  • What memories this brings to me,,just wonderful.Thanks.....

  • I loved the band track of this song too. It was on the flip side of the 45. Is this version available anywhere except on my scratchy 45

  • Good dystopian anthem.

  • I remember buying this, around the same time as I bought "Son of my Father" by Chicory Tip. Ah, those were the uncomplicated days! * Sigh! *

  • What doe's this remind me of, happy days, sheepskins, crombie's,brouges, riding boots, white socks.ben sherman, brutus, doc martins, monkey boots levi stay press, jungle greens good music and much much more, r yes, those were the days, long gone, but never forget, all the best to all the old skins out there, there is no culture now,a piece of history that should be cherished forever, I almost forgot brut aftershave

  • Lenny Lenny Lenny... Lenny Henry Show... did Lenny get permission from you for that, JK?

  • I am astounded this was from 1971! I thought it was from the 80s or 90s.

  • i guess i should thank the folk who made this song for teaching me how to fake a cockney accent haha

  • I thought this song was rather amusing. Basketball "boots"? I suppose they did have odd terms like that in 1971. (I've also heard "high tops" referred to as "high heel sneakers".)

  • QUALITY FROM 71!!!Loved this so much

  • Clap hands here comes Charlie. Here comes Charlie now, reggae reggae

  • to my uncle John xx Rip

  • I always thought this had a ring of Wendy Richard ['Come outside' era].

  • I love this song

  • Just started my secondary school when this came out!

  • Aah This never gets old!

  • i remember this when i first joine forces. Loved it. Forget what he has done now, at the time it was a great song.

  • i am sure i see a cartoon version on top of the pops to accompany this song when this was first released,

  • yes! yes! yes!

    thank YOU!

one hour ago I danced ti this song!

  • I love this . Let's not get carried away , this isn't meant to be Shakespear , it just is what it is . Believe me when I say , I would rather own this than every rap , funk , rock, modern , single ever made ...Really

  • and he looks me in the eye when he shoots.... brilliant

  • ...I searched for this because I've had the song in my head since the new sauce came out, can't stop singin it

  • I used to have this on a Top of the Pops record called Top of the Tots! It also had Chirpy, Chirpy, Cheep, Cheep and Lily the Pink amongst other great songs. I played it endlessly.

  • When I was a kid we went to this cabin type place and it had a copy of that record there.

I remember it being laughably bad hahaha.

  • I remember this from my childhood...although I was only 3 when it was released!

    It's so bad, it's good!

  • CHRIST, is EVERYTHING on You Tube? I put Johnny Reggae into a search just to test it!

  • I CAAAAAAAANT GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD.

  • Ben Sherman shirts, Crombies Doc Martins and the faithful sword stick, BOOOYAAAAAA!

  • thanks for the post,..,

  • Yeah we know its a novelty but its one of the few songs that mention what we used to wear -- I was a boot boy in Tipperary Town in the early 70's wearing Frank Wright loafers (from Leavys in Limerick £7.50) with Wrangler parallels and a Harrington jacket. And a big f*ck of to the tossers who wore blackthorn loafers with flares

  • I remember this when I was at Fire Service Training centre Reigate in Jan- Mar 1972 and someone did get the nick name ...Oh happy times!

  • Good Dayz - memories from many years ago . Cheerz

  • was this really Adrienne Posta? No way... Great song though...I wonder what all the skinheads thought about this...!

  • No Valtojos - and Adrienne is indeed gorgeous, we were good friends in the 60's - it was not her nor Wendy Richards but session singers coached to sound like teenage scrubbers.

  • When are we going to see the Angelette "Don't Let Him Touch You" on here? I'm sure you're hiding it somewhere!

  • @flairbird1965

    i remember that!

looks like only me and you can remember it.i am sure it was played on luxembourg.but radio 1 wouldnt touch it

    kev sunderland

  • I was 13 when this charted. I was on the back of Ska music - skinhead moonstomp etc. Thanks for this, it brings back the fading memories.

  • This record had nothing to do with the skinhead movement or Ska ...... it was a novelty record bought by Schoolkids ....

Real Ska is good, this is a corny pastiche and should NOT be related to proper Skinhead music .... ie it's crap !

  • I was about 10 when this was out .There was a teacher that always sang it and now when i hear it ( it was on the radio last week ) I always think of her :))

  • I was quite young myself coolit!

  • Great to hear that again. I remember sitting in the spare room of my grandparents' flat waiting for it to come on Pick Of the Pops. I must have been eight years old!

  • yeah it does sound like pauline fowler(aka wendy richards)

  • Thank's for this. It's wery nice.

  • Great tune this I particuly like the bit when she sings'Looks me in the eye when he shoots' Wot can she mean????:-)

  • Because it comes straight after 'he's crazy about football', when I was a kid I thought it meant he looked at her when he was shooting at goal. Never such innocence again...

  • It's Lay It On Me.

  • I'm sure it's 'light on me'.

  • This is such a cute song, I'm surprised that nobody has sought to cover it (I'd like to hear Atomic Kitten do a versh of it).

  • Oh yes. Lil McClarnon would sing it so well, and so sexily.

  • classic jhonathan king stick to being a dj

and lets put this back in the clucking awfull archives

  • The Piglets were all session singers with JK on falsetto in the choruses. The lead was Barbara Kay.

  • Thanks for debunking the myth that Adrienne Posta was lead singer.

  • Sorry mate not session singers but the gorgeous Adrienne Posta

  • @KingOfHits2007 Barbara Kay went on the make catalogues.

  • Many thanks for posting jonathan - But who was female singer?

  • No it's not Pauline Stomp! Now go have a coffee!

  • haven't heard this for 35 years. god transported back to the age of 10!

  • Bloody hell why I am listening to this? Well its sort of nostalgic.

  • One of the first 45's I bought; the ''b'' side was an instrumental dub version (sans vocals)

  • I remeber this song being in the Discos and the Skinheads loved it! Over the years i have liked a lot of Jonathan Kings stuff-without always realising that it was him. I cant stand him though- even pre"kids" Thnanks for posting!

  • This may be the very worst song ever released.

  • As bad as it is , it is still better than just about every song released in the past 20 years . I'd rather have this , than every rap , grunge , dance , rock , etc etc etc .

  • I so disagree.

  • he might be a prat but i liked his music. anyone know where i can get "hooked on a feeling" i believe that was another one of his songs.

  • my very first 45´´. still love it.

  • this takes me back to late 71 , i was 15 and newly decked out in a crombie, sta prest trousers , ben sherman shirt , braces and of course doc marten boots ,

  • you forgot tank tops 2tone tonic and of coarse not forgetting brut yes i was there a suedehead those were the days, my kids think it histerical there mum a skinhead im 51 now lol

  • you forgot tank tops 2 tone and not forgetting brut, those were the days as a suede head

  • I was a tasty geezer!

  • It's on CD4 of my Box Set AllKinds... and you can download it for a mere 79p from WeDontDoAlbums dot com!

  • Thanks JK

  • Any chance of resurrecting the version of "People Will Say We're In Love" by Bubblerock. It's not on any compilation, and my vinyl single is worn out!

  • No, cdb, it WASN'T Wendy though it does sound like her. She was on Come Outside and the Mike Sarne hits but I used session singers for this (plus me in falsetto in the choruses).

  • wendy richards from east enders was and is the original singer

  • the singer was wendy richards , stomp73 yes you were right ,you have a good ear ,, take care sir

  • Can anyone post Loop Di Love by Shag?

  • Jeez I remember this, Iwas one of the first skinheads in our town :o), Say was'nt JK also known as Johnathan Kongas and did Tokaloshi Man???????

  • JK You made som many pop classics...I bought this and loved it in 71. Then in 76 I bought '100 Ton & A Feather' 'Only takes a minute'. That reminds me of that hot Summer of 76. I was only 11...What memories eh?

  • What a pop classic from 1971. JK you have made some great pop recoeds for my youth. I bought '100 Ton & A Feather' 'Only takes a minute' back in 1976. I was 11 then and it reminds me still of that really hot summer.....wasn't pop great back than eh?

  • Thank you Michael for your (and all the other) kind comments.

I'll be putting together a Loop di Love video in due course.

  • Jonathan, wow you shaped my youth, unwittingly. Thanks for all the great music. Was the Loop di Love tune based on a traditional Greek tune?

  • It's three session singers (and JK in falsetto in the choruses).

  • Are you JK ? If so I'd like to say how much you've been missed. Great track & I love 'Loop Di Love' which was No.1 in Greece for about 100 years wasn't it ?

  • Ah yes, I remember dancing around the Christmas tree to this one back in 71. I allways thought that it was Adrienne Posta that sung this little ditty, but now I know the truth.I had this on a compilation album, the best of bell records, it was called something like "Blues Soul and Rock n roll". If anybody knows the proper title please let me know, I would like to try to get it on C.D. Thanks.

  • Awesome! Still got this on 7" Vinyl with the backing track on the B side.

  • here comes jonny reggae...

  • Thankyou for posting Jonathan - Great memories from 1971

  • This was one of my favourite songs as a child, alongside the push-bike song by the mixtures (I think).

Didnt Wendy Richard do "Come out side", with Mike Sarne. As this reminds of that song too. I remember the (What For ?) in that song, sounding like this singer's voice.

This song also reminds me of the end part of Typically Tropical's "Barbados".

Ohh the olden days was grand !

  • So you Jk fans where is Shag loop di loop di love?

  • JK had a brilliant understanding of pop music.

  • They're birds shoes

  • Fucking 'ell!

  • This guy Jonathan King is a legend!

I think he would make a great judge on X Factor or Pop Idol. Hope he gets his wrongful conviction overturned.

  • Awesome tune!!...;)

  • awesome!!!...;)

  • PS - I actually went out with Adrienne Posta a couple of times in the 60's!

  • Neither actually Perran - it was a session singer called Barbara Kay and two others (plus JK in falsetto in the choruses). I agree, she does sound like Wendy (Will I Wot?).

  • Adrienne Posta, apparently. I used to think it was Wendy Richard.

  • Best song ever ;) Haven't heard that one in quite a while...

  • :D
