That's some scary shit right there...After watching alot of Bear Grylls, he made a human-flashflood and that looked intense!! let alone one made by nature not man..It has no safety rules, just pure chaos.
The water is black due to the ash and mud it consisted of. It is the product of seasonal monsoon rains and the Piute Fire that burned over 37k Acres in 2008. My division alone lost over 2 miles of hose & collateral.

That was a crappy day. I remember that. Now I don't live there anymore, so I don't have to worry about it. I am now 3000 miles away, but I have to come visit family still.
1:57...that would be one of those "Oh crap!" moments when you're parked on the road (inside talking with Bobby Sue at the diner) and see a big black puddle engulf your prized "Pick'em'up truck" as most people in the country would say...
Oh my gosh! I just spent the last 3 days on Lake Isabella, and I was staying in a tiny little home like 2 miles from the dam... If I had seen this video 2 days ago, I'd be a total nervous wreck!
The black is ash from the Piute Fire burn area upstream from where the video was shot. Thunderstorms formed over the fire area and dropped heavy rain in a short period of time.
@kzittlow be nice I lived up there for 19 years, i know it ain't the best place on earth but really, is any place better? I'm outta there now, but my parents and my in-laws are still there. I don't like to go back, but I still do because people I love are there. And no, they aren't into Meth and are not scumbags ( like some people I know....) and they aren't low lifes ( like, as I said, some people I know.....). Please

ya i live here and it was carzy but ya like valleytenderfoot said there was huge fires everywhere and we has several huge rains within like a week and brought all the ash down.. it was insane because this happened like 2 days in a row.
I believe there were wild fires upstream from this area which burned off the vegetation. Then it rained heavily and caused the flash flood, which was black from all the ash.
possibly peat marsh formed from dead vegetation that drowned in highlands from stagenent rain water that swalled then birst the soil that was pluging some mini lake so pete was carried from high lands giving it the dark colour !?
i lived in lake isabella when this happend and my house was literally about 100 yards away it was pretty crazy and ya it was in 2008,the names jeremy webb
This is what happens when you have a brush fire 20 miles away and then you have thunderstorms with torrential rain over the top of it...Massive flash flood! This is why the water is black,it is all ash and soot from the fire.
Bright sunshine? Take a look again...the shadows are all fuzzy. It was high overcast--what was left of the thunderstorm that caused the flash flooding.
Wow. That's a pretty graphic example of how dangerous sudden storm runoff can be, also why everyone should own a NOAA all-hazards alert radio and heed warnings when they are issued. Thanks for posting.

KC8YOQ 1 year ago
It ran into Lake Isabella the town and divided Lake Isabella from Bodfish which are 2 towns close to each other.
Than ran into a public park called tank park because of the memorial of Pearl Harbor and ending up in the Kern River.
Fucked up everything.

Is it water or mud and where did it come from? I love these views of Mother Nature doing her thing! Thanks for the info!

The video really shows how fast Mother Nature can send things sideways.
