  • wow, i grew up in the 80's and never heard of them---damn I could have used them back them I did a lot of drugs and drank more booze than WC fields. Hmmm I guess thats why I guess I never heard of them or remember anything between 83 and 88.

  • I smoked more pot than bob marley to this album

  • Used to be a program on (what was then called) Rocket 107.5 in Houston in the late hour called "Dave's Closet". I learned alot of my basics there ( ThePixies, SonicYouth, PeterSchilling, etc.) and this was the first song I had ever heard from TheChurch. Was instantly hooked, next day I found the Starfish album in a pawn shop for 2 bucks. Still in my CD book today.

  • this song is so good, it's impossible to explain what it makes me feel

  • I'm inlove with the drummer!!

  • definitivamente una de los mas grandes clasicos de la historia!!!

  • Marty has the guitar used in this video stolen

  • What was that? Brilliant!

  • Ha check out the crowd! Giving it welly! But in control out of control.

  • Love this song and this band!

  • great to see then inducted into the aussie hall of fame

  • They once knew how to make music. Long live the Church.

  • Love the lead guitarist

    .

  • I saw them play last night. They've still got it , and I can now die in peace :)

  • Makes you want to go out and buy a Rickenbacker

  • i saw them tonight they were amazing i saw @noelshao you there aswell

  • @GraveK1ller Only after I get to see the church live will I be able to die peacefully!

  • soooooo true about starting it over!!!!! It just gets better and better. Top down, flying down the highway!!

  • chuuch

  • saw them in Homebake last sat. I am from China and study in Mel.Ashamed cant see them in Mel cuz I'll back home that time. I took one night on train from Mel to Syd and only slept for 2h. But it is fuckin' worth. I saw Steve before the performance of Triffids, I called his name and told him I came from Mel and spend whole night on the train. Cant believe he climed over the fence then took photo with me.It's absolutely a honor for me and we talk for a while, then shake hand and hug. So amazin

  • @noelshao That is so cool that in addition to being an accomplished musician he is also a good guy. I "just liked" this song when it was current but now think it is one of the best songs ever.

  • @CJARCHIVES not just steve. All of members in Church are unbelievable nice.I got all of their's signatures and photos except Tim,cuz Tim is kinda of mystic and I have no chance to meet them. When I asked them to sign for me, they even asked my Chinese name. Steve recognised me in Milton and call me "my friend from homebake". Man, I feel so flattered. I'm so lucky that I saw them 3 times before I back to China, that's my best gig memory!

  • ... Excelente Tema...

  • This is one of those songs that just infects me. I always have to start it over after a minute or so because I feel like I'm not giving it the attention it demands. Love that riff.

  • @CaPoComedy I know exactly what you are talking about. I could not agree more!

  • first time I have heard this since the 80's. unreal. what a gem!! hell yea!

  • Marty rips on that Rich.

  • The Bass is my favorite, and this is one of my favorite basslines of all time!

    GREAT SONG!

  • SUPER!!!

  • yup a very very special band

  • Special band is right! These guys are absolutely amazing, kind of like a hidden jewel. I've seen them 4 times over the years in Philadelphia, every time they were simply amazing. Every Album has special memorable tracks on it. Love this band so much!

  • wel leuk

  • Rickenbacker...it's got the Marr sound a bit lol

  • Love the guitar riff xx

  • this is what i call perfect music!!!

  • Medio tema...

  • This song is what "timeless" really means! The best forever

  • best part about this video is the studio version matched up to the live show..

plus...not one ugly player in that band..my god.

  • This guitar riff is AMAZING!!! You instantly want more.

  • I think these guys knew "Starfish" would be

their first and last successful album

in the way they raised their standards

way up too high to make anything better

in their style of music, so they gave their best

with songs like "Under the Milky Way", "Blood Money",

"North South East and West" and "Reptile"...

the whole album is a precious gem in rock music

and definitely a rare collectors item...

  • ploogy on the drums!

  • Que canción más buena.

  • It's easy to figure out who dislikes this. 39 reptiles that were dumped by the lead singer in the 80's. :) I dare say this song is ... perfect. My dad always use to play this in the house, along with some other great music. I was lucky he didn't like disco.

  • amo este tema <3

  • Like Mr Highlifeoner i think this is one of the most underrated bands. This album "Stafirsh" is a masterpiece. For me, essential in any discography.

  • i think most or the underrated bands

  • Por qué no escuché esto antes?

  • i still got the "tape" at home somewhere...wore it out on this song i reckon,..an now i've discovered it "again" i cant stop friggin playing it..fkn love this..(i will be finding the tabs or learning it by ear..cant wait to unveil this weapon on an unsuspecting audience)lol

  • Coolest delay guitar intro ever. Brilliant, very special band. Brings back a lot of very special memories.

  • I always loved the guitars in this song! This is my fav Church album out of so many that are great ! I saw these guys in Cleveland around the time this came out and they were so good. tight, energetic, trippy. I remember being dissapointed that they didn't play Metropolis for some reason that night.

  • @heliot58 man i was there for this starfish tour too. who knew they would be come Illuminaires.

  • @davidleegoth Yeah they kind of peaked out with radio play with Under the Milky Way from this LP. I think it was the end of the original twin guitar setup with Copes and Wilson-Piper. They are still around in one form or another.

  • la zorra este tema!

  • Never listened closely to the bass line for some reason until now... wow, swiss cheese! - holes as delicious as the solid parts -- class

  • It's a shame that MTV took away an important venue for alternative bands to be heard. The world sighed in dispair when 120 minutes went off the air.

  • Desde la decada del setenta que vengo escuchando rock y metal y como puede ser que me haya perdido esta banda!!!! Excelente!!!! que buena musica, sin tanta opulencia o tecnisismo, eso es tambien talento!!!!

  • why do i think of 'the cure'? was there more singles ? milky way , reptile.only 2 singles?

  • gran tema, me recuerda mis mejores años!!

  • I SWEAR I am not gay.

But wow, his voice is captivating.

  • This still gives me goosebumps

  • ah...The church at their "pinup" best....I notice Peter still has same guitar but I'm sure Marty and Steve are probably kicking themselves about some of their "lost" guitars....and ploogy looking all sweet and innocent driving just ahead of the beat as he was always famous for. This song still stands the test of time!

  • this is what 80's music is about, not this bullshit Rap ass music they play today... great vest with button downs and long hair....... saw them in Newport Beach California

  • Such an awesome tune. Is there ANY song that can equal the first 30 seconds of this magnum opus? Seriously!??

  • @tosetos1 99.9% of all songs fail when put up against that opening riff.

  • @tosetos1 Nope!

  • that riff.. brilliant tune!

  • It is known that some of the best riffs of all time are extremely simple and I always thought this one just stands out as a thing of beauty! Sticks in your head and you can't get it out!

  • i likeed dis'

  • 38 psychopaths

  • I dedicate this song To Mr.Steve Kilbey.

  • God, I could listen to this song, and only this song, for weeks. : /

  • 38 losers prefer insects :-P how can someone dislike this?????????? *sniff*

  • classic great song!

  • Brandon Flowers cover of this song sent me here.

I'm 20, and i've got to say the best music is from the 80's.

  • Comment removed

  • one of the best classic songs ive heard :D

  • semplicemente stupenda..

  • Stone cold classic

  • seduction. *_*

  • This song should be played when you drive your car in suicidal speed.

  • @Sultanis91 or when you do a bad ass daily routine then you make a sweet exit out of your kickin' pad thats what I do bro...

  • @Sultanis91

  • One of the best intros of all time

  • this song is for my xgf... she's like a real REPTILE...

  • Certainly one of the best songs out there for me, EVER!

  • I used to play this on a broom handle (in the days before Guitar Hero). I played it like a pro I tell ya!

  • @bigdsears LMAO that comment made me laugh i tell ya!!!

  • @mrmojorisin291278 Heck yeah, for reals... I could play the piano on the dash of my car too doing about 231 MPH

  • this is a song about someone i'm dealing with presently. fits the situation to a T.

  • I love skating to this track.

  • i bet this concert would be kinda weird/awkward

  • @MrBasementJams Why?

  • is it just me or does the singer sound a lot like bono from u2...by the way nellielab, I thought that "lovin, touchin, squeezin" by journey was a pretty mean break up song

  • MEANEST break-up song next to Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right". Kills me.

  • One of the best intros of all time! Killer band.

  • Love this song so much and the rest of the album :)

  • If you ask me 38 people have no ears.

  • Wow ! to bad they dont make Music like this no more, Thank goodness I was born in the 70s happy me.

  • and i like the video too!!

  • 37 people dont like reptiles

  • @Doomshine I like reptiles.

  • Beautiful lyrics with a powerful surge

  • Heyday was better!

  • The Church enjoying their moment in the sun. Fantastic song heard it for the first time today.

  • so much memories....make me cry

  • Loved this song when I was younger and much more innocent...I have a deeper appreciation for it after being in relationship like this song. Wow! The power of music and the lyrics behind them - It moves me still and has a more profound impact now.

  • @mkmont697 I couldn't agree with you more! I remember hearing this when i was 17 at clubs. Now the song is still beautiful but even has a deeper routed meaning to me.

  • frickinn great song great lyrics apple of my eye damn good stuff

  • Love the riff...reminds me of Blue Oyster Cult

  • @technologic21 No doubt that the song structure and ambience seems to be inspired by BOC particularly "Don't Fear the Reaper", but the song is definitely cool on its own.

  • @ultraroadmap hell yah it is, i never thought of dont fear the reaper whenever i heard this! but now that you mentioned it i may have thought of train kept a rollin' by airo smith, or working man, by rush, no, NO, i never thought of anything else but my x girlfriend donna whenever i heard this song!

  • esta cancion me trae muy buenos recuerdos

  • the song is musical genius at its best,a guitar melody line playing against a bluesy atmospheric break with a bass line that grooves paces and growls and a drum beat that sets a mood with the rythm,it shouldnt work but it FUKIN does its one of the best pieces of song writing ever enjoy

  • esta cancion me transmite algo de otro mundo es muy pero muy buena

  • @TheChibi20 tibio tibio, fijate en el titulo y asocia

  • @TheChibi20 tibio tibio, fijate en el titulo y asocia

  • This song has something so cool...

  • This song has something so cool...

  • reptilian race controls planet earth

  • @spellgrounds no it doesn't. shut up.

  • Never heard it until yesterday. Great song!

  • Haunting Melody.....man I am a flying bass player...and that simple line has haunted me for more than a decade....Like Muzz Skillings says " yeah you can play it, but can you write it?"

  • god damn i love this song.

  • I have been listening to this band for the past 25 years and in no way are they "has beens"...listen to any of their new stuff. It is current, fresh, and undoubtably The CHURCH!

  • @jenabd really? i will!!

  • @jenabd your right there, you just have to look at this new wave of 80s music... this tops it anyday, its not just "80s" music its just great music in any genre

  • And now years later they are a sad bunch of desperate has-beens clinginging to that one moment in life when everything "Under The Milky Way" was in tune to their inflated egos.

  • @mingledust That is fucking dumb, you make music for yourself and your art, I think any self respecting artist would keep going for those reason's.He just said that on an interview I just saw on ABC.He seemed like an artist to me, not a walking ego.

  • @mingledust only thing I see sad is someone who instead of commenting on merits of the music feels the need to vomit thier negativeity up for all to see. if you think anyone cares about your opinion, the inflated ego is yours.

  • @mingledust They have a devout audienece world-wide, albeit smaller now. All bands popularity waxes & wanes. Look at R.E.M. "Losing My Religion" brought on millions of new fans who can't give a rat's ass about them now. Their new album might sell a million if they are lucky. The Church's, or any bands real fans, stick by them through thick & thin. When a record company doesn't promote you, it's hard to get heard.

    They still make great music.

  • @mingledust no, under the milky way was a sign of the times. listen to the words to under the milky way, its all about christal meth. my be they are has-beens now, i dont know, nothing lasts forever, but they were there when it counted. they were there when we needed them, and this song is still as awsome as the day of conception. you probably will change a little too, 26 yrs from now......

  • 30 years ago today since this band was formed! Love you Mr Kilby.....woo hoo

  • einai apla teleiooooo!!!!

  • o for awesome.quite dont fear the reaper feel byt better

  • I love under the milk way and i am thinking how silly I am for not listened to their other music, this is lush

  • So under-rated. I put this song way up there. What a hook.

  • Aborigines. Hopi, Cherokee all knew about what Christians believe to be the damned or fallen angels. It doesn't lose meaning really. It's all how you read into it. None of these are ignorant folklores but just the way they were told so intelligence by nature but to people who lead simple lives could understand. Much of it is literal but much of it were spoken in parables. Translation: We truly are not alone. If you think this is about a woman and sex guess again. read their other song titles

  • Starfish is one of the best albums of the 80s, if not THE best album of the 80s. So underrated, it's not even funny.

  • @BettinaBalser Every single song is great, the running order is perfect. Lyrically genius the top of their game.

  • @BettinaBalser Every single song is great, the running order is perfect. Lyrically genius the top of their game.

  • @BettinaBalser and 37 people didnt like it!!! those people scare me.....

    mtooke@ymail

  • @BettinaBalser hahahahahahahaha

  • @charger619c Knucklehead! :-)

  • @BettinaBalser and i've never heard the whole thing. but i've never forgotten this song. or under the milky way. the church are so cool.

  • @BettinaBalser What about Nail and Zen arcade?

Magician among the spirits is their best album anyway.

  • @BettinaBalser amen to that, it's a must have.

  • @BettinaBalser

    Sadly it's true.

  • @BettinaBalser There is a lot of amazing 80's music and this is a sharp kick in the ass of bad "80's" music collections of insipid pop. The 80s were by no means as insipid as the present.

  • One of the most insane nights of my life was spent outside the ANU (Australian National University) bar listening to these guys. We were that poor that we couldn't afford to get in like all of the other poor students could, but we could hear these great songs thrumming through the walls of the place as we sat at the outside tables. One of our number (not me) was absolutely tripping off his head, and we were just laughing at the place he was in at that moment. And didn't those melodies just soar.

  • @trapper439 What a great venue the ANU refactory was in the late 1970s / early 1980s.

  • my favourite Church song. 80s were awful for clothes and hair.. but for Aussie music there will never be a better decade

  • this song is beautiful

  • there are maybe a handful of bands in the last 30 years which could have created this song. And the only one which jumps out at the moment, is Radiohead. I know there are others, but the list is wonderfully short.

Brilliant song, fookin' brilliant. Possibly the most underrated under-appreciated band ever.

  • Lol i was watching the 2010 ARIA hall of fame when the church got inducted they were brilliant and their speech was hilarious..i reckon steve kilbey should host the ARIAs next year...

  • why the bass line? both guitars makes sound

  • I found this video about 2 weeks after it was uploaded onto YouTube, and I think I must have played it hundreds of times since then. This song is so excellent, I just can't get enough of it. Thank you for the awesome video!

  • What a solid song!

  • Absolutely awesome song from the late 80s...the guitar is sooooo memorable.

  • One of the greatest aussie bands ever.....still love them after all these years.

  • the lead guitarist in this song is so awesome in this song.

  • Comment removed

  • i love the church.

  • i saw these guys last week and they were absolutely amazing!!!!

  • 33 people were never teenagers.

  • Starfish album was GODLY. Wish they had kept it up. Theyre still making music but it's a lil too "new agey" now. "New age"..is that still relevant?

  • Goin' to see these guys tomorrow.

  • I remember driving so fast to this song......... Loved it!~!~~~
