..... otherwise, good stuff, didnt know the group had these gems...

  • Never heard of "Slow Down."

  • "Slow Down" was a good song. One of their last singles on Uni circa 1969.

  • I am still trippin on the Yellow Payges. Knowing the Gormans growing up, living on the same street and being exposed to musical talent and the Yellow Payges as a young kid was more influencial then they could ever know! I played my Yellow Payges album so much growing up I wore it out and found/bought a pristine replacement album earlier this year. I am 46 now but what an era... even if I was just a kid!

  • I got vanilla on my mind.

  • Cool Stuff. I remember seeing these guys at the Hullabaloo Club and liking them. Glad they are getting some attention again.Old Rockers never fade away thanks to sites like this.Check out the Yellow Payges and the Liverpool Five on this same site.

  • I remember seeing them at the Hullabaloo also, we went every weekend! I remember going to a promo party on Doheny for them also.. long time ago 1966 or so. Do you remember the other bands that never made it? And I do remember seeing The Doors before they were famous there at the Hullabaloo. A couple of my friends and I worked upstairs at the club, we watched the Beach Boys practice with George Harrison watching them, that was awesome.

  • I've got this album spinning right now, it's quite fantastic. What a drummer!!! this alum totally rocks!

  • Wow! So cool. Very heavy for that time. Does Little Steven ever play them on the Underground garage?

  • These guys often played house parties in the Hollywood Hills in the late 60's. Too bad they signed up with the Telephone Co. to do jingles, that screwed them up I think.

  • karmices...

just wanted to clarify that we never performed at any house parties in the hollywood hills or anywhere else for that matter. we did however, attend many. we were on the road from 67 - 70 and when we were home we performed at the hullabaloo club. i do agree with you that the at&t contract was a bad decision and contributed to our demise.

    PEACE...

    Dan Hortter

  • Dan- Thanks. I thought you guys played a big house party in the Hollywood Hills, I must be wrong. Maybe Im think of label mates, The Hook.

  • Hi Karmices, did you spend any time at the Hullabaloo?

  • No, sadly I wasn't around during that time. I'm 30 years old but have a taste for the 60s So-Cal bands, Yellow Payges, Orange Colored Sky, The Hook, Popcorn Blizzard, East Side Kids etc etc.

  • Our band Sacred Irony opened for The Yellow Payges twice in 1969/70 in Winston-Salem,NC.

Once at The Carolina Theatre and then with Bobby Sherman at The Benton Convention Center.

We were so impressed with the Amps and the band(Bill Ham, lead guitar) we soon had Marshalls and were loud as heck after that.

Thanks for posting-is Dan still around?

  • Yeah, hes still around, and 61.

Still picks up his harmonica on occasion.

  • Thanks, they were a real inspiration for us- they really seemed Hollywood to us- I really loved Vanilla On My Mind. I have a couple of 45's on that. I always wondered why it wasn't on the LP.

  • Hi Keith,

I am indeed still around. I remember you guys very well. Do you still perform? Doug from the Sams sent me a live recording that someone did of us from the Bobby Sherman show. It turned out pretty good considering the technology back then. Winston-Salem was a great venue for us. I am retired & live in Arizona. Have 5 kids and 5 grandkids with a 6th on the way. Life has been more than generous to me. Anyway, just wanted to touch base and say hi.

    Peace,

    Dan Hortter

  • The lead singer is my dad, how the hell did you find this stuff? He barely has anything.

  • Hmm...I don't really remember where I picked up these 45s, but they're not particularly rare.

  • LOL

  • Volume 1 is one of my favorite records. I wish I could afford to buy the import CD!

  • Ft. Worth boys Bill Ham and Donnie Dacus (at different times) on git-tar.....

  • I saw this band in a traveling show produced by Dick Clark. They were at the coliseum in Brownwood, Texas. Nice show. Wish I could remember the name of the other band in the show, which was also awesome.

  • ...I take that back... I was about 8 years old when I watched these guys practice but remember it well!

  • My god!! I use to watch these guys practice in the drummer's (Danny Gorman) garage on Killion St. in North Hollywood. I was only about 10 years old at the time! This is the music that eventually lead me to heavy rhythm stuff like Sabbath and all other heavy metal. They should have made it big... what a cool sound they had! Thanks Danny! You kill it on the drums and you know it! Thanks for posting this 'myrecordcollection'! What a gem. I have it on vinyl but played it to death as a kid LOL.

  • Very cool! Sounds like you had a great time.

  • Well a as an 8 or 9 year, I guess but it was so long ago... I am now 46! But sure I do remember being amazed by them and hearing them play outside Danny's garage studio at his parents house. I think I only saw them rehearse once but got to watch danny bang his kit many times solo.

  • For a moment there, at 7:29, I thought they were going to launch into the Beatles' "You Like Me Too Much."

  • hahaha very true my friend!

  • Glad you are giving exposure to the more obscure bands. Many thanks.
