I prefer the Gilmour accent, however this sounds nice and different with the Clapton's signature. Indeed Waters love female backing vocals. It is always there!
@JustATadpole vindo de Clapton jamais serão notas demais...o que fudeu a musica foi o vocal veio.....essa musica é de DAVID GILMOUR ou seja do Pink Floyd...
@HellsAngelsofNC i didn't sad that waters can't play music,i have the screaming face of empty spaces on my arm and i seen ALL Pink Floyd's exibitions!
he is one of the most important composer of history of music and i love him but, technically, nothing compared to Clapton's skills, and this is not my opinion: it's a fact!
say that Clapton whishes to strum guitar like Waters is pure ignorance.
There being 3 female backing vocals throw off the integrity of the lyrics, being the earnestness of two individuals being reduced to recollections due to distance... Shame
It's different than Gilmour's original version, but it's nice too! Although I'm a big Claptopn fan (even have his guitar) I think he doesn't really add much quality to the song. It's just not his style
I can't understand, Eric and David are both one of the best guitarplayers that ever live. I'd like to hear Eric, he play so good this song, i loved it. I like a lot to hear David too, he is the maker of the song, and he plays it awesome. Look, I loved hear them both.
@pent0thal87 Oh, my bad my bad, i didn't know you knew Waters personally, heard every practice hes done and every live performance, studied his music, and added your statistics up to find out that he's the worst guitarist ever...
@HellsAngelsofNC well he is far from the worst guitarist ever but Eric Clapton is far better than Roger. But that's also because guitar isn't roger waters main instrument i think
@Dvermoet Exactly. Waters main instrument is the bass and it's not like he's considered one of the best bassists of all time either. Waters is, however, one of the greatest composers of music the world has ever seen.
THis is a song where Roger an David colaborated 50-50. they have said it many times, a rare thing for them to sit and write at the same time. i say that make it so fucking special. Best band ever!!!
Roger has his place, but it isn't performing Wish You Were Here. Love Clapton, and he gives a great performance here. But I have to agree, David Gilmour, Wish You Were Here.
this is not a roger song, and it's not a blues song. I love Clapton, and I love Pink Floyd, but this did not work for me. What are those background singers doing there? we just want Dave
damn this is what good music is all about, why aren't there more artists like this out there who are young enough to pick up the torch and carry it on and keep GOOD music alive, rather than the punk boys and ungodly awful female singers who are turning out fluffy dog crap and call it music!!!
there is no floyd without SYD (first) AND waters AND gilmour AND mason AND wright which is why i thought the whole argument was soooo stupid for so long...egos robbed everyone of some great music
Roger Waters IS Pink Floyd you dumb asses don't comment if you have nothing intelligent to say...do any of you think Gilmour was the driving force behind that band? if so you are idiots
@mip93 The truth is that Roger wrote the majority of it and without him there would have been no band in the first place...and gilmour's singing is shit, that's why he's a guitarist
i admit gilmore would be able to sing this better, but back in the 70s waters would have been able to aswell, and anyway his voice is more suited to songs like In the Flesh ect...
Roger Waters is a different kind of singer than Gilmour, I like both of their voices and if you are a true Pink Floyd fan then you would second this motion.
@flowerdrop1 don't ham it up! waters have a great voice too! Just different, we're all used to listen this song with gilmour's voice but waters' tone is one of the most particular in the rock history! indeed when he was young he sang a lot of beautiful tunes! Listen dark side!
i think that both clapton and gilmour are exceptional guitarists. I cant really put one above the ohter. And the idea that one his better songs than the other is neither hear nor there. It is simply the fact that the song being played on my computer right now is absolutely amazing.
I don't see why are there so many negative comments about this. Of course that Clapton is no where as good as Gilmour, matter of fact i don't really like him at all. For me, he's just an amazing guitar player with few fucking good songs, and that's it. And David, he's something else, he has heart and soul with all of that clapton has. But talking negative about this. Look guys, Roger wrote the song, and he can perform in any way he wants to, if it had been me instead of eric, would kick ass.
@davidturner9823 "he's just an amazing guitar player with few fucking good songs". Where did I say something different to that? As Jack Bruce said it when Jimi Hendrix had an request to jam with Cream: "Eric was a master guitar player, Jimi was force of nature". And it really says it all. Same goes for Gilmour, he has heart and soul. And if I can choose one stuff where you can hear that, listen to comfortably numb pulse solo. Really says it all.
I think it's pretty fascinating to see how much Roger has tried to make it 'his own', as such. They've changed the original backing guitar, the structure of the solos and even the melody. I love Roger but it disappoints me that he seems to care more about owning the song than playing it as it was intended, which was already perfect.
I think that Roger has trouble with the high notes. Also, a song is a living thing, and after playing it thousands of times, it isn't a bad thing to keep it fresh. Clapton accompanied Roger on his first solo tour, if memory serves, and they played this song differently even way back then.
By reading all these posts i can tell all of you are split about the whole Gilmore-Waters thing. well guess what you dubm asses they were pink floyd together! they both wrote and played the songs together as a band! you cant like one and not the other and obviously non of you are true floyd fans and can all fuck off for talking shit on either one of them!

It wasn't like we were all there leaning on him to look after us." Thats why we dislike Waters, talented YES, asshole YES
As far as I can see, there are people who still go way ahead and try to show others who the boss or the winner may be between Roger Waters and David Gilmour, it seems they care and need to show this, that is a pity, this song does not talk about it and if we remember this song sung by Gilmour, perhaps that was just an accident of the album producer, who cares really? I make no mention to Clapton or Waters because there is no need to show further admiration or thankfulness.
Great version honestly, and I love Waters and I LOVE Clapton, like if I was gay and if Clapton would accept, I would blow him for he is a God. But Gilmour should be singing and playing this song. Just my opinion <3
Bunch of jerks saying that Gilmour is greater than Waters. This song, specially, is better in Gilmour's voice, but they're equaly great musicians. Most of the Pink Floyd's lyrics were wrote by Roger Waters, the great brain in the band with Syd Barrett.

the backup singers sound great. They shoulda sang the whole time. And Eric coulda laid off the solo's for the first few bars... but its still a good effort and worth the listen
justin bieber..... i said i mention it as it seems to be on every comments section of every song i listen to.I wish he was here I'd give him some bovril
I wonder why people always tend to start fighting who´s better and in what...Gilmour and Waters are both on their own level...in their own ways.
About this song, yes Gilmour sings it technically better and that version is pure awesomeness, but think about this exact event and the sad atmosphere where they are playing this one. The more melancholy and down singing type of Waters fitted just perfectly. Awesome performance!
Anyone who doubts who the brains and the balls behind Pink Floyd was only has to listen to the Amused to Death album in its entirety. 10 times better than Momentary Lapse of Reason...
rogers and gilmour are caught in something that i call 'harmonic indifference.' i have been in radio for many years and love them both. i have seen the waters solo make a very unrecognized plight. RW is a great singer as is DG. both completely different in what they do. either can pull off PF songs because they are both so instrumental in who PF is. Just enjoy the differences. both are awesome.
I would have liked to have seen Clapton sing this song, Roger didnt seem too into it...

the backup singers sound great. They shoulda sang the whole time. And Eric coulda laid off the solo's for the first few bars... but its still a good effort and worth the listen

Caller: "wait. Clapton? Gilmour isn't there?
Damon: "well...no sir, but Clapton is tearing it up."

rogers and gilmour are caught in something that i call 'harmonic indifference.' i have been in radio for many years and love them both. i have seen the waters solo make a very unrecognized plight. RW is a great singer as is DG. both completely different in what they do. either can pull off PF songs because they are both so instrumental in who PF is. Just enjoy the differences. both are awesome.

If only when Roeger Waters says "I wish that you were here", he's thinking of David Gilmour.
