I like Devil May Cry and Resident Evil, but Silent Hill was different for these reasons: One, the characters were actually realistic portrayals of human beings and weren't some Final Fantasy wet dream for otakus to beat off to. Also, the games touched more on serious issues such as drinking, child abuse, domestic violence, and bullying without fairy tale plots or "power of friendship" anime crap. Silent Hill was just an intelligent series. I like DMC and RE, but Silent Hill is much more unique.
I think this is a good indication of where games are at this generation, when there is more excitement for HD versions of old games rather than new entries into a series. The best games i have on my PS3 are MGS3 and Ico... And now silent hill 2. None of the new games can compare.

Thank god Guy Cihi got the original voices back for 2, which is why im thankful they are selling them seperately... Really tempted to get the HD collection for 360. Never played an SH game before, but have been watching some Let's Play's online and getting the urge to try it out. And the voice acting isn't great, but I compare it to Resident evil where the bad voicework is part of the cheesy fun.
Silent Hill 2 was the first game i bought for PS2 and the first i completed. I loved it. I don't know why people are bitching about the new voice acting, it actually sounds a lot better. The whole game is still the same but people dislike because they want their outdated stale voice acting back form the original? @RollAnotherJ Both 2 and 3 will have new voice acting with the option of having the old voices on 2. As for the HD part from what I can tell from screen shots it looks like they used a couple filters to give the game a bit of a cell-shaded look. All in all I'm looking forward to it ^_^

Eddie sounded so much better before. He sounded crazy in the earlier game, which is what made his whole story creepy! I wonder what Angela sounds like, because I thought her and Eddie had phenomenal voices. Other than that, everyone pretty much sounds the same.

Maria's new voice actress took the "seductive" element far too seriously. In the original - I have never felt so off-put by words before. The way she conveyed "I'm not your Mary." with such intensely subtle mockery was ... incredible.
I do like the new voice for James though. I'll probably end up doing a playthrough of each voice type anyway.

It didn't need new voice acting. Originally the lip movement was down around the voice acting, now the voice acting has to be done around the lip movement and it's not in sync. Sorry but give me the original, there was nothing wrong with it.

I like both the old and new performances. On one hand, everyone grew up with the old voices so they're the ones that'll be associated with the characters. On the other hand, I believe that the new voice actors play their characters a lot more realistically. That and I LOVE Liam O'Brien ^_^

Maria/Mary's voice actress sounds way past her expiration date, she can't portray a character who appears to be seductive and sexy at the same time with that kinda voice... Dahlia or Claudia, sure, but not Maria/Mary. The original voices were the best.

Not that these voices are bad but the originals were really charming given how 'off' they seemed. It added to the eeriness of the game. IMO Especially the prison scene with Maria. Her tone is just haunting.

It was creepy in how bad the originals were but they fit the sound and mood of the game. The original James Sunderland actor basically never acted before this game and hasn't done anything since, so the "bad" performance in his drooling monotone gave him a hollow and distant sound that makes him much creepier.
It's sad that most of you that hate on the new voices do so not because one is better than the other, but one is new and scarey.

I thought I would hate the new voice acting but it's kind of interesting. Not sure I'll play through the game with it. I never liked SH3 as much as 2 anyway so I don't really care if there's no option to choose the old voice acting in that one.

As a hardcore silent hill fan, I would just like to say that;
I am literally astounded that we've all found something so pointless to argue about.
The stupidity is only matched by the developers, who for whatever reason decided to propose re-recordings anyway.
I've seen several comparisons, and there is no significant difference; it doesn't change the effect which means 2 things:
1. People are stupid for caring which version gets chosen.
and 2. Developers are stupid for spending money on it.

the original voice acting worked really well. somehow they've managed to make it sound so cliche. if i buy this i wont be playing with the new voices, instead i'll opt for the original performances. these don't even look synched properly, but maybe that's cos of how i remember it. i hope it's not as bad for SH3, cos apparently that only has the option for the new voices... =/

Okay, bad voice acting in the past wasn't intentional people. It wasn't like that to make the game weirder, it was like that because it was done as cheap as possible. "OH BOOHOO THEY CHANGED THE VOICES" F@CK! They changed the voices in Resident Evil REmake, and that game is amazing. Will the voice acting really change how the game is played? No, it won't. It's the same game you know and love, and on the Silent Hill 2 game, you can use the old voice acting, so get over it.

Silent Hill 2 now have the original voices back.
BUT Silent Hill 3 they couldnt find Heather Morris,
the voice actress for Heather Mason. so Silent Hill 2
has been saved. but people that want Silent Hill 3

The Eddie guy with the gun doesn't sound nearly as young as he looks, but I've never played either game, so I really can't say. As to all the other people who are saying that the old voices are better, you're implying that you HAVE played the game, which means about 90% of you already own an original copy, so please don't dampen the fun for us noobs. P.S. I AM NOT HATING! I am speaking my mind on the subject.

I like both the old and new performances. On one hand, everyone grew up with the old voices so they're the ones that'll be associated with the characters. On the other hand, I believe that the new voice actors play their characters a lot more realistically. That and I LOVE Liam O'Brien ^_^

Maria/Mary's voice actress sounds way past her expiration date, she can't portray a character who appears to be seductive and sexy at the same time with that kinda voice... Dahlia or Claudia, sure, but not Maria/Mary. The original voices were the best.

Not that these voices are bad but the originals were really charming given how 'off' they seemed. It added to the eeriness of the game. IMO Especially the prison scene with Maria. Her tone is just haunting.

@Ingrownsage Listen to the original silent hill 2 opening intro and then this one. This... Umm, no. Sorry, but the voice acting in the original was better. It was creepy in how bad the originals were but they fit the sound and mood of the game. The original James Sunderland actor basically never acted before this game and hasn't done anything since, so the "bad" performance in his drooling monotone gave him a hollow and distant sound that makes him much creepier.
