I rented an old VAX terminal that smelled like cigarettes from my college comp sci dept to use Telnet, Gopher, etc. Later bought a 486 laptop, 28.8 modem, and installed MS Kermit immediately. It was a whole new world for us. Yeah, we broke up a few years later, and I became a web developer, go fig.. :\

  • but the world was free and awesome

  • FOsnivel: that's what i said 20 years ago too. Old days must be like crap: no home computers, no walkmans, no color television :-). Who knows what the future will bring? I for one very much enjoyed the old Apple II computer, thought it was the most fancy thing ever (and it was, in those days), just like iPod now ;-).

  • I liked older days, before technology took over our lives. It forced you to be more active in real life. Today its all too easy to be a hermit.

  • Wow, what an awesome vid. I am gonna make this one of my favorite :3

  • Internet Is still High Tech.

This is probably why Yahoo is not the Leader in his field.

  • I LOVE THIS!

  • Remeber that dial up days!!! wow !!!! jajajaja

  • Wow, that's really cool. That must of took a hell of a long time to make.

    Nice job!

  • ah. the memories...

  • nice:)

  • amazing vid.

  • I loved that, it certainly takes me back. Especially when all those pop-ups first started.

Yahoo's implication that they have been that important is far fetched, though.

  • Keep in mind that the video is done for Yahoo! and by Yahoo! xD

  • look cool, nice flasback!

  • nice vid

  • I miss those green, digital, matrix-like screens. They looked and sounded all Star Trekky. They kind of made me feel like I was running a ship in space or something when the lights were out, and I was up into the wee hours of the morning. I don't know, it just seems like today, the air of mystery has been sucked out of computers. They're nothing more than a larger window with which to view the world now, and a billboard strategically placed in our living rooms.

  • yeah, i forgotten the dial up tone for the first internet connection. man wow, we didn't get the chance and look back all the things that went by so fast and it is like an blink of an eye. this vid really showing us the progress we made and now we are seeing what it will become for our children and grand children to come. when i'm 80 i'll smile and cry that i was once like them soaking the power of technology that is shaping their world as it does to me to this today

  • Haha, I love this.

  • what will be next??

  • Very nice video! Seeing all these old machines makes you to realize how you too grew old for these 25 years. :)

    Good luck Yahoo!

  • wow cool video quite sweet..show it to those who are geeks or teens who are internet addicted and tell them how a computer was at that age :P

  • Nice video :)

  • Wow! , fantastic, I luved it!

I remember that stupid noisy modem, its tones sounded catchy sometimes ! LOL

  • WoW! , fantastic, I luved it!

  • Wow! I just realized at the very beginning of the video is, I believe, a Commodore 64! I had several of those!

  • a fun and cool video !!!

  • Great video. It's really kinda neat to have had a front row seat to the change the world has experienced thanks to the pc. When I was a kid, online meant the two cans -with the string tied between them. Thanks for posting this.....

  • This is a video response to Talking Cat Talking Dog?

  • Cause they are both communicating? : )

  • Maybe because it's another video by codadog111, and he wants his other videos to get noticed too?

  • Talk about a trip down memory lane!

and ... yes ... I remember those beautiful days :D

  • Guess what we put a man on the moon with a 16k on board computer. We haven't been back since.

  • What does that tell you?

  • That's because humanity is plagued with war and issues we find hard to resolve that interfere with our advancement... or it is just that the cold war space race stimulus was the fuel needed for this mission to succeed

  • :D brings back great memories

  • ceeeeeeee my channel

  • My first encounter with the internet was in 1992, a 2400 baud dial-up modem, using a 200 page print out to look for ftp or telnet sites to download shareware or Cindy Crawford photos, I thought it was awesome! I built my first website in 1997 at Geocities which was purchased by Yahoo! I think I opened my mail Yahoo! account at the end of the 90s and still have it!

  • wow...can't believe it's been a while since the first time i used Yahoo !!

  • Kudos to Yahoo!

  • Great video and music, nice job to whoever at Yahoo made this.

  • Nice....... but you I have to sign through a google account to comment interesting lol

  • ashum4,

Your comment made me wonder. Why do you have to sign through a google account? I don't understand. I just log on to YouTube and sign on with my account HootyHaHa, and my password. And I can post to videos.

But I do have to sign on through google when I want to post to the Help Groups... is that what you meant?

  • Wow, I have been useing yahoo for over 15 years now, I didnt know they were older than that!

  • I think they are talking about 25 years of online communication. Yahoo isn't that old. Check out the beginning of the video, it doesn't show Yahoo! until later on at 0:50; I don't know what year that was though. :-)

  • 1995

  • 1994!!!

  • Sweet. Great video. I'm a yahoo user and this is very well done! shows ya how far we've come from just starting internet. When internet first came out we had it in a museum and it was life sized. they have surfboards which you stood on and they let you use the brand new internet. They called it surfing the web! now you have it on phones! :) GO TECHNOLOGY!

  • I'm a proud Yahoo user! :) Happy 25th!!!

  • This is a great video, yahoo was my first email since i was 7, Thank-You Yahoo!

  • Yahoo Mail ... my first e-mail too ... back to 1997. Great video and what is the name of the song ... thanks

  • the name of the song is "those days" by Shitake Monkey

  • Thanks ...

  • I don't think any of you had internet available for 25 years unless you were Goverment or a University. Ha Maybe 18-20 at the very most. Try again you paid by the minute in 1991.

  • BBS's were around since the 70's.

  • yahoo is announcing this link in their page

    lol

    they like the video

wondering if it was embaressing for them to use this Youtube Google link

  • Probably no more embarrassing than it is for YouTube to have this video that basically shows Yahoo as the original innovator on the web.

  • I'm not one sided but youtube is open to everyone, I can post here hundred of hours about how yahoo video is better than youtube...

but yahoo using the youtube link.... they should use a yahoo video link :)

    maybe they have sport spirit

  • I think the idea is you advertise where you can attract more customers- not preach to the people already using it...

  • Great job, IMO it shows the evolution of online communicating perfectly.

  • How the HELL did you make this??????

  • INTERNET IMPROVED,

    the MUSIC-not so much

  • Thanks Yahoo! for doing great job for years!

  • the old "yahoo" yodel should have been added at the end when it said 25 years.

  • wow, well done

  • WOW its a grate Video really im very Happy that im the Part of Yahoo Mail or the member of Yahoo Community.Yahoo is providing Excellance & Quality for last 25 Yrs Online Communication.May GOD gives YAHOO more success & provide excellent qulity 2 its user.

  • Is there any significance to the name "Kremlar"?

  • the dreaded dial tones, bad memories.

  • great video. it really reminds us on how God blessed this world with ONLINE COMMUNICATION! wow..congratulations!

  • wah.. apik tenan ki.. heyooooo...

  • that's sooooooo cool!

  • Yup! that shows the evolution. From bulky monochrome computer screen to high resolution LCD color computer screen. From DOS to Windows 3.0, Windows 95, 97, 98, 2000, ME, XP, Vista what next ..?

Sorry, I am a PC user. Don't know much about MAC or Apple application.

It's yesterday once more? It sure does bring ol memories ...

    Thanks for the video.

  • Next is Windows 7, I am using the beta right now =) so much better than vista!

  • I know its crazy how much better it really is!

  • The dial tones are still not too far back for me. Until last year, my younger brother (who is 21 years old), was using dial-up connection still.
