  • I love this advert, it makes me feel so Christmas'y ^^

As for the locations: "The locations cover the four corners of the island. We have Patick’s Hill in Cork, we shot those scenes while the Guinness Cork Jazz festival raged in the background. Claddagh in Galway, Belfast City Hall and of course the Custom’s House and the Brewery in Dublin, amongst others."

So settle down folks, it's not just Dublin, they were going for a "Home of the Black Stuff" as in all of 'Ireland' x)

  • It think you're all mistaking. Its clearly the Reichstag.

  • jesus christ...belfast city hall is there, but it is at 0:37 seconds. I know it is deffinately it, i walk down that road every single day coming home from school. The one at the start is not

  • up there with the budweiser christmas ad (which seems to have finished - shame really). really gets me in the mood, dare i say, it makes me all teary eyed...HAPPY CHRISTMAS

  • I just finished all my essays before Christmas and watched this as a treat: now it's Christmas time :D

  • I wish you numpties would stop arguing about the locations for the add. Who gives a fuck. Just enjoy it ya muppets

  • this is a classic ad, i've been watching this since i was a wee cub, and you cannot tell how happy i am that it still airs every year. thank you for posting this up :)

  • I also love that the folks in Ireland get so excited about seeing it when the season rolls around!!! Fantastic!

  • Nolliag Shona!!!

  • Nothing like Ireland and Christmas. While we're Americans who love to visit, we do burn a little peat during the holidays to capture some that magic and memories of our trips there.

  • Does anyone know who directed this advert?

  • This is honestly the best christmas advert on tv, screw the coca cola one!

  • @NaomiMurphy9 The voice of an alcoholic! haha

  • Doesn't matter to me whether it's filmed in the north, the south, Belfast or Dublin; together we share one of the most beautiful islands in the world

  • @peterweedy I agree! happy christmas! Nollaig Shóna!

  • Best Christmas ad ever... music is amazing, by Kevin Sargent, shame Guinness didn't commission a full length track of this music for download on their site or something, a classic!

  • seriously youtube... ad's that are 30 seconds long..

  • do they show this outside ireland?

  • Best christmas ad -3

  • O'Connells pub, Skryne ("screen"), Co. Meath

  • did anyone else cry? :'(

  • First time I've ever seen this ad was a couple hours ago on RTE! You know you're Irish when while watching this you go "Ah Molly Malone"!

  • Its BACK-SAW it on sky News 10 mins ago-LUV IT

Merry CHRISTMAS from Ireland-oh wait ye Dis is an IRISH AD!

  • Did I just have to watch an AD to watch an AD? Damn it...

  • It's 2.00 am, in Belfast. Just saw the ad for the first time this year! Christmas has now begun! Have a good one everybody!

  • saw it for the 1st time this year tonight.....NOW its xmas!

  • the boet in it is my grand uncles boat :)

  • Haven't seen this on TV yet this year. It's probably my favourite Christmas ad.

  • 'Even in the home of the black stuff, they wish for a white one'............ Wow, they could have worded that one better.

  • Has anyone seen this on tv this yr yet??

  • 9 people arn't irish

  • Check the description . The music was specially made for the advert .

  • Does anybody know the name of the music used here, and the year it was first aired? thanks.

  • This Advert and Im a celebrity get me out o here is when you know that its the season to be jolly.

  • Ok people, the first building with a dome shown at 0:01 is the Custom House in Dublin, while the other domed building with a christmas tree infront at 0:35 is Belfast City Hall -the zoomed out shot is taken from Donegal Road. Deal with it.

  • Christmas advert ..... BELFAST!

  • Every year when I see this ad comes on, its makes my day .. It defo xmas when its on :D

  • I don't know why people think it's city hall when it's clearly the Custom's House :P

  • I LOVE this commercial. It really is an Irish Christmas Card. I was fortunate enough to be there the week between Christmas and New Years in 2009 and saw this on the television.

It makes me homesick for a place that isn't even my home...

  • This was filmed in both Dublin and Belfast.

  • i like the Coca Cola lorry ad & the really old Kelloggs ad... but they aren't a patch on this!

this is so magical and Irish - the music, the first snow flakes, the Irish streets & pub scenes... love it.

  • Groan - Yes, Dublin is the home of Guinness but the advert is filmed throughout the country - including Belfast.

  • @jeromecurtin def belfast city hall

  • @jeromecurtin i live in belfast btw so im RIGHT lol

  • its dublin the home of guiness not belfast

  • @MrTinbuk99 the domed building with the christmas tree is belfast city hall - get over it...

  • I love this ad!!!! : ))

  • 0.36 is Belfast. I was there when they filmed it.

  • Cant wait for this to be on again in a few weeks I tell ya's one of the best adds in the world.

  • Both of them halls are in it I do not not know what the fuss is about.

  • @dkr56 Oh I see the confusion now, I was talking about the custom house in the first 15 seconds. Which does have a road infront of it btw, the north side quays.

  • @jeromecurtin and @mistresspat7 It's still a lovely ad either way but that's actually the custom house, Dublin. Google image it; all the details are the same. The city halls in both Belfast and Dublin have a different amounts of colums, windows etc never mind the height. Also neither of them are on the water : )

  • @aliceharrold nah, it can't be the customs house, sure the customs house is right on the river, there's a street right in front of this one. Also, they don't put a christmas tree in front of the customs house.

  • even in the hoe of the black stuff........................we dream of a white one :') this ad is the best thing thats happend me in 2 years

  • not long till xmas ads will be comin on :) heard one or two on the radio already and a couple hinting on tv. Anyway this just gives me butterflies :)

  • I love this add way to much :/ reminds me of when i was a kid

  • The Coca-Cola ad is too American. With this, you know you're at home :]

  • Just around the corner :)

  • Only 4 months until this is on our tv screens again I love this add.

  • @zznwea Yep it sure is.

  • That's city Hall in Dublin. If youare looking from the quays. I do not know why people think its belfast since the majority of it is clearly dublin. The home of Guinness.LOL Love the ad every christmas espeacilly if its the last you see on Christmas eve.

  • @mistresspat7 Afraid you're wrong there. It's Belfast. Get out your Google Images and search for Belfast City Hall and Dublin City Hall. Look at the height of the dome/rotunda.

  • Comment removed

  • @jeromecurtin

The master shot was the customs house when the shot looking up was some other building, it's in dublin

    :)

  • @jeromecurtin I believe you're both mistaken here. The building is Dublin's Custom House, and the shot is taken from the Butt Bridge.

  • @mdclavey59 The building at the start of the advert is of course the Custom's house - that's not disputed. The debate centres over the building at about the 30second mark. It's the town hall in Belfast as seen from Donegal Street and not Dublin City Hall from Parliament Street as some people think.

  • @mdclavey59 Yep - it's Belfast's beautiful City Hall - I remember them filming it!

  • @mistresspat7 people think its belfast because it IS belfast - city hall from royal ave. i had this debate last year with a friend and i won, dublin city hall doesnt have a dome that tall - get your google street view out love. Im not from belfast but i lived ther for 6 years and i saw that view of city hall almost every day...

  • @jaffagold1 Thank you i resolved this issue ages ago it was so nice to see another contribution but it was really unnesssary.

  • the whisper at the end wow

  • She's really hot too. Want her number ?

  • i lovhis ad aswell.you know its christmas when you see this ad.

  • is that belfast roughly 37 seconds in?

  • only 325 day to go

  • great ad and is still showing around christmas time

  • Best Xmas advert on tv by a mile love it every year gets u excited and gives u goosebumps everytym!

  • best ad!..So amazing Nollaig shona duit!!:)xx

  • Can't believe its a year on since I first watched this video on youtube. That does not feel like a year. Absoluely the best advert for Christmas. 1 million trillion times better than that piece of shite coca cola ad. As I said last year- "nollaig shona duit". Christmas eve tomorrow.. :)

  • This Music gives me Shivers !

  • This ad is just magic!

  • My family and I spent the week between Christmas and New Years last year there in Ireland. I was fortunate enough to see this commercial while we were there. It's just beautiful. Thank you for posting it so I could see it again this Christmas even though I'm not there... Wish I was! Nollaig Shona Dhaoibh!

  • Love this ad, my favourite christmas advert. :-)

  • Anybody know all of the locations by any chance? The two people throwing snowballs is St. Patricks Hill in Cork and J. O'Connell pub is in Skyrne in Meath I know anyway...

  • @TomRocheCork 0:36 is Belfast City Hall

  • @TomRocheCork Yeah St. Patricks hill. I was there when they filmed it. Brought in massive snow machines and closed down the street. Was during the Jazz festival about 2004/2005. Not many other recognisable places, could be anywhere some of them. Not sure about the one with the currach in the harbour, I'm guessing West somewhere. Obviously, Custom House Dublin, Belfast City Hall. Pub is J. O'Connell, Skyrne Co. Meath, Molly Malone Statue, College Green/Grafton Street and of course St. James Gate.

  • Best Christmas ad on TV but I haven't seen it this year yet :(. I had to come watch it on youtube.

  • Never realised that was Belfast city hall. I hardly recognise it without all the drunk people drinking lambrini, rude middle class gits pushing past everyone on their way to work, 'dude who plays trumpet-violin thing and plays same thing over and over', that fella who dresses up as a Nazi (and SS hat guy) and the big metal fences they have everywhere at the minute for some crap they're doing to the footpaths. Fuck them all though (: It's xmas and time to be happy. Happy xmas from Belfawssst (:

  • This is one of my all-time favourite ads. It's just, amazing <3

  • proud to be irish, reminds me of christmas eve,the excitement the joy and the people, but now i just realised its next week,Christmas Day is on saturday week, seriously how did time fly so quick,I Would like to take this time to wish everyone a very safe and joyful christmas. Thanks for the post-Nollaig Shona Duit

  • Nice.

  • The fox walking in the snow is the most beautiful Christmas scene.

  • does anyone remember the year at 12 o clock on christmas that ad came on and it started snowing so it was snowy for christmas but was all melted the next day. It was weird

  • Beautiful, iv literaly shed tears at the end of this ad. Fantastic!

  • The music was never released as a piece.

  • @jeromecurtin And thats a Bummer Bro !

  • Does anybody know if i can get the music on its own, i love it!!!

  • feck the coca cola ad, this is how you know its Christmas

  • @TheIrishcondor man you took the words right out of my mouth, this is the best christmas ad of all time

  • The music was specially composed by ace composer Kevin Sargent.

  • does anybody know what the music in the ad is called

  • Just me is is that Beal Feriste at 0:36??

  • @elrossoelrosso You might be right although many of the buildings in Dublin take on that similar shape i.e. City Hall on Dame Street and the Government buildings on Merrion Street so it may be in Dublin. Although the street doesn't look familiar to me so it could very well be in Belfast

  • @elrossoelrosso I've always thought the same. Definately Belfast city hall.

  • @elrossoelrosso Yes its Belfast city hall and Donegall square

  • @Dunboyne100 Wuss .. if a boyy. Grand if ur a girl!!

  • beautiful ad i always cry wen diz cums on!!

  • I can't wait to come home for christmas!

  • lost that argument so!!!

  • I remember Christmas Eve going on 12.00 and this ad played

It means christmas to me now

  • will someone out there please settle an argument for me, the guy who say's'don't forget to turn the lights off ' is that or is it not 'Joe o' shea' who used to present the afternoon show on RTE???

  • @mariaJ3105 Not Joe O'Shea, I can say that as a Corkman. Joe's voice is much deeper, unlike this guy's chirpy Cork accent!

  • Only the Irish can turn Christmas into St.Patricks Day.

  • amazing ad. proud to be irish

  • @villaman24 Even though Guinness is no longer Irish owned...

  • amazing ad. proud to be irish

  • This is my favourite Christmas ad along with coca cola's (holidays are coming)

  • This is an ad that will stick with u until ur old and grey! Sums up xmas!!!!

  • i agree completely! the coke add is amazing but this one you can relate to because your irish/ northern-irish (whatever lol). its really christmassy and the music is perfect for it!

  • Coming from Belfast myself, every christmas when i see this i get that sensation through me , and this add also gives me pleasure to call myself northern irish - irish what ever way you wanna say it but as long as i live this add with always send shivers through me and the music certainly adds to that..
