yeesh she didn't even play the thing. Tip for beginners if you push on the reed with the bottom of your mouth a bit when you play it doesnn't take as much air to play.
Ive been playing the saxaphone for years and I play the alto and It looks a lot diffren then mine! My dad says mine looks a lot diffrent then when he played beacuse it was a long time ago. Why do they keep changing the look?!?
@mister00125 I guess it would depend on how tall the player is. If they're short enough to where it will sit on the floor (like a little kid or shorter adult?), then they wouldn't need a strap, but someone taller would unless they slump over because the weight of the alto has to be somewhere other than your hands (because you use both to finger the keys). The only exception would be the soprano, but maybe the bigger saxes CAN be played w/o a strap. I have a tenor, and wouldn't try it w/o.
@TenorSax123 YUP Mitch Kaplan is my favorite. he has 7 cd's if you like his stuff...he is "nationally known" according to his bio...he must be good. This shit is a mockery of Music Education. and these kind of "teachers" arent just online...these kinds of people have real teaching jobs too...and people wonder why music programs get cut....
@RJA10001 i know :) i was just pointing out why someone would. Its so you can support the weight of the instrument on your neck so your hands are freer to play.
as you play sax i now think that was a rhetorical question so sorry :)
@RJA10001 As a tenor player, you probably just let the sax sit on the floor, which is fine if you always play sitting down, same as a guitarist, who has his/her leg upon which to set the guitar. But when you stand, you can't support its weight and play at the same time. But with an alto, I'd think the neck strap is needed even when sitting because its not tall enough to reach the floor.
It beautiful jazz! Have you ever heard of jazz house compositions Valerio Minicillo? The First, Crazy Funky, wow! There is a wonderful video, which is LA MAGIA DEL SAX !
@meggie10Jubes i cant wait until i finally get enough money to get my new alto sax and learn to play i also play drums but i want a wind instrament too :)
oh my god. i knew that like as soon as i picked it up, its really not that hard to put your hands on the keys that are practically labeled on their parts.
@GJediAR No such thing as a left handed sax as far as I know... I've never seen one. Tried to Google it and couldn't find it... Maybe there is one out there somewhere in the world... But it's not really needed. I am sure there are a lot of lefties out there playing regular saxes successfully...
Acturally what she is saying is true.. if you keep your hands relaxed it makes it easier playing little runs. And I learned from my band director, but he's been playin saxophone since he was 4 and now he's 54 soo yeah I'm sure he knows more about it then the 1 year people...
ok ive been playing for a year and now in 7th but im already playing high school music like 10th 11th grade and the place u put ur fingers r right but ya like she put her right hand too high and then slid it down i bet she was just taught b4 she made this video..... really dont trust this video. find a private teacher find a band director! any1 who knows how to play sax that ur sure of! dont trust this hoarder! ps she looks like a hoarder lol

Sorry man but fact is she doesnt know what shes doing. I dont know how long you've been playing but even a beginner with a small bit of experience would know she has awful technique.
I've been playing for about 14 years now. I dare say I have a good idea of what I'm doing. I just think what you're saying is too harsh. And trust me, I would be all for criticizing if this video were that bad. I just feel that I need to balance your initial comment. Her technique may be bad and all that, but if a beginner took what she said and applied it, they would do alright. How many kids learned to play saxophone from a band director that was primarily a trumpet player or something?
I see what your getting at. She's teaching it like.....7th grade spanish where they talk in infinitives. Its wrong, but it initially teaches you and you upgrade it later. Maybe a terrible analogy but thats what I consider it to be. Esta bien expert village pero se recomiendo que enseñen mas mejor.
@greenbayfan37, she didn't say the octave key produces the lower notes. She said to rest your thumb on the non-moving part when playing in the lower register, aka not holding down the octave key.
0.47-0.49 she puts her right hand too high on the saxophone then moves down to find the keys. this proves that she has no idea what she is talking about.

Now remember kiddies it's important to shake your hand and have it go limp before putting it on the saxophone. That way you know how to hold the fucking saxophone........
Im not sure how its really spelled but its just like mouth control kinda, it could be because your lips and mouth are too loose when you play it depends, but when I started out I couldn't stop squeeking for like 3-4 months but embrasure comes with experience so continue to practice and soon that squeek thing won't even be a factor.

man i satarted saxaphone like today and can somone cut the bullshit and tell me of any vids or anything whare it cuts the shit and gives some good advice (i am verry familier with sheat music)
I'm the same situation as UzamakiNaruto96 I've played cello for 5 years so I'm very familiar with notated music. I've been doing Sax for a year but I have to improv a song from a G Major backing Track. (Though G Major is a fairly easy key to play in getting the notes to sound "jazzy" with the backing chords is irritatingly difficult)
You can make anything sound good. You just have to search for the notes. Just because it's in G major doesn't mean you only have 7 notes to choose from, it just means that's where the root is.
it's not that. it's that the backing switches from G Major to A minor every 4 bars, to notice that is very hard. And i use the octave and High D (over octave C) so i think thats around 16 notes or something. But now I'm on improv on G blues, C blues, F blues AND D blues. Big one in Christmas.
G maj to A min is diatonic, you aren't changing keys at all. G maj and A min are the same technically, since A min is just the IImin7 of G maj. Have you had any theory training? I recommend you look into it. It'll really open up your improv.
Yes i'm only grade 2 theiry but i understand how keys work but I already forgot about my A minor-G major song. I know it is the same but you start on the A not the G. I'm not amazing at theory but i can get my head around scales and time, and key signatures, intervals and tones and semitones (minor 3rd, perfect 4th, perfect 5th etc.). Like I said if you have any tips for Blues scale pentatonic I'll gladly take your advice BECAUSE i have finished my G major piece OK.
Shouldn't have to hear it to know it's supposed to be there.
But anway, any tips for a blues scale... hmm. Yes. #4 (b5) sounds good. I don't really know how to give tips for scales, since they're just fundamentals. Play them with your metronome set to 60 beats per minute, then every day increase the speed by 1 number. Yes, just one. It's long, but your scales become really clear.
its not easy, but with effort you can learn. the hardest part about learning the sax is getting perfect embouchure, which is the way you position your mouth on the mouthpiece and reed. once you get that playing the sax will be fun and easy.
the octave key is also the register key i play a song called galactic conflict, american folk song portrait, pirates of the carribean, jurrasic park and others if anybody knows a band teacher named mark paqutte please send a note to my account name because he is my band teacher.
These videos are helpful for the first two days of playing. However, since it is for the absolute beginner maybe she could focus on what buttons make what notes?
Agree. I started 44 years ago. Oh, and a women's place is in the kitchen. And no cookery videos please. Anyway you shouldn't be reading this - get back to practising!!!
excuse me? a womens place is anywhere she wants to be. i dont know how old you are.. but if you started 44 years ago youre ancient. times have changed. and i bet you anything a woman could kick your elderly ass anyday of the week.

I play guitar at the moment so do you think it would be easier for me when fingering the keys on a sax?

i wanna learn sax but it looks hard. mann i love kenny g.

its not easy, but with effort you can learn. the hardest part about learning the sax is getting perfect embouchure, which is the way you position your mouth on the mouthpiece and reed. once you get that playing the sax will be fun and easy.

Eh, it's not that hard, I've been playing it for 3 years now at school. First chair ^^.
