the pto hp is actually 16 at rated rpm but the 42 has twice as many knives as the 32 i have a bx 24 and love to see them doing "big" jobs i am waiting to finance this same chipper to make mulch for four clients that grow blueberrys (hemlock) and one that smokes meats(apple)
A friend of mine has one of these...says it plugs up when you put anything new or green into it....is there a speed or setting better for green stuff? thanks
Gotta say, for the price of these pto mounted chippers, I'd probably stick to renting, as those are so much more capable and easier to feed quickly. If they were cheaper it'd be different.
It is rated for 4" . But the opening is 4" by 10" wide. This allows for those "crotched" branches. I would not chip 4" oak only because to me that is firewood. I am sure it would chip it though. The more HP you have the better. For the most part it self feeds. The stringy stuff like willow may require a little help feeding. Anything solid feeds fine.
What is the largest size oak/hardwood have you put through this? How well does it handle branches with limbs on them, does it still feed in automatically?
I'm going to be getting a Kubota BX or B series soon. I was wondering (zwigledo) will it grind up Maple branches that have recently fallen? Because alot of these branches look old and weak. (Easy to grind up) Does it have the power to grind up a recently fallen sturdy branch?
Well the only problem is that you see the way you almost stalled your tractor at 1:13? In order to run the chipper at its full potential you need more HP. My 30 HP Kabota would not have slowed down on logs of that size. But I have bound it up on 4+ inch Oak. Not that it wont work but to get the full power out of this chipper you need 45 HP.
I only have about 1 hp more than you do. As long as your machine can lift it and will fit a catagory I impliment it should work fine. I have only stalled it one time it really does work well and I think you would be happier with the larger capacity over the bx 32.

@brucec43 I hear ya Bruce. I've got a stump removal business so I wanted to keep one on hand.Otherwise I probably would not have invested in one.

You could build a gasifier and use this chips as these are the best option to run it, and then sell eletricity you made using the gases in a genny :)

What horse power is the BX 24? I've been thinking about getting chipper for my B1750 and I'm not sure it would work.

@Canopus68 23HP

I have the same tractor and the same chipper! I run the tractor at 3250 RPM for the rated 540 RPM on the PTO. What do you run your tractor at?
I like your chipper a bit better cuz it's orange. My is used and it's green. (I feel so dirty...)

full throttle is right to get the 540 out of it.
