also, it is funny but i think bill murray got better as hunter thompson as the movie progressed. in the beginning of the movie he seemed rather wooden.

I like this movie and bill murray as thompson. however, when i compare murray with depp, I cannot get around the sense that it is bill murray trying to be thompson; as when i watch depp, I don't think of of him as acting; i think i am really watching hunter acting in the movie.

i disagree. i think he did a great job (and so did Hunter), and Johnny Depp was awesome i Fear and Loathing. i see it more as Bill Murray was playing Hunter S. Thompson and Johnny Depp was playing Raoul Duke. They both bring different things to the different roles.

No way man! Have you seen the whole film? and have you seen enough footage of Hunter S Thompson to be educated in your opinion. If not, then try and watch more footage of Thompson and then watch the whole film. Murray gives a great performance that is in no way lesser than Depp's in Fear and Loathing.

You don't read enough of his books then. Murry was Thompson, Depp was was Duke. Thompson isn't nearly as crazy as the chracter he portrayed himself to be in Las Vegas. (though don't get me wrong, he was fuckin nuts, we love him, but come on...he was nuts)In fact one of the reasons he killed himself was every time a reporter or anyone would talk to him they expected him to be like "Duke" not Thompson.

Las Vegas is great, But I think it helped kill one of the funniest and prolific writers ever.

I though Hunter killed himself cuz he was going to be confined to a wheelchair, I know he had part of his spine replaced and i think that was probably the real reason, i think his pride was hurt and he didn't want people seeing him like that.
