  • how much is it to pan gold at this location?

  • Gold mining is a part of our history as Americans. It should and most likely will continue, well into the generations of our grandchildren and beyond. Gold is as sacred to our people as it was to the peoples before us. With our economy of paper money failing, soon many more will be prospecting our earlier spots for even more gold with even more sophisticated equipment.

  • stop complaining , the old man is not causing any harm, besides he is having fun.

  • Your Keene sand and water scoop looks pretty handy.

  • This video is very good and well defined for Geography students like me!!!

  • (626)335-1251 -- That's the phone number for the Forest Service office in Glendora. Ask them about illegal mining along East Fork and the San Gabriel River. I expect you won't bother to call given your response to Mark's comments. (smile)

  • @GlendoraLife You might want to send him to Arcadia rather than Glendora though both offices will answer questions about illegal mining.

  • That is correct, mining in the Angeles National Forest was banned back in 1963, in part due to the overwhelming filth left by miners but also because the watershed was being destroyed. Mining is illegal but the Sheriff's offices in San Dimas lack the people needed to walk in and arrest the illegal miners, and the Federal government via the Forest Service don't have the money to pay LEOs to go in these and clean these scumbags out of there which they have to constantly do.

  • @NotSoOldHippy I know, you sent me the email from their Washington Office. :) The thing is, you can tell these clowns that mining is illegal and they don't care, they'll start their right wing screaming. They don't give a fuck about the wilderness, they're there just to destroy our canyons and waterways.

  • @MakesMeAngry Mark if you still have a copy you should send it to KS though he won't believe it. As I recall there was a telehone number as well. KS wouldn't call it since he knows it's illegal and would just assert "my rights!" to destroy the canyon.

  • @AnimalLiberationFron No no, it's pointless, the guy won't accept the fact that mining is ilegal, he won't call the Forest Service. Here, I'll send him a phone number, a buck says he won't call it. Two bucks says he won't believe it if he does call.

  • @NotSoOldHippy You might have seen KS post a comment to Mark demanding it was okay to destroy the canyon since rain and river "destroy" it every year anyway. Amazing. These illegals are utterly clueless.

  • It is illegal to mine in the Angeles National Forest. Here you are committing a felony and posting it to YouTube. Good grief.

  • @MakesMeAngry Most people don't know that it's illegal, they see "everybody else" doing it and assume that it's legal, none of them bother to check with the Forest Service, probably because they know they'll be told it's illegal.

  • @GlendoraLife Bullshit, they all know it's illegal, they pulled down the signs that were posted along East Fork, Cattle Canyon, and at Heaton Flats. They know it's llegal. Many of these shit piles squat in the forest along Cattle Canyon. They're violent right wing NRA buffoons, most of them.

  • @MakesMeAngry Mark, only some of the illegal miners pulled down the signs, some people accept the fact and never returned, and many people never saw the signs when they were up. The Forest Service people only inform people that mining is illegal if they are asked, they no longer hand out fliers since they want to discourage people from even knowing that there is minute amounts of gold in the canyons.

  • @GlendoraLife I'm not so sure that that is true, there were signs posted informing people that mining is illegal in the ANF, they tore the signs down.

  • @MakesMeAngry The signs that were posted along east Fork informing people that mining is illegal were removed within the first week by the shitting illegal miners, many of whom live along the river and dump their human shit in to the river.

  • @MakesMeAngry Mining in the ANF has been illegal since 1963 but the FS lacks the law enforcement people needed to clean these shitters out of there.

  • @AnimalLiberationFront There was approved mining in 2 locations in the Angeles after the 1963 law was passed banning mining, but after the 2 approved mines were closed, the rule took effect in the entire forest.

  • @VolunteerMinisters I call bullshit, I read the 1963 law that closed ALL of the Angeles National Forest to mining, it was banned everywhere. There MAYBE was rock quary mining at Fish Canyon but that was removed from the ANF boundary through corporate bribes of Azusa and Duarte politicians.

  • @MakesMeAngry Mark he's right, just above Heaton Flats there is an audt that was still in operation past the 1963 banning, it was "excluded from the exclusion," as defined by the Washington office. I don't know what the second one was but at least Heaton continued after the ban.

  • @MakesMeAngry I know, when we hike along East Fork we see these filthy people crapping up our river, they think they have a "god given right" as "tax payers" to SHIT on our forest as if they're the only ones who own it and can shit it up if they want.

We really need to get the Feds in there to put these shit piles in prison for their second offense since most of these filthy morons don't know that it's illegal.

  • @NarCONonFraud I would love to see the Forest Service search for videos of these people and get subpoenas issued to identify them and then kick in their doors. If the water in the San Gabriel River is ever to improve we need to start putting these people in prison.

  • @NarCONonFraud Many of them that were cleaned out during the Morris Fire have not returned, they were arrested for a number of firearms and drug related offenses, and their property was impounded and they never returned for it.

The people living in the canyons illegally are the worse offenders. Most of the people who are mining don't cause all that much damage, only the sluice boxers, dredgers, and people with shovels. Family day panners don't cause any damage.

  • @NotSoOldHippy Fred I'm surprised that you commented on this video, normally you refrain from commenting since you're involved in getting the watersheds cleaned up and elimniating these illegal miners, squattters, and working on removing the spray paint and used baby diapers and everything else. Why did you comment on this one and none of the others, I thought you were opposed to commenting? Oh, unless it was people it was on the Facbook wall?

  • @GlendoraLife Yes, all true, I avoid commenting on mining videos in the ANF but yes, I was asked to go look at this one and could. not. stop. myself. ROFL!

What gets me to smile is the sheer act of cluelessness in posting videos of one's felonies on YouTube for all to see. I mean we see people driving drunk or at high speed on Highway 39 and East Fork posting videos to YouTube and then getting arrested when cops view them, but these illegal miners probably feel safe in posting their crimes.

  • @MakesMeAngry I've tried looking all over Google and I can't find any place it says prospecting with a pan and sluice is a crime in the Angeles National Forest. Can you help me find the laws?

  • Hey Kurt, the next time you're up on that creekbed, check the rock (the humped one)

directly above the bigger rock you pointed out. If you had checked just under the

smaller rock's lower side, you would probably have had better luck right away. The

"secondary" rocks yield a surprisingly large amount of "molecules".

  • in 2:06 the water bucket thingy looks like a milk carton cut in half?

  • lol

  • any recomendations on where to look for gold in this areas? like canyon names?? i went to tajunga and had no luck. id love to know if theres anywhere close to there or even a lil farther where you know is color?? thanks friend, enjoy your vid alot. love to see more with you panning :D

  • only one making money is keene engineering

  • Who would pay 5 bucks for a plastic bottle cut in half??

  • looks like your molecule of gold had babies by the end of the video

  • I like the video but it was kinda very depressing

  • First just black sand...dig a bit deeper a speck of gold....dig a bit deeper more gold that's how it goes. if it was easy to find the big lumps it'd be worthless and you wouldn't want it. Always makes me laugh when I see the sarcastic comments people put.....like how much have they found?

  • Good job, I wish I knew where to go and be lucky and I live in Calif.

  • Looks like your later pans were quite a bit more productive than "1 molecule" of gold. ;) Too bad that footage isn't in this video... Great fun anyway!

How did you fare on the other part of your goal (no poison oak) ?

  • WAIT WERE CAN I GET THAT AWESOME SAND AND WATER SCOPPER?

  • Is the black sand magnetite actually magnetic? Could you remove it with a magnet?

  • lol the crick

  • how do you have the sense where gold might be?

can you dig any old place or is there a science to know where gold may be?

  • so how much is it worth

  • @jose01ification 50 cents maybe lol

  • great video im headin out today here in pennsylvania to try my sluice box for the first time and i see we have the same one. hopeing i can find me some color but it will most likely be petrified cow shit. wish me luck

  • right you are, kurt! being happy with a little bit, that's the trick with gold mining

  • Would a metal detector be easier than a pan to test to see if it is good to sluice or does it need to be panned first to look for color? Thanks

  • Gold is 19+ times heavier than water - not 16 times. gold is 4 times heavier then black sand

  • is a molecule an actual weight of soemthing?....how many "molecules" does it take to equal a gram? not sure if it's a joke or a serious weight i don't know about yet.eager to know n learn if so.

  • dude i love this guy, he s o nice he leaves gold nugget for me to prospect with my metal dtector! society should have more people like this!

  • its a friken milk jug cut in half jk

  • That dude has some awesome vision. He can see individual molecules.

  • Check this out----What is thought to be the largest existing California gold nugget made a brief appearance Tuesday in Sacramento, to the oohs and aahs of fourth-graders and octogenarians alike. The Washington Nugget was found last year in Nevada County by a property owner with a metal detector and a pick."It popped out. He flipped it over and there were the nuggets," said Fred Holabird

  • Part 1 ----Great video buddy. This one was well put together... I just subscribed, check out my channel....Did you hear about the 10-Pound NUGGET found in Placer County a couple of weeks ago! Ya you heard it right a $400.000 dollar nugget ready for auction....

  • @TrafficSeeker A tenpound nugget would be worth a lot more than $400

  • @Canarah I was just stating what I had read. Four-Hundred-Thousand-Dollars.... That's a lot more than four hundred dollars....

  • I love your video bro! If I may ask you have you found anything in mount baldy of azusa canyon?

  • There be the gold booty....Better then some then none.....

Whats great about gold is it ads up....

Great video man, love the little sketch!

  • Gold panning -- indeed all mining -- is illegal in the Angeles National Forest. The ban is going to be enforced coming up shortly.

  • @NotSoOldHippy ....running out of trees to hug, Abbie?

  • niceeee lol

  • I need to order one of those fancy scoops

  • Great video! Quick question, what's the best way you found to strap your sluice box and bucket to your bag? I'm always lugging mine around by hand.

  • When you have no one to talk to (such as AngryOldMan) you become lonely and empty inside. To fill that void an angry person will resort to lashing out. The internet was the best thing for people like him. Now you see less and less angry people standing on the side of the road yelling at what seems to be no one. I'm sure you've all been witness to such instances. And, just as before, it becomes entertainment for reasonable civilians, who live just fine with embankment pits along the rivers.

  • Stop talking and look for gold old man

  • Cool video! Great sense of humor too.

  • 1 molecule Au = 197 amu

    1 mole Au = 197 grams

  • Comment removed

  • nice video

  • These illegal miners along East Fork of the San Gabriel River shit on us, shitting on our land with their horiffic destruction of the river's embankments. They think that using dredges and sluice boxes are legal because they see other people using them to shit-up our river.

One can walk along the river and see the endless series of pits dug by these scumbags, some of whom live homeless and illegally along the river.

More cops are needed to patrol and arrest out there.

  • @AngryNotSoOldHippy Didn't I talk to you a year ago? And you deleted your foul mouthed comments? And now you're back. Please sir, learn the law (especially the Federal Mining Act of 1872) and try to curb your nasty unfounded opinions. Every year the spring floods come down and changes the river course - building new banks and cutting new channels. Pictures from year to year prove that. So please stick to your 'shrooms and leave others to their legal recreation.

  • @KurtSahib Um, KS, you should *listen* to what peolpe are telling you. Your video was posted to Facebook and everyone is disgusted at you and your fellow illegal miners. You people have done enough damage to our river, so much so that the National Parks Service is looking at taking over specifically so they can get their armed Rangers in there to clean you illegals out.

Don't blame the messengers. Since you're not on Facebook you can expect more people to condemn your abuse of our lands.

  • @NotSoOldHippy Fred, he won't listen, look at what he did, he seized on Mark's obscene words to try to justify not listening to the truth about mining in the Angeles. You can't get people to accept the laws they don't want to obey.

You should offer to send him the email you posted from Washington but he would *still* refuse to accept the fact. This type always refuse to accept reality.

  • @NotSoOldHippy I am amazed. The guy is trying to justify illegal miners shitting in our river by demanding it's "natural." Holy cow, these right wing NRA types are insane.

  • @MakesMeAngry LOL! Mark, MUST you assume that every criminal is a Republican? LOL. How many friend did you lose on Facebook because you called them "Republican?" I have to laugh.

  • @GlendoraLife ROFL! Hey now, Mark isn't that bad, come on. Sure he posts photographs of his ass crack to Facebook but come one! Everybody does it!

  • @MakesMeAngry :) I saw that. I should send you a private email about the California Lottery commercial that is being video taped tomorrow or the next day along East Fork. The commercial producer contacted us. He watched illegals smashing 48 bottles of beer one after another against the rocks in the river while smoking dope, tyhen they left baby diapers and all their trash behind.

But not to worry! The rains and river will wash it all magically away next year no problem. --snort!-- Good grief.

  • @AngryNotSoOldHippy

Is recreational panning once a month or even once every other month legal?

I only ask because I use to go up to the River with my father and camp for a few days (5 days usually) in the summer; but that was it. 5 days in one year. I ask because I want to continue that "adventure" again and camp by the River and maybe do some panning. I don't know the laws nor the claim sites; this is why I ask.

  • @AngryNotSoOldHippy

I just checked out there. I don't see any dredging whatsoever. Panning &Sluiting is legal . That's too expensive to enforce to be honest with our budgets So, we let that go . It's so peace out there but waay too many tourlists & terrible services at one dinner where the motorcycle guys hangs out. the old guy who works there is Just a Dick. someday he'll get head shots if he keeping that attitudes to the people... We do believe he is polluting Our San Gabriel Mountains.

  • You idiot. You just posted a video of yourself committing a felony on Federal land.

  • That's so cool!

  • woot! I can't wait. Thanks for the info vid, nice job :)

I am in northern california so I plan to hit Yuba and other areas. Ever need a pan partner I could sure use some help lol.

  • great video! finally someone who does a nice filming job without too much shaking and where you can actually see things. and nice find! i'm just starting out with gold panning, not sure if i've found some already. so tiny that i can't be sure :) but its fun and i'm loving it.

may there always be gold in your pan, mate!

  • You are funny Dude. Enjoyed the video.

  • Thanks for watching bro's. -- Angeles Forest, a spit north of San Fernando Valley. Extreme west end of San Gabriel mountains. Thing is, by sampling I've discovered that LOTS of the little canyons from Placerita to Tujunga have color in them. Not commercial quantities, but that's not what we're panning for, right? One shake of the peppershaker worth of gold by the end of the day and I go home happy!
