  • Roll, roll, roll, roll.. 18:99 so close.. roll, roll.. 18:00!

  • First played this game at the age of 11, although I was somewhat of a tactical genius, I didn't understand any of the mechanics behind the game like 2d6 and THAC0. Now that I'm 20, my strategy has improved even more (instead of charging a spider head on, I have my melee dudes kite it while Imeon and my Barb Protag snipe it with bows) and after playing D&D 3.5, I understand most of the mechanics now. This game is absolutely beautiful and deep, and yet, brutal at the same time.

  • @StealthyPenguin Baldur's Gate for me was how I learned D&D in the first place lol. I think it was games like these that got me hooked instead of the RL pencil-and-paper, not that I would discount a D&D session altogether.

  • Throne of Bhaal also had some great music. The theme that plays when you fight Yaga-Shura is just incredible.

  • This and Baldur's Gate 2 were both awesome and had amazing music. =)

  • Okay, I'm gonna let you finish... but Fallout is the greatest RPG ever made.

  • 00:24-37 !

  • Could you please add BG2+Throne of Baal music to your list?

BG1 music is great but the music in the second one is even better. (The Throne of Baal theme gives me the chills...)

  • bg 2 and 3s music is 500 times better

  • I feel like, by now... something should have come along that can capture the feeling I had playing Baldur's Gate... I trust Bioware, though, and things are getting closer all the time.

  • These musics are so awesome they could easily fit any epic movie !

    Damn I miss Baldur's Gate =(

  • This game is a god immortal. Unbeatable, untouchable and omnipotent. It is a pinnacle of the gaming industry. Every the inspirer of developers, but never they can or will be able to achieve the same experience for gamers as BG saga did. Sad really.

This game, with its seguel, truly is the best game ever made and I highli doublt there ever will be better.

    I salute you!

  • When i hear this music, i want to play BG ahain so badly. Which i could, but i just have no time anymore.

But still BG1 and BG2 are the best RPGs ive ever played and the music is just awesome.

  • Boo says "whaaaaat!?"

  • So many hours spent. I need to get this again.

  • The theme that begins at 3:30 is a ripoff of the main theme of te British movie Lifeforce.

  • I can't seem to identify the music that starts at 7:45. Is it on the Original Soundtrack, or would I have to open the game files to unpack it?

  • Bioware reborn the RPG Genre on Pc with BG.I am Remember when i buying it and play it.Amazing game.

  • Is there an actual soundtrack one can buy?

    ENG:

After so many years playing over and over I still like and never get tired. They should make another Baldur's Gate as they have done with the Devil. Both games have always been hopefully develop a new Baldurs, misses him: '(

  • I loved EVERY little bit of this game, and so i did love its soundtrack. The only flaw I can get from it, is the nerve of using the very soundtrasck of a movie for the battle theme (3:30). That theme is just like "Lifeforce" A.K.A Space vampires A nice sci-fi/horror movie from the golden eighties. You can search at youtube. Henrry Mancini "life force ending theme". Great game anyway!

  • I didnt know it before but it sounds like htey sampled terminator, at least in the beginning lol. I loved this game hard. That was before DSL was in houses everywhere, so I had my brother, and a few friends at our pad, 4 computers, all loven on baldurs gate. I remember one of my buddies was slow as shit and liked to take his time only when buying shit at the tavern. Well, in Baldurs gate 1, we all had to wait cause u couldn't roam away from the group, haha.

  • I have to admit that I have no idea what's going on in this video. While I have the game (one of the greatest! Just the second is better), nothing like this happened when I played through it.

  • It's clearly a low level character speed walking to the Main city rather than adventuring there

  • 1998, damn. I bought this game on release. I'm 22....half my life ago....and I'm replaying it again now. This game holds a special place in my heart, it's just the greatest.

  • Yeah, I'm 21 replaying the whole saga now :D

You don't really need other games!

  • BUTT KICKING FOR JUSTICE!!

    "Squeek!"

  • ho there wanderer! stay thy course a moment to indulge an old man...

  • I SERVE THE FLAMING FIST!

  • Betcha didn't know the "Attacked By Assassins" track (starting at 3:30) was apparently swiped from the theme to the movie "Lifeforce."

  • yeah its uhhhh yeah. still good though.

  • I love theme the theme that starts at 5:06, wandering across the land, with the bird calls and nature..

  • So do I. I love the harp piece that starts at 8:45. This game had such good music.

  • I still love the music from oblivion

  • Baldur's Gate(s) is deeper than FFVII. FFVII is great in its own way but it can't compare with BG (1 or 2) or P:T (or Icewind Dale) for depth of storyline. D&D rules (RIP Gary Gygax) are, despite all the clamour to the contrary, the best basis for an RPG. BG implements them almost perfectly. As regards the music(s) : both games have great and very fitting music. The boss battle music for FFVII is amazing !! The IE games were the best imo, but the FF games will always get more credit ...

  • I agree with you. BG series has many dialog choices and you can choose your own way instead just going along what is fed to you.

  • @zarakhast This is the debate I always have with myself. My two favorite games ever are Baldur's Gate and FFVII. FFVII holds a special place in my heart so I have to give it the nod, but I probably spent the most time/had the most fun playing BG. No combat system will ever match the IE for me. Just amazing. Very lucky to have been around at a time when both these games were out

  • @rockle18 Good taste in RPGs ! Never having played a Final Fantasy game before, I found the start of FFVII hard going (too many cut scenes for one thing), but from the point where the world map first appears it's all uphill from there on in - pretty epic in fact.

Baldur's Gate (the saga) has to take it for me, however. These games take the gamer seriously and were obviously written by writers for whom the task was a labour of love. It's almost like a religious experience at times !

  • Gorion sucks as a wizard :)

  • I'm still mourning him...

    DIE DAMN SAREVOK!

    :)

  • Totally. I'd so kick his ass with mine.

  • i love this game!!! thank u for posting!!!

  • OH DAMN!! I love this game :D remember beating it with my warrior.. this was the best game in my childhood :D

  • Classic

  • oh boy. that game was just so epic. loved every inch in that game. nice vid. thx garudoh

  • Damnit, I love this game too much. Thinking of playing the music at my funeral as well as every month of my life since I got the game.

I'm not even that good at the game, but it's just so perfect that I still have a hard time believing anyone could make such a game sometimes.

  • Only had the second one but it was awesome!

    "I cannot do that here!"

  • I own this game and Baldurs Gate II.

Got both on a PC games magazine as fullversion.

    Pure sweetness, lol.

  • love this game

  • One of the best games ever created <3

  • Speed run of Baldur's Gate is funny to me, but sure! Pretty good soundtrack.

  • This game's soundtrack was only outperformed by it's gameplay.

  • I agree. The music carries more nostalgic weight than overwhelming emotional catharsis. The SNES Final Fantasy games may be crap in gameplay compared to Baldur's Gate. But it sure had some awesome music that drew you into everything.

  • The old SNES FF games were not crappy in the gameplay department. I loved leveling up and planning attacks. I love Baldurs Gate too, but you cant diss the classic FF games. Thats just low.

  • Final fantasy was real good indeed.

    Comparing is futile.

  • You can compare the depth in the two battle systems, but you can't compare the overall experience. People need to look more deeply into what I said before over-reacting.

  • I dont know about over-reacting...but comparing is futile for they are totally different games is what I meant. I dont rememebr jumping to conclusions, or maybe the comment was not adressed to me? Anyways Baldurs gate is a great game. I think everyone agrees on that.

  • I used a bit of hyperbole by saying that FF games have "crap" gameplay compared to Baldur's Gate. Really, BG1&2 are two of my favorite games ever. It was never my point to actually compare to two games, but emphasize that I think that the FF SNES games have MUCH better music than BG, yet have weaker gameplay. I don't see what's so "low" about that opinion.

  • Calm down. I love the SNES FF games, actually. "...may be crap in gameplay [b[compared[/b] to Baldur's Gate.' FF was more spectacle, soap opera than it was a game with huge depth in gameplay. Just have Rosa cast Cure Three every round during boss battles and you'll pretty much never lose (FF4). ;)

  • calm down? i been calm. Thing is, you basically summed up, not just FF, but RPGs in general. Gameplay on RPGs is not necessarily hard, but it is time consuming and the only real problems on RPGs are bosses. You diss a entire genre and that is low.

  • You be calm then. I didn't diss anything. I said that BG has far more depth in the battle system than FF did. What don't you fucking understand?

  • "U" suck at typing. The FF battle system is too easy, if anything. Are we really comparing gaming dick sizes? Get a girlfriend.

  • You're a complete idiot and you post reveals more about yourself than it does about the person you're attacking. I'm through posting here, btw. I originally just wanted to say the following: BG>FF in gameplay. FF>BG in music and emotional experience. Sorry if people are too sensitive when dealing with opinions contrary to your own. I'll workshop my opinions next time and make sure I don't offend anyone. Goodbye and happy gaming.

  • I think Bim's post came off way more negative than he meant. Baldur's Gate is def far deeper than FF. Both are still great games and have great music.

And Elborracho's posts all come off very immature and gangsta-wannabe. Haha. Bim's opinion doesn't sound inexperienced at all.....

Anyway. Maybe not as "workshopped" opinion next time. But "has worse gameplay than" does sound less hateful than "has crap gameplay than." Sounds more like an attack, even though he does seem to know his FF.
