  • I just did this into a urinal.

  • I found this out last week when I was disposing various shampoo and body wash now the drain. I thought it was so amazing that I called my brother and told him about it. I thought I came across something not many people knew about, and I was apparently right!

  • Anyone else notice that the music was from the windows xp setup screen? (On xp, search the windows directory for a .wav or .mp3)

  • Nice

  • Whats the name of the song?

  • PHYSICS!

  • yuk

  • Does this work with all Shampoos?

  • @SikStikly probably most

  • I'm going to be going through a LOT of shampoo...

  • Peter North

  • I think that's pretty lame that someone names something after himself that millions of us have probably observed during many a wasteful absentminded shower.

  • Don't forget to condition.

  • pretty interesting...my guess is that as the shampoo falls into the heap, the outer layer of shampoo dries and thus hardens slightly. add this effect with the natural surface tension of any fluid, it will create a small amorphous chamber, or deformed bubble if you will. as long as the stream of shampoo and the bubble are continuous, the flow of shampoo remains constant. as pressure builds up and as the bubble gets bigger, it bursts in a weak spot, releasing a jet of shampoo.

  • @S3R14LX no

  • @S3R14LX it explains it in the video...

  • zou je me dit in het nederlands kunnen uitleggen :$?

want ik moet dit proefje voor school doen maar snap het engels niet zo goed ! :$

    mvg. Nienke

  • LOL this music makes me think i'm watching a "documentary" on the details of ejaculation

  • The best part of this video is from [start time] to [end time].

    AHAHAHAHAHA!

    Still a comedy genius.

  • @whatevil Play Freebird LOLOL.

  • @whatevil HAHAHA he said that the best part of the video is from [start time] to [end time], making it a whole video. It's so funny, I think I should give him thumb up, even though I saw such comment million times in other yt videos. But still it's so hilarious.

  • At least the music is better than JUSTIN BIEBER!

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

    I'm a comedy genius.

  • [X] number of people missed the like button!

    AHAHAHAHAH!

    I'm a comedy genius.

  • Somewhere in America, a Tea Partier is complaining that this is a prime example of wasteful government spending.

  • @PodMonkeyCWC Somewhere in the Netherlands, a PVVer is beginning to grind his axe to chop funding as well........

  • Head n Shoulders all day.

  • that's disgusting

  • -=WoW=- Just. Wow.

  • So, it was named after someone who couldn't offer an explanation for it?

  • @jenesuispasbavard That's who discovered it, moron.

  • "You know, this study is really excellent, but it's missing something. Get the lasers."

  • Also works with some liquid laundry degergents..

  • great, thanks, sweet video, hadn't heard of that effect before

  • now thats poetry

  • and I will now waste all the shampoo in the house.

  • aww skeet skeet skeet

  • I want to know how they discovered this effect. Who decided to pour shampoo like that?

  • @cristiline93 They probably just concluded that viscuous liquid would do that, and tried it with shampoo.

  • @cristiline93

then decided to keep pouring and observe it.

  • /watch?v=7XeBzxdCEEE

    Here.

  • Woot, 1 step closer to curing Cthulu cancer!!

  • /watch?v=1COTZm6J0AU

  • god daaaaamn motherfucking scientists

  • I'll show you a streamer ejecting.

  • /watch?v=1COTZm6J0AU nice =)

  • My Friend Thought I Was Watching A Porno...Haha!

  • WTF?

  • it kind of reminds me of a zit popping .

    ew.

  • The Kaye effect is found to occur with surfactants, such as shampoo which have distinctly different surface tension qualities than water.

  • just got a boner

  • Could not be done better. Thanks!

  • I tried this and it works. It surprised me how well it worked too. I was shocked when it happened.

  • Would it work with honey or syrup? Perhaps hair conditioner? :P

  • WTF????

  • Why only shampoo? This single question make it fake or useless! Is there any uncertainty analysis?

  • Turn on the water in your sink with a spoon in it and you will get the same re-direction.

  • @gregrutz Not the same. It's the shampoo in this case that's causing the re-direction.

  • @gregrutz Not the same. It's the shampoo in this case that's causing the re-direction.

  • bouncing pressure wave... see chi

  • What purpose does this serve?

  • RELIGION!

  • lmfaooo

just made my day man xD

  • I'm glad, heretic.

    ;)

  • @u2ber87 WTF?

  • @u2ber87

Uh... I am pretty sure this has nothing to do with religion. If it does, then it has to do with how amazing and awesome God made physics! Where in the world did you get this idea?

  • Ah s this effect has a name. I noticed shampoo doing this while in the shower once. Wondered what it was. Now I know.

  • yeah its in the title and on a subtitle. Kaye effect.

  • What? When in the shower did you get a steady thin flow like this and a high sped camera?

  • Comment removed

  • you dont need a high speed camera to see it and sometimes it just happens when you pour it into your hand

  • Science !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This video is not working for me.. the screen keeps black and nothing plays

  • aha my disc was full

  • ok i know whatv to do when ive got lots of spare shampoo

  • did anyone else wish that they showed more of that colored laser thing?

  • crap i posted that as my brother's account. that was me lol

  • eyecube1? what kinda username is that?

  • eyeCube. The one was placed there because the website's register requires at least one digit in the username. The name "eyeCube" is also the name of my individual company of game making, eyeCube Productions. It has no other purpose as far as I know. Does that answer your question?

  • Yes, the Kaye effect. I'm doing a science fair report on this. Very interesting.

  • OK guys in case you're wondering this song is the Windows XP Installation Music. If you have XP the full version can be found here:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe\images\title.wma

  • Thanks!

  • did anyone else laugh at the part where it said "streamer ejects"?

    anyways. quantum mechanics ftw.

  • So very cool.

  • that kind of happens to me when i squirt hand sope in my hands.

  • XD just think of all the porn movies they're gonna make after finding this out

  • Nice Windows XP installation music lol

  • @turok4n64

haha, I knew I recognized it from somewhere! it's been a while...

  • This is also the music when you call Microsoft and they put you on hold. Win.

  • only geeks call microsoft to jerk off to their voices

  • very very fantastic moives!!

I got this moive while I am taking my project!

  • watching leaping shampoo seems to be a very good way of calming my wracking nerves down :) i have to try it; i think i'll have a bath right now, bye

  • wtf

  • WHY do i keep reading this as the "kanye" effect? maybe i expect the shampoo to turn into geeky sunglasses at some point

  • Isn't that the Windows XP sound track? :)

  • yea. funny choice

  • funnnnnnn

  • SCIENCE!

  • SCIENCE!

  • amazing!

  • *goes to the bathroom to get shampoo*

  • Great vid

  • Interesting! Kaye Effect.

  • wow i have done the same thing

  • looks like some sort of minamalist fountain. rather cool

  • The explanation seems to be the video's purpose...

  • wow that is so interesting! I'm not really into sciences but even I found that really cool! thanks so much for the vid!

  • Wow. That's really interesting. I liked this video a lot.

  • king wang zzang

  • awesome!

  • That's really interesting phenomenon - and the article about it even more.

BTW an IYPT problem for 2008...

  • awesome

  • would you be willing to send me this video file so I can show it to some students? Thank you!

  • Lekker!

  • strange

  • Haha, they used the Microsoft startup music! I.e. copyrighted material.

  • "Bringing Families Home"

    Really interesting stuff. Thanks!

  • Just curious...who wrote the background music?

  • it's the hidden windows music. look online on how to find it.

  • It's Brian Eno, I think...

  • we should do an experiment and see if we can do that with hawaiian punch

  • Has anyone ever applied the Kaye effect to sound waves? It seems like it'd be very cool if the outgoing jet was a reverb spawned from the initial note.

  • Are you stoned?

  • Cool video.

  • Amazing :)

Experiments were my favourite part of physics at school, and that's why :D

    Thanks for putting this up!

  • ...I'll never look at my mom's Tea Tree shampoo the same way again. O_o

  • too cool for school

  • Holy what the shit

  • GREAT excuse to bring girls in the tub.

  • From the fifty-five comments I have read, it seems that most of you don't understand what you have seen. Why do you try to make fun of it? If you didn't know what you were looking at, why did you write anything.

  • i once do kaye effect on chin of serb prostitute.

  • LOL

  • that's hilarious! i like

  • this always happens when i pee

  • Dunno what the song is called but it's the background music to the Windows XP install

  • Very pretty

  • its squirting on my tummy

  • newton's 3rd law ?

  • Ok, aside from a new doctorate, this is useful for... WHAT?

  • tocsa120ls: Exactly why does everything need to be useful? That being asked, it'll probably prove useful in coming science... Only my poor imagination hinders me in saying exactly what coming science it'll be useful for. :P

  • Pretty sweet...

  • what is this song called

  • The song is from the initial setup wizard in Windows XP. I have no friggin idea who wrote/performs it. Kind of reminds me of Aphex Twin's - Agiespolis.

  • Pretty sure its Brian Eno, dont know the song though

  • Very interesting.

  • Why shampoo?

  • Wow! Of all the things i've seen on the internets.. This is one of one them.

  • Amazing, the stream forms a heap and then bounces off the heap into a stream.

    Still no cure for cancer.

  • The last time I checked, there is still no cure for cancer.

  • best comment on here.

  • I've listen the music of this video when I installed Windows XP on my laptop.

    :D

  • I prefer wash my hair.

  • Microsofts first start music in a shampoo ad :DD

  • amazing!!!! i'll have to try it out ;-)

  • what kind of shampoo?

  • Caution: Do not attempt this with Prell, as atomic fission has been known to occur in some instances.

  • I didn't know about this effect before watching this video. Absolutely incredible.

  • omg fuckinbg weird!
