  • He's talking about 70mph being the general max cruise speed you want to maintain for safe long distance riding. With a top speed of 110mph you don't wanna cruise at 90mph all day long. They are hella dependable, but not bulletproof. KLR's are made to cruise at around 5k rpm's. 70mph you are at about 5300.

  • i have an 09 klr as well, cant wait to do this ride. but in two weeks im heading east to do the dragons tail and the blue ridge mountains.

  • I just bought my KLR 3 days ago , I got it up to 90 but it has a little head shaking at that speed I need to get that fixed , but other than that its a great bike , nice power off the line , I love it , but its not something to take on a 6 lane freeway , great for riding winding roads in the mountains

  • does a KLR accelerate reasonably well?

like merging and goin35 to 65

  • is that a Ram gps mount?

  • Yes - Ram all the way around. Made for TomTom Go 730.

  • how fast does this go on the highway?

i live in central oregon and im torn between a ninja 250 or this bike as my next purchase. top highway speed is going to be a huge factor for me.

    thanks.

  • Then you don't want this bike. She doesn't really like sitting at more than 70mph. I've cruised on the interstate at 80 and it wasn't happy. This bike will probably be faster around town though, it's power range hits lower than your 250. It's an adventure bike after all mate :)

  • @xplorwest Wtf are you talking about...70 mph. My KE 100 cruises at 70 lol. If you're getting head shake above 70 then adjust the front end. These bikes were made for serious abuse. That's one reason why people swear by them. The big KLR will glady cruise at 100.

  • I'd agree with xplorwest - great bike for adventure, but 70 mph is really the max cruise and you are at 5300 rpm already. Really great on dirt roads - see my other vids..

  • @chrish4ku 70 mph max cruise ? My KLR 250 has cruised at 90 mph all day for years. The big KLR can cruise at 100 and easily take the abuse. It should top out at 110-115.

  • @sk84gs I have owned both, the klr is the best choice..

  • @sk84gs Don't listen to this guy. The Ninja 250 is a toy. The big KLR in capable hands can ride with the big dogs. It cruises well above 70 lol.

  • Glad you bought the faster blue one :)

The GPS unit cost as much as the motorbike!

  • the red is the faster lol

  • Nice KLR man.

  • Great video! I loved riding up Skyline then back up HWY 1.. Always stopped by Half Moon Bay for some clam chowder and brew on the way home..

  • What kind of video camera did you use?

    GREAT video by the way!

  • Hi - used a digital camera. Nothing special - and didn't drop it on the pavement.
