OMG. I love this. I think most people would freak out if they knew I was learning computer programming way back when and was part of the first 200,000 people using AOL 2.0 ! Hahahahaa. I remember using Genie, CompuServe, AOL, other bulletin boards. My, my my. Technology. Love it.
ok, where is Q-Link on the C64, Yahoo's first chat system called iChat, or Windows 3.1 (3.11 for workgroups), or the handful of DOS-based chat proggies (not to mention DOS itself)???? Damn, am I too old, or just too experienced??? lmao
this makes me wish that i could use yahoo like this but all my friends use myspace. its so annoying when yahoo has so much more to offer than myspace and facebook combined
the modem dialing sound reminded me i still have a working 300bps external modem! my first modem! I have owned at least a dozen of them! they were hot property back then! :)
This is awesome.First PC is a "Dell OptiPlex Gxa" flatbed,Intel P2 266 Mhz(overclocked)processor,6GB HDD,64MB RAM.Currently have it running XP Pro.heh.
I remember being sad after my high school graduation. My 15yo girlfriend told me we can write 'letters' to each other via electronic mail! woohoo! I rented an old VAX terminal that smelled like cigarettes from my college comp sci dept to use Telnet, Gopher, etc. Later bought a 486 laptop, 28.8 modem, and installed MS Kermit immediately. It was a whole new world for us. Yeah, we broke up a few years later, and I became a web developer, go fig.. :\

wow this video ring many memories I started using computers and internet when i was 6 in 98!!!!! old yhoo page dial up modem busy line slow connection!!!!! it's great and I made my first webisute on geocities ( another yahoo service)
FOsnivel: that's what i said 20 years ago too. Old days must be like crap: no home computers, no walkmans, no color television :-). Who knows what the future will bring? I for one very much enjoyed the old Apple II computer, thought it was the most fancy thing ever (and it was, in those days), just like iPod now ;-).
OMG THAT DIALLLL !!! I remember waking up at 3am because the net was very ocupied .. (latinoamerica) .. it is like a blink .. now I dont know what else to spect ..
I miss those green, digital, matrix-like screens. They looked and sounded all Star Trekky. They kind of made me feel like I was running a ship in space or something when the lights were out, and I was up into the wee hours of the morning. I don't know, it just seems like today, the air of mystery has been sucked out of computers. They're nothing more than a larger window with which to view the world now, and a billboard strategically placed in our living rooms.
yeah, i forgotten the dial up tone for the first internet connection. man wow, we didn't get the chance and look back all the things that went by so fast and it is like an blink of an eye. this vid really showing us the progress we made and now we are seeing what it will become for our children and grand children to come. when i'm 80 i'll smile and cry that i was once like them soaking the power of technology that is shaping their world as it does to me to this today
Great video. It's really kinda neat to have had a front row seat to the change the world has experienced thanks to the pc. When I was a kid, online meant the two cans -with the string tied between them. Thanks for posting this.....
That's because humanity is plagued with war and issues we find hard to resolve that interfere with our advancement... or it is just that the cold war space race stimulus was the fuel needed for this mission to succeed
My first encounter with the internet was in 1992, a 2400 baud dial-up modem, using a 200 page print out to look for ftp or telnet sites to download shareware or Cindy Crawford photos, I thought it was awesome! I built my first website in 1997 at Geocities which was purchased by Yahoo! I think I opened my mail Yahoo! account at the end of the 90s and still have it!
Your comment made me wonder. Why do you have to sign through a google account? I don't understand. I just log on to YouTube and sign on with my account HootyHaHa, and my password. And I can post to videos.
But I do have to sign on through google when I want to post to the Help Groups... is that what you meant?
