Really? Fighting over a song? I'm just sitting here and enjoying a version created by a group who recorded the song before Santana. They're ALL great! Peter Green is a great musician. Carlos Santana is a great musician. Someone had to write/discover/record the song first, right? If its particularly great, other people are inspired to create their own version. Unfortunately assholes who probably can't play an instrument worth shit have to improve their image by insulting great musicians. Enough!!
@piratenerd0799 thank you! finally, someone putting things in proper perspective. both are great musicians, lets end it there without turning things into a pissing contest.
@piratenerd0799 the only people that i have seen coming on here and putting down green's version of the song is the santana fanboys (being a fanboy of anything is worse than being a regular fan) who put them & their version on some kind of high pedestal, and yeah, this song is more than cool, its a classic:)
@piratenerd0799 i dont mind SOME rap (keyword: some) like nas, mos def and kendrick lamar but nicki minaj and those young money dipshits??? yikes! they're horrible! whoever gave them a record deal needs to get shot immediately
@piratenerd0799 then again, most record executives of today need to get shot for the crap that gets airplay nowadays. Anyway, its cool to know that u have great taste in music:)

Only the greatest perform at their best on stage, fortunatly for Peter it didnt matter where he played :P.. This version of the song showcases Green's and Danny's amazing "Telepathic" ability.. in the sense that they could always pick up on one another like they shared the same mind and feelings. Stunning to say the least, but just like the old saying " only the good die young' in this case it was peter and dannys mental and spiritual state :(
If by "put the song on the map" you mean they put the song in the U.S. top-40,well,yeah,but that's not my measure of success.I love Fleetwood Mac of the Peter Green era and was never a Santana fan.I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, lol.I think because I heard the Mac's version first,it's still my favorite.I don't wish to dis Carlos-he's a fine guitarist, and if you like their version better than Green's-that's all that matters, really. You like what you like.Me too.Respectfully.Cheers!
@geeksgaloremarmora Man it goes Jody Williams "lucky lue" --> Otis Rush "all your love" --> Peter Green "black magic women ---> Carlos Santana the same
Fleetwood Mac was formed by Mike Fleetwood and John McVie. IN the 60's they changed the 'band' often. Remember they sacked Peter Green... Even Stevie Nicks had Christine Perfect in harmonies....In terms of 'Fleetwood Mac' as a band 'Dreams' was their best album by a long way
@clikityclak Ignorance not 'ignorence' and having known Peter Green I am certainly not ignorant of the comings and goings of Fleetwood Mac....I suggest you learn how to spell the word 'ignorant' before you accuse people of being so! Have a good day....
Myyyyy bad, but still, if you even knew Peter then how could you say "Dreams" was thier best album?! "I Loved Another Woman" with peter playing in singing was better then that whole all damn album..
@RobinAre3 In the 60's they made one change to the lineup, the addition of Danny Kirwan. Peter Green left, he was not sacked. Never heard of an album called "Dreams" only the single. Have you not listened to the album "Then Play On" which pioneered twin lead guitar playing?. In '69 then became mega, out selling the Beatles and Rollimg Stones combined.
@johnhors I saw Fleetwood Mac play live probably 10 - 15 times between 1967-68. There line up often altered because of the state of Peter Green who is a diagnosed schizophrenic. You may believe he 'left' and wasn't sacked but Mike Fleetwood and John McVie, who formed the band entitling it with a combination of their names, were fed up with it. Fleetwood and McVie resurrected the band with ex chicken shack, Christine Perfect, in LA and then they made not 'Dreams', but 'Rumours"!
@RobinAre3 Please stop calling him Mike. I find it highly unlikely you know enough about either of the bands known collectively as "Fleetwood Mac" to teach anyone about them if you don't even know one of the main members names.
there is a reason why this man was the guitar hero and major influence on guys like clapton, beck and page. Its too bad he lost his mind, what a loss, but then again maybe it is better to burn out than fade away.
Taken from Boston Tea Party live (1970) - the most incredible example of blues guitar playing with Peter Green, Danny Kirwan and Jeremy Spencer playing lead at various times, backed up by the solid John McVey and Mick Fleetwood on bass and percussion. Brilliant sound quality with unbelievable 'feel' to the guitar playing - simply one of the best live, blues recordings you'll ever hear. Buy the album, you won't regret it.
can someone please give me more information about this very specific version of the song??... like where was performed and what year... or if you got a link to watch the band playing the song, i'd really appreciate it
i don't mean to be a troll but this is SO much better than the Stevie Nicks era of fleetwood mac, it wasn't even the same band, the NIcks era sucks imo
@zeldaisme: I understand what you mean! First this was a (great) blues bans, after 1975, it became a "rock-pop"-band. I love the 2 styles, honnestly but they're so different, I think the reason the name stayed the same is because of the presence of Mick and Jhon, who were parts of the froup from the beginning! I also think they decided to keep the name so they would have more fans with their 1st album with Lindsay and Stevie. Sorry if there're some mistakes in these sentences,I'm from Belgium.
@Georg5555 :me too! I'm a big fan of fleetwood mac, the first songs I heard from them was "Sarah"when I was 6, I loved it! When I was 18, I forgot they existed untill I heard"skies the limit" on the radio, I bhought the album(without Lindsey), then the "best of" and a few years ago, I was in the library, I took all the fleetwood mac albums they had, I realized they weren't just a great rock band but also a fantastic blues band, I thought Clapton was the only one, I was so wrong! Green's a genius
The version they played on the 2nd night is a much more together version. This version sounds kind of tentative since it's the first song on the first night.
I mean no harm, but there can be no Fleetwood Mac other than the original group. I much prefer the hypnotic, mesmerizing blues to the "pop" that followed. I know times are reflected in music, art, etc.; I just wish the name hadn't carried over into the genre that left behind an era of a totally different culture. As far as I am concerned, they are two totally different groups.
@zeldaisme Two great groups - different and distinctive and excellent. i love that they hung about with the old blues greats still living when the started out. They span music from the 1930s to 1990s -- an amazing arc.
I have heard people say they prefer Santana's version, but then I have also heard people tell me Madonna is to be preferred over Joni Mitchell. This is the master on his master track. Everyone else is a tad below. Just is. BTW, if you haven't heard them, go to the YouTube Stockholm concerts. Peter is at his absolute best.
While listening this, I remembered once again what a lame guitar player Santana is, who made a name for himself just playing standard penta licks over this song...
@SerhatKBD Absolutely right - and all his talk of being in spritiual contact with god. Crap! A trueborn plonker compared to the humility of PG.
For me, PG's little known single 'Out of reach' has some of his most shimmering runs - real ice up the spine stuff .... and (as ever) as much silence as there are notes, with every note counting and not a hint of twiddling, riffing nor showing off. Shove that in Carlos's grimacing face as he rips off yet another minor pentatonic variation.
Stupid comment. Peter does the same thing. Nothing wrong with standard pentatonic licks if you can play em like Greeny did. Santana was a much better song writer but Greeny was by far the better guitarist.
@Carthsgtr Why don't you go listen some justin bieber song around and stop typing your stupid ideas... Santana is just a lucky cover guitarist. He can't play it like P.G. and that's a fact.
Peter Green is the BEST musician of his generation. I'm only 33 and finally got the chance to see him live with my Dad 2 years back... I'n a tiny venue.
I'm an guitarist myself..but even as a troubled old guy Peter Green can knock out licks i can only ever dream of.
some of you kids may notice that he's playing out of an ORANGE head...these suckers have been around forever, it not just a new trend. Hell, muddy waters' whole band had orange rigs for a long time.
I have always been a HUGE fan of the later Nicks/Buckingham era of Fleetwood Mac. Having been been born in '71 they were the only ones I had ever known. Until very recently when I read an actual FULL bio on the group published at Wikipedia, which then led me to the Great Peter Green. He can makes a guitar talk much like BB does Lucille. Thanks for posting a terrific quality song. It made my day!
This is a killer version ... Santana did a good cover but always gotta give credit where credit is due ... Fleetwood mac killed it
