@TheDarkWolfKnight Utena is widely considered to be a masterpiece of the shojo genre and so I highly recommend it, but some people do have their misgivings about certain aspects of the story. If there's something you're concerned about, you could always look more into it.

@toomanyusernames It's because the set has 6 discs unlike the first two which has 3 in each. I own the set and here's what it has.

Discs 1-4: Episodes 25-39 w/Chiho Saito (mangaka) & Kunihiko Ikuhara (director) commentary extra on disc 4.

Disc 5: Adolescence of Utena movie w/Kunihiko Ikuhara (director) commentary extra.

Disc 6: Japanese & English extras for the series & movie.

Plus it comes with a booklet which is a bit bigger in size than the books in the first two sets.

Am really happy they r remastering it. . . This is very first manga i read and bought bc the creator made Sailor Moon(avid fan) so i was super hyped to have read it. . .than i watch the saga on ONDemand and also the movie(crazy like neon genesis evangelion). I want to buy the collection for . . .really opening my world to Japanese Pop culture and for my camp budddy who got me into reading manga. My friend told me that it's really boring and never watch it.

Yet at the same time someone else told me that if you enjoyed Madoka, you'd enjoy Utena.

I would dive in and watch it myself, but I can't find it anywhere.

@NinjaJedi I tried watching Madoka but really couldn't get into it. Utena has recurring bits in the animation (before a fight sequence for instance) but it's incredibly symbolic, there's so many nasty things happening behind the scenes and so many awesome things too. Worth a watch all the way through - especially for the last few episodes where everything turns upside-down in seconds. Not to everyone's taste though, it's aged a little! It's my favourite anime of all time though.

@Ainzho What this is happens to be one of the greatest anime series of all-time. If you can't comprehend what you're seeing now, don't worry. The initial shock should wear off eventually.

While I can assure you that Utena is NOT an ecchi anime, I cannot completely say the same about your other claims (this IS a shoujo anime, after all).

Even so, you should really give this show a chance. There are 39 episodes in all (and a movie). All I ask is that you at least watch the first two episodes, and if you can make it past that, the next 11 episodes.

Just watch the first 13 episodes. If nothing else, you'll love the music and the fight scenes.

Please give it a chance. ;__;

As soon as I heard Nozomi was doing the remaster I pre-ordered straight away. Revolutionary Girl Utena is quite deceptive in that it doesn't seem that profound at first; in fact it just seems like your standard 'Magical Girl' show with a slight homoerotic twist. But it soon became the most intelligent and thoughtful anime I have ever seen. It's psychological mind-bender for sure, and a fantastic deconstruction of anime tropes and fairy tale archetypes. Thank you for bringing this to us, Nozomi.

Interpretations about *anything* in RGU are going to differ from person to person, given the surreal nature of the series. I can see where both views come from, even if I admit that I can't see the subtext as anything but deliberate. (Gotta wonder what you think of the movie though;;)

I'm so glad this series is finally getting a re-release. It really deserves it, especially since the older dvds have been out of print and hard to find for a very long time. it's a really cool anime to show to newer fans, too- aside from Princess Tutu and the more recent Stardriver (to an extent) there really isn't anything like it.

I am fan of lots of 60s rock groups,and have found that when they are digitally remastered from LP to CD,the audio quality seems lower,sometimes even drowning out the voice. 1. Yes, it will have the old Central Park Media dub from the 90's with Rachael Lillis as Utena herself (she played Misty & Jessie in Pokemon back in the 4Kids days).
