My only problem is: why doesn't he sing the original lyrics? "If your path at midnight by a graveyard GOES" to rhyme with "Mose", not using "alone" as he does. Does it again, too. Whatsup?
@hotfingerstrio But believe me, very good performance. My beloved New Leviathan Oriental Fox Trot Orchestra does a good version of this: I think Doyle also wrote the delighful "Egyptian Ella" and of course, the absosluty classic, "Leena, the Queen of Palesteena. "
It's interesting that you rarely hear the excellent extended lyrics by Ted Weems & Orch such as, “ The detectives are defective when it comes to tracing him but I bet ya he’ll get ya if you don’t watch out for him....” I believe this music should remain liquid and flexible. As long as these classics aren’t dumbed down or made vulgar I think it’s OK to change words and make creative additions as they pass from generation to generation. So, can we watch Mysterious Mose by the NLOFTO on YouTube?
Best rendition I've heard. excellent but is this really Jazz and not Ragtime? it seams too fast for blues but it doesnt' quite sound like Jazz either. does anyone know what it is properly?
A tremendous showstopping performance of Walter Doyle's graveyard classic. All the bells and whistles are used to full effect; great vocals and banjo from Langham and fantastic solos from Nick Gill on piano and Debbie Arthurs on percussion. (Notice how the latter gets a much bigger reaction because it signals the time to applaud that much more clearly.) Gill and Arthurs are featured on a new CD by the Byzantines, "Mr. Exstein's X-Ray Ears"... there's graveyard humor there too.
Great stuff. Check out Andy Cohen's version on youtube as well.A solo performance that really get's the spirit of the thing.

Just a case of mixed up words but well spotted. You can get Spats performing the correct lyrics on our CD 'Night Owl'!
