Dude i Got my ps3 April 20 2006. i got my first yellow light of death on april 30 2009. and even i got ylod i try to turn it on after 2 hours and its still work. and now i just got Ylod on the same PS3 this january 29 and i just fix it by my own i reapplied a thermal compound on it and use a blow dryer to heat it up. and its perfectly working. i would like to show u a video how i did it but i didnt took a video..

yes there is somthing to do to avoid the ylod to help ur ps3 out u should put a fan in front of the ps3 NOT in the back and anopther ub should only play ur ps3 for about an hour and shut it off give it a break....and actually i fix ps3,i fix the fat ones and i do fix the slims as well sooo yea...

there is a way to get out the disk without pulling the ps3 apart. 1) turn off ur ps3 from the switch on the back 2) hold the eject button 3) while holding down the eject button turn on the ps3 from the back (if this doesnt work try it again coz it doesnt always work the first time) 4) ur disk should just slide out like normal but ur ps3 will b making a very loud noise. CAUTION turn of the ps3 straight after u have taken out the disk coz the loud noise can make ur ps3 even worse. hope this helped

There is an easy way of getting the disc out... turn off the main power at the back and hold the eject button and then switch on main power at the backk it should release the disc :)

@snkyaznchopstx There is nothing you can do. I've gotten it twice; once the system was standing, another time it was sitting. The first time it was after the system had been left on overnight (I was hosting a room in GRAW 2 and didn't want to close it), and the second time was when it had only been on for 10 minutes. The first time was in February in the morning, the second time was in November in the evening. I've concluded there is nothing you can do to prevent it.

You can sort of prevent it, keep it out in the open, not in a enclosed entertainment system, not on a floor with a rug, and If you can keep the temperature of the room your plaing in under 70 degrees. Just try to put it on a small end table infront of your T.V. Thats what mines on and i've had it since launch, its a 80GB aswell, with the 4 USB ports. :) hope it helps.

i just got the yellow light crap bout 4 hours ago and ben researching a lot of info. and so far i seen that you had urs standing up. i had mine two years and this last six months put mine standing up. i know now its one or both processing units. i wonder if that has ne thing to do with it. cuz my fan ran on high when it got hot. maybe this sounds dumb but i think keeping it horizontal mite help prolong the life. i'm still going to attempt the quick fix in the morning. if it dont work slim it is.

You know, that is probably the nicest comment I have gotten from any of my videos. Anyway, yeah you can definitely count on them returning the game to you -- no problems there. I wasn't really pissed as much as I was amazed at the IRONY of it all. What did make it pretty bad was that the REPLACEMENT console I got back broke after only 4 hours (not the YLoD, however).
