i remember going to the games and he was the best thing to watch. as soon as he touched the puck, the whole arena would stand on their feet in anticipation of something great and many times he delivered. the electricity in the arena and pure excitement was over the top every night he played. really miss those days! i wish every Canuck fan today got to experience this. we have a great team now, but days of Pavel are unmatched.
Pavel's electrifying speed and ability was a wonder to watch and could inspire everyone around him. Adrenaline rushes all around the world delivered through a television.
The greatest of all time tho? I have to disagree. If you recall, there is a fella called "the great one" we can't forget so soon, and I have to call out Mario Lemieux on this one. MANY others are very good as well, and Pavel is definitely near the top... but not quite the best IMO. best canuck - yes, but all time - Mario
In the modern era, only Mike Bossy & Mario Lemieux have a high goals-per-game average than Bure. And probably only Maurice Richard exceeds him in desire to score.
@generalbullmoose They are very different players. Bure was a guy who avoided contact at all cost, while Ovechkin uses his size to seek it out (or he used to anyway, he seems like a scared puppy nowadays) Bure was without a doubt one of the most skilled players of all time. Ovechkin has that skill as well, however he seem sto not want to shoot the puck anymore, or drive to t he net. Boudreau really screwed him up last year. (Not that he had a choice).
@stormcrow7878 Nono. OV has no skill compared to Bure. OV also has no speed compared to Bure. OV had 3 good years when he had the will and the muscle. Today when he speeds up he mishandles the puck 9 out of 10 times. So even though he has no speed compared to Bure, it's still to fast for his skilles to cope with it and he loses the puck CONSTANTLY.
as a Canuck fan I was embarrassed how he was treated at the end. after all he did for us . when that story came out the coach backed him. but they could have protested that story a bit more. one of the best Canucks ever
@zdarelight1 You may want to clarify why he'd ever want to be Pavel Bure. Selanne has played for much longer. Has a Stanley Cup Ring. Has scored 637G / 703A to Bure's 437G / 342A...No doubt Bure was phenomenal, but he was a flash in the pan when compared to the longevity and consistently great play of Selanne.
Finland - Russia at Nagano 1998. I'm still having nightmares.
