Its good to see them starting from the high bar and then going to the low bar. you hardley see it anymore. now you see them go over the low bar to the high bar. And why dont any of the gymnast do the 1.5 bail like lori strong? ive never seen it till now.ANY BODY KNOW WHY?
Does anybody know if there is a deduction for waving your arms around , fighting to stick a landing? I have always wondered that, i know when i was an elite gymnast in 1998-99, my coaches always told me that there is a deduction for waving your arms around, whether or not you stick the landing. I have been watching some of these clips, and i have seen some fighting for the landings, but they still get a perfect score? How is that possible?
i am really disapointed !! I had never seen anyone do the 11/2 swing over to the low bar, and i was an elite gymnast in 1998 and that was the skill i was working on before i shattered both of my ankles on a full in on floor, i had actually planned to compete in the next national meet, and i thougt it had never been competed! well i guess that is how it goes though!
1. I would have just given Silivas the gold when she arrived at the airport. Regardless of anything, she was just hands down, the best gymnast in the world at that time.
2. For as much flack as they catch, these gymnasts had to be so much stronger on bars because it was imposiible to get the swing generated these days..and some of them are doing simultaneous releases after just a kip or giant.
i was born in 1988 during the olympics and when i was a kid i had only heard about these old gymnastics and read about them in my dad´s olympic book. thank you so much for giving us the younger generation the chance to see gymnastics like the are supposed to be and not robotic like they are today
It was a fan in the audience. The woman had been bending over reading the official program, and she lifted her head just has Daniela's hair walked by. Understandable reaction.
I'm curious what goes through the mind of girls like Lori Strong and so many others when they enter the AA knowing that to get the gold they'll have to beat Shushunova and Silivas. Maybe winning isn't the point but just doing a good job and not embarrassing yourself and your country by not, say, hitting the bars with your feet or something.
How is that possible that Laschenova so messed this AA? She was consistent, lovely, superb during her short carrier and the most important competition - Olympic AA - was so weak from her side...
I suppose Afro's is designated for blacks only. It looks funny and when I see old movies with people sporting afro's,I tend to laugh. Shit, I guess that makes me a racist.
Uh yes, seeing how that is our natural hair texture. No it doesn't make you racist, but it's a cultural thing and I can see why someone might find it offensive.
Afro is not just a hair style designated for blacks, there are plenty of whites,Puerto Ricans and other ethnic groups that wear this same style. Damn, if afro and nappy hair cannot be said to describe a style, then what the hell do you call an afro.Maybe the correct words would be kinky hair, extra curly hair. I guess when I see black people with straight hair, then I'll say that they have a nice white hair style.
Lashenova is definitely one of my favorites of all time, I wish she could have stuck around for '92. She had beautiful lines, and she was SO ADORABLE.
thnks for uploadin these gymangels. its so good to look back on the how much gymnastics has changed to what we know it as today. i was wonderin if u would upload the whole competitions from the 92 and 96 olympics,i cant find the whole competitions anywhere. im sure i wont be the only one who would want to see these =].
Yeah! Lori Strong was quite a technician! She showed some unique skills in the Olympics. I love Lachtchenova's clean bodyline. Shushunova's Bar routine was innovatively difficult, the release and dismount. At the time, as far as I remember only Shushunova could do that dismount.

On the bars did they not have to do inverted swings?

Amazing competiition. I remember watching it. Silivas should have won the gold. She was fantastic!

From certain angles when the camera is on her face, Laschenova sure reminds me of Alexandra Marinescu. Anybody else think so?

Does anybody know who was on floor when Daniela was on bars - she was using a different version of the same music Simona Amanar used in Atlanta.

That 1.5 bail from Lori Strong is 1 of my favorite ub skills ever...just so quick, cool n rare

I wonder if Lori Strong's UB mishap had contributed at all to the broken leg she later suffered on FX

Elena looks happy that Daniela stuck her landing on the UB didnt she........errrrrrrr

That was a pretty cool transition Dagmar Kersten did at 9:22. Has anybody else ever done that?

It sounded like they shouted Die!!! =S
DJT113 2 years ago 2
Lol. No the Russian teammates are basically yelling 'Stick'. I'm not sure of the spelling but it's sounds something like 'Stoy!'
faeryquene 2 years ago
I think her chest was too low on the landing which caused the hop - but it was still rather rude...

You want stupid American commentry rather than Barry Davies!!!
He has class, most american commentators are terrible, in golf they are unbearable

silivas's afro is so funny!
shermanator123 3 years ago
That's an offensive remark-especially to those of African descent who may wear such styles. Silivas' hair was a perm-granted not a very good one.

Oh come on people lighten up a bit!
TuesdayPillow 3 years ago 2
Sorry-but I have relatives of African descent-and that remark was offensive to me.
